Great reaction. IDZ was one of the earliest songs they ever recorded - they were playing it live in 2011 when Su was 13, Yui and Moa were only 11 or 12. I think it may have even been used in a campaign against bullying in Japanese schools. There is another performance (there are loads, but one in particular) from their very first major event outside of Japan where they found themselves on the main stage at a metal festival in the UK in front of 50-60,000 UK metalheads who didn't have a clue who or what they were. They were 16 and just turned 15 at the time. They had 25-30 minutes to win the crowd over. IDZ was the last of the 5 songs they played. In that 25 minutes they had the biggest mosh pits of the weekend and their merch outsold all the other bands (big names like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer and more). Correct. They were thrown on the main stage last minute. Most the crowd went there -- at first -- to mock them ( some even threatened to throw shit at them because they said they weren't metal), after their last song you can hear the crowd yelling "More, more... " And the rest is history. ❤❤❤❤❤

Most of their songs have a direct, positive message. That's why I wish more people would react to live performances that have the English subtitles. As a longtime metalhead, the thing that sets Babymetal apart from almost any other band is that Babymetal is all about positivity and optimism. Metal as a genre tends to lend itself to a lot of negative emotions and ideas (and there is absolutely a place for that), but Babymetal is unfailingly hopeful and joyous, and in a world with so much negativity, that tireless optimism is needed.

To the average American fan of metal or hardcore, Baby Metal is a novelty act. But you have to give props to that backup band. Their rhythm section and dual lead guitarists are top shelf.

@@wildething7923 I don't think they're a novelty act, any more or less than any other Japanese pop band. Which is why I prefaced my statement that to 'the average American metal or hardcore fan' they would be a novelty act. As for novelty acts, Tenacious D was founded in 1994 and toured through 2022. The Eraserheads, a novelty band from the Philippines, have been playing since 1989 and are still going. Regardless, their genre is regarded as 'kawaii metal' which even among the Japanese, is considered to be a novelty. I personally place them just above the novelty label by virtue of their backing band, which were gifted shredders and writers.

Bands like Dragonforce, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Guns' N'Roses, Metallica, Rob Zombie, Rob Halford, Corey Taylor, Bring Me the Horizon, and Joakim from Sabaton think better of them than you do. Who's opinion should I value most? Yours, or their's? I already have my own opinion, and It's not the same as you.

It's beyond different. I only listen to rap but Bantering that shit. Idk how it works but it does. Here in the US we had kid bop. In Japan they got Babymetal. Everything about them is kids stuff but somehow it works. The shit is Metal. I live in Ohio. They b rocking out here. Too many White's but I have no problem with them as long as they don't bother me.
