We all carried letters like this one through our entire tours. The Commanders knew where to find them and only they could see them and send them to the families. I still have mine and after 10 years I often wonder why I made it home and they didn’t.

I have friends I've known since childhood and their cousins co-wrote this song. As a veteran from a long line of veterans, this song is special.

Amen... I come from a long line of military. I lost a cousin who was like my brother and I couldn't come home from overseas. It broke my heart.

I'm sure that you and I weren't the only ones crying. I lost my dad fifteen years ago....still hurts like hell. This past Sunday I lost my only remaining elder in the family...my dad's brother. We lost my mom's brother a couple of months ago. In August I'll fly out for his burial at Arlington National Cemetery. He was a Marine Corp combat vet...Korea and Vietnam and retired after 20 years with the USMC. We can't even get one buried before losing another family member. I wish I could help with the loss of your dad. Because of my dad's long illness it took me a few years to remember a happy memory but they started coming back to me...thankfully. Each loss we have takes a piece of our heart with them. I'm glad that your heart is big enough to still care for others.

I think you should take comfort in the fact that you made this community. Your vulnerability and kindness help to spread it all over the world to your viewers. I love that you aren’t afraid to cry with us. I couldn’t think of better hands for the sick and disabled to be in than yours. Your father would be so proud of the man you are, always know that.

I had to write a letter like this to my family in case I didn't make it home. It was the hardest letter I have ever had to write to my wife and kids. Thanks the Lord they never had to read it.

Tim actually grew up in a small town called Start, Louisiana. I’m from the same area. I was at the filming of his video for the song “Down on the Farm”. I was a student at ULM at that time.

You are such a fine young man. My son is older than you are now. I lost my father while I was in the Army at 30. I know how much you speak of your father you were very close. He must be so proud and remember it's only sad because it was good. You are making your father proud every day I am sure.

As a vet myself and from a family of vets, I thank you. Bless you for your loss. I've had plenty myself. One thing that I've learned through my long years is that life is always changing and not always for the good unfortunately. We just keep living and trying our best to continue to love.

The scariest thing I've done in my life was having to write a Will at 19 because I didn't know where I'd go. God bless the troops and the families who had to live with the ultimate sacrifice. ❤❤

I wanted to be a Marine with every fiber of my being. I was robbed of that privilege by a disability. When I was in high school, I told a recruiter that I knew I couldn't run, jump, etc. well and that I knew what would happen to me over there, but I absolutely did not care. My fate did not matter to me one bit. I just wanted to serve. I will mourn that dream until the day I die. A friend gave me a tie clip from his uniform and told me I would have been a good Marine. I will carry that gift with me every day of my life. To those that I could not call my brothers and sisters, thank you from the very depth of my soul.

@OkayRickk im a new subscriber and when you mentioned your dad passing 6 weeks ago it struck a chord with me I lost my dad in 2014 from a massive stroke he wasn't just my dad but he was my real life hero having served as a door gunner in Vietnam ( you can google it if you don't fully understand how close to dying they are every time they go on a helicopter flight ) he was in 5 different helicopters and all 5 of them got shot down he walked away from every single one with just a small fragment from a bullet as shrapnel
