I recall when I first watched this video, one of the comments really stood out: "This performance will be, forever, the most beautiful and courageous jump without a parachute by three of the loveliest girls possible." When you consider their age, their bravery in fronting a 50K crowd, some of whom were intent, initially, on ridiculing them, then gradually winning them over, is quite breathtaking. Definitely one for the annals of rock music history.

they sold more merch than any other band there. That was the last song of the set. Yui's flag was not cooperating when they came out and Moa missed a start, showing how nervous they were, but Su guided them through. By the end, Yui's dress was falling apart but they kept their composure and finished the show. They are the Wild Stallions

There were two lines at the merch tents, one for BABYMETAL, and one for everybody else. Guess which one was longer? One month later they were on the cover of Metal Hammer, the youngest ever, and AFAIK the first band from Japan. They didn't just put their feet in the door, they kicked it to shreds.

Exactly that was the point. Originally they were booked for a small stage (about 4000 guests) but the Video of "Give me Chocolate " went viral on KZbin. So they were warned that they were changed for the main stage. They couldn't See if there were any people. Most of the people were waiting for Metalica and so on and suddenly these small girls appeared...

Great reaction, thanks! "Ijime, Dame Zettai" or "IDZ" is definitely one of my top favorites. Really love the final part with that key change. It's absolutely perfect. The song also has an important message, being an anti-bullying song. The tittle roughly translates as: "Absolutely no more bullying" (or "no more bullying forever"). This performance is a very important piece in BABYMETAL's history. This was their first performance in the UK (actually their first "big" stage outside Japan) and that was a massive festival with 50.000+ metalheads most of which never heard about BABYMETAL before. They were very afraid before they got on stage because that particular type of crowd can be very disgusting if the band doesn't match their expectations. Also the organizers moved them to the main stage several weeks before due to the online buzz. They actually were worried that no one would show up. The result? Leaving the stage while the crowd were chanting "we want more!". They also sold more merch than any other band that weekend (including Iron Maiden, Metallica, Anthrax, Dream Theater, Slayer...). This is what I call an epic win. 😁 🤘🦊

Great reaction, great song, great occasion.🤘🦊🤘You have all the history, the significance and the repercussions of this performance already. They played 2 small gigs in the lead up to Sonisphere, one in Paris one in Cologne (Yui and Moa celebrated their 15th birthdays at those) and they did their first London show a couple of days later. At Sonisphere Su is reported as saying that when they walked on stage there was a sea of very puzzled looking faces and she thought to herself "This will be fun. Let's knock it out of the park!" This was the last song of the 5 they played, they only had about 30 minutes, not much time to set up (their sound check was done immediately before they went on stage and ate into the time they were being allowed, so the set was just 25 minutes) ... and you could hear what the crowd were shouting, calling for one more song and we want more as they walked off stage at the end. This was where they finally felt the metal community had accepted them and their music, that their music could break all sorts of boundaries and things like language barriers and it gave them a huge boost of confidence to continue what they had started.

Great reaction as always, so fun watching along with you both. This is one of three times I've seen Su-Metal break a little from emotion where at the very end when she waves and her voice cracks counting down 3,2,1. Another is when she shouts "Bring them on" in Japanese near the end of "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan", and the other is when the entire 55k audience neckbraces light up during "The One" during the Tokyo Dome 2016 concert, at about 7:20 her jaw drops in awe when she sees the crowd lit up. There is just such an air of joy around these performances, always but especially these.

the 5 songs Babymetal did changed metal forever. these girls were so strong to go in front of a know hostile crowd if they didn't like them, and perform at 120%. the second song they did Gimmie Chocolate and to show how much confidence Su has in that song she got this foreign crowd to sing along with her. do you know how much confidence a person has to have to stand in front of 50,000 unknown people and get them sing with you in a foreign language? Su did it at 16 years old. also rarely after this Yui and Moa are actually singing their part not a backing track like other times. their merch outsold every other band there even the big names. they had been outside Japan once before but this was the first big music festival they had done. this song i think was like their 4th or fifth song to release. the government actually used this song also in a bullying campaign. love the message of this song in that bullying is not jsut about the bully or the victim but also the people that watch and do nothing about it but they do as much hurt as the actual bully. i love Babymetal because of songs like this. their messages is always positive and uplifting. you can not listen to a Babymetal song and not come away feeling good and uplifted.

Great reaction as always! This was the last song of a short 5 song set that lasted about 30 minutes. The girls were afraid that nobody would come to see them (they got bumped from a small side stage to the main stage on short notice) and couldn't see the crowd from behind the stage, so they were nervous af. To their surprise, they saw an ocean of about 50.000 to 55.000 people waiting for them at the main stage. Su said in an interview later on that this was her best moment of 2014. They were the talk of the festival and outsold any other band's merch. Ever since they consider the UK as their second home

In this classic IDZ performance you get a bit of everything: Kami Band shredding, Su power vocals, Su's hyper extended elbow, Moa and Yui backing vocals, dancing, and a Yui tutu malfunction. The title takes an iconic Japanese anti-drugs slogan "Mayaku, Dame, Zettai" (Absolutely no drugs) and uses it against bullying substituting Ijime (bullying or abuse) for Mayaku (drugs). In the two years before this concert BM had worked hard to transform themselves from an idol group, just singing and dancing to backing tracks, into a metal band capable of performing live in concert. The Kami Band had been formed and integrated into the performances and they had played several Japanese festivals and done the Legend concerts in preparation for touring. After that BM were getting good buzz and they were invited to perform at Sonisphere, a big UK metal festival at Knebworth, as part of their first European tour. They were nervous because the UK crowd was notoriously tough and weren't expecting such a large crowd, but by the end of their 30 min set they had won them over completely. IDZ was their finale. It's the moment that critics and the international audience realized that BM were a legitimate headlining band and not just a gimmick. It was also a complete vindication of Koba's vision and everyone's hard work and I think you can see that in Su's smile at the end.

More than just IDZ, their entire set really is the miracle. They played five songs that day, and in each one you can hear the crowd getting more and more into it. By this point, the finale, the whole front area had already been converted, but it was this song, Ijime Dame Zettai that got everyone, even the farther out ones in the back, to raise their hands and shout we want more. BM has ever since been a mainstay headliner in the UK, they even played Wembley.

This is almost like a movie scene, where the very under-underdog (underfox?) has one last chance to conquer the challenge, and perseveres until they come out on top. They'd already played the whole set until this moment, and had been winning hearts all the way, but this was their last chance to put a full stop on their victory. And by the Fox God they absolutely slayed. You can see Su at the end surveying her newly conquered domain with confidence. What a show!

It really is amazing to watch this. The sheer serendipity of the moment is also amazing, because if Lady Ga Ga hadn't taken them on tour with her as her opening act, who knows when they would have gotten to the West. And to do it in Great Britain, which has the toughest music fans on the planet, was even more wild and crazy. I don't know if it's still on YT, but there is a video of their entire performance at Sonisphere in one video and it's amazing to watch. And their performance here eventually led to their invitation to the 2016 Download Festival, where once again they wowed the crowd and did their finest live performance of Karate, in the rain, in front of almost 70,000 screaming fans who sang along with BM in the chorus. Lady Ga Ga deserves a lot of kudos for taking that risky step for the ladies. And it turned out to be the best step that could possibly happen.

They were the first band on stage that day. When they were just off stage and couldn't see the crowd and thought no-one was there. The 3000 in the front were fans including a journalist from Japan. Crowd size was 50K or so was waiting. It took 30 minutes to conquer the crowd and the English metal world. Interviews in England are fun, the interviewers really do not how interview 3 Japanese teenagers and some were a little afraid of them. From this they began the learn English and they consider England to be their second home. Go back and watch Su's eye's at the start. She knows the crowd belongs to them. In the full 30 minute performance, you can see/hear the crowd being pulled in. Next - "Karate" at the Download festival, in the pouring rain. Everyone stayed and were in Su's control.

Awesome reaction fellas! Glad you got to this one! This was definitely a metal festival, Iron Maiden was headliner I believe. Babymetal played 5 songs: BABYMETAL DEATH, Gimme Chocolate, Catch Me If You Can (w/ Kami Intro), Megitsune, and IDZ for the closer. They were originally slated for a much smaller side stage, but fans and online buzz due to Gimme Chocolate video going viral put them on the main stage. Awesome moment for Babymetal history! 🤘🦊. One more suggestion to add: Babymetal covers Judas Priest, Painkiller & Breaking the Law, with Chad Smith (RHCP) cameo on drums, and a wholesome surprise for Su! This Sonisphere performance by Babymetal is one of the main reason why Japanese rock/metal scene blew out the hole. But there is this part when Moa and Yui goes down on their knees in praying position Su sings these lines that could have been mine those years: Namida mise-zu ni, nakidashi-soona yoru wa kokoro no oku no heya ni hitori. Kizutsuketa no wa hoka no dareka dake ja naku kizuka-nai furi shiteta nakama. I didn't show my tears, and in the night I was about to cry, in a room deep inside my heart, I stayed alone. This was the last song of the set. They played 5 songs, they had planned 6 but they cut it short. Babymetal were told they had 30 minutes on the stage, that's it. They were only given an abbreviated sound check. In the run up to the show, many fans said they were going to bottle the band - throwing water bottles full of urine at them. A quaint custom in the area for bands that are gimmicky. All in all, there was a lot of nervousness going into the show. But the girls crushed it. Su-metal says that she could see the acceptance radiating outward from the stage like a wave, as people started to move to the music and smile. It was the moment she realized what Babymetal was doing would work. The moment they became stars, caught on video. As a side note, if you notice Yui's skirt was coming apart during the song which didn't phase them, and on the first song Moa's in ears didn't work so Yui had to cue her when the song would start. So much you could write about this performance. Their Debut on the world stage, the first trip with musicians, you could go on.

👍 👍 Hello gentlemen. First off great reaction, this performance was the last of a 5 song set at Sonisphere. This performance marked the first time that they had performed outside of Asia. They were invited to Sonisphere mainly because the Gimme Chocolate MV went ballistic (hate the cliche term viral 😉). Few if any of this massive crowd knew anything about Babymetal and supposedly many who did were there to deride them. UK crowds are notorious for showing their displeasure at bands they did not approve of (beer bottles thrown onstage and cursing). The girls were rightly nervous (maybe terrified as there is a great picture of them looking nervously at the crowd before walking onstage). Kudos to these brave young ladies who were only in their early teens. At first the crowd was baffled but after a couple of songs they were into it and most were enjoying it (as you saw). This was the turning point for Babymetal and they were legitimized onstage and in the media. The test is history. Until next time.

"This performance marked the first time that they had performed outside of Asia." This performance was on July 5th, 2014. BABYMETAL held concerts in Paris on July 1st and in Cologne, Germany on July 3rd. I think you might be indeed interested in watching the entire set. This was right after BABYMETAL hit the big Gimme Chocolate buzz on KZbin in 2014. BABYMETAL by that point was already booked to be at Sonisphere, but prior to the buzz, they had been set to play in one of the smaller side stages. Due to the big buzz online, they were then moved to the Mainstage where huge metal names were set to play alongside them. They were put rather early on in the day. Still, a lot of hate and toxicity ensued online. People did NOT like that and thought Sonisphere were selling out to a buzz gimmick that was set to crumble as the hype would fade around BABYMETAL. Commenters said they would throw bottles of urine at them. It was really bad. Still, the show was set to happen. And despite all this negativity, the then 16 year old Su and 14 year old Yui & Moa were brave enough to get up on stage. But they were reportedly mortified, scared to death of the response they would get. A massive curious crowd gathered to see what BABYMETAL was, what all the fuzz around them was about. At first, they did not really know what to expect. A few converted fans were there, but a vast amount of the crowd was just curious folk waiting to see what BABYMETAL was really about. The first soundchecks got the crowd really curious. The musicians were already showing signs that they were real killers. When you watch the entirety of this set, you can clearly see an evolution on how the crowd reacts. It's timid at first. This is the last song, and by that time, you can see that the crowd was really loving it and people were chanting "we want more" as the girls were leaving the stage. You can watch the girls and the Kami band's facial expressions. Relief, happiness. To this day, they still talk about this performance as a key moment in their History. Legitimized on the big stage. I still feel emotional thinking about the bravery and courage it took, at such tender ages. I'm also forever grateful for the crowd and the UK metal fans for acting so nice and encouraging. Those girls are human beings. They're just doing what they love. Their intention was never to insult metal, and they were so young and scared. They deserve all the praise in the world for going through with this. Forever grateful for the kind metalheads, who in their vast majority are more mellow in their hearts than most people think. Many of them saw that these were just teenage girls, and why would anyone want to gatekeep metal for anyone? Metal is all about openmindedness, tolerance, and being welcoming. I sincerely hope you get to see the whole set some day. Perhaps in a livestream format? I'd be down for that. And while we're at it, why not a bunch of BABYMETAL concerts down the road? Hell yeah!!

Sonisphere was one of the most import performances of their career. They were originally meant to perform on a smaller side stage, but due to their sudden burst of popularity from Gimme Chocolate going viral they were moved to the main stage in front of 50,000 people, many of whom had no idea who they were. UK festival crowds are notorious hard to please, and there was some concern about how they would react, but Babymetal have said in subsequent interviews that they weren't worried, they just wanted to go out and show what they could do. Even from such a young age, they had a ton of confidence.

Nice reaction. A favorite performance by many of The One. Su was very happy at the end of that show. You can tell by how big her smile is. Ever since I saw this, I noticed that is a good way to tell how Su thinks the show went. She likes to give a nice send off. But when the show went extremely well. Su smiles is big and those arms shack with such enthusiasm. Last song of their set for sure. You can always tell because in those days they ended every show with See You as they walked off stage. Su and Moa say they clearly remember this day. A historical moment for them. And in some ways a historical moment for Japan too. It had been a while since a metal band made it worldwide from Japan at this time. There was X Japan and Loudness before this, but they had faded from the world stage at this point. To the point that nobody was looking for metal from Japan. And then 3 little girls with Kawaii metal in their pocket change everything and this is that moment. Babymetal opened the flood gates for Metal bands from Japan to return to the world stage. The USA had the British invasion long ago. And after this performance came the Japanese invasion. Band Maid, Lovebites, Nymophila just to name a few. All because Babymetal made folks look East and ask what the heck is going on over there. Answer a new take on old things. IMO refreshing take on it too. Enjoy the rest of your journey through the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music. See You

By my count, these three tiny Japanese ladies in tutus broke through at least 5 glass ceilings in this one performance. 1) Age, 2) Nationality/Race, 3) Non-English singers/musicians, 4) genre (before them, nobody has performed anything remotely close to Babymetal's mish-mash of pop, idol, rock, metal with choreographed dancing!) and 5) literal "ascent" to the main stage from obscurity. I mean after the teenaged Babymetal girls did this in Sonisphere - one of the hard core, unforgiving and heralded metal festivals in the world, it's safe to say there is little that these ladies won't be able to pull off in live performances...

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🚫 They were bumped up to a main stage once their music video for 'Gimme Chocolate!!' started to go viral outside of Japan. That was a couple of months before this Sonisphere appearance. My favorite part of 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' is still the part where Su threatens to kick Yui and Moa in the head if they don't stop bullying each other. And this anti-bullying song gets some of the biggest mosh pits. : ) I can't imagine the strength of nerve it took for a 16 year old Su, and just turned 15 year olds Yui and Moa to take that stage. And to leave them wanting more. I'd say they made some new fans that day. They followed this up with a headlining concert at The Forum in London two days later. This was a classic Kami Band line-up with Mikio Fujioka (RIP) and Leda Cygnus on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums.

Apparently Babymetal wasn't even suppose to be performing on the main stage. Being the girls first performance outside of their home country of Japan, they were quite nervous and didn't really know how the crowd would react to them. Apparently, if the crowd didn't like you, they'd let you know about it. Thankfully, Babymetal was accepted and they're more successful as a result of this.

You've said before that you wished you could see more of the band onstage, well here you go. Usually videos of them performing at festivals is a good way to see that. You should check out the entire 5 song set, there's a video of it here on YT 🦊🤘

If you haven't already, you should do a react to the official video of it. Yui & Moa are absurdly cute while pretending to the play the guitar solos. There's a couple of alt versions as well. The guitarist in this "Nemesis" version is kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmnac2Z8bp2XbLMsi=51LzEdj1KoLgCCiA is Michael Amott of Arch Enemy. Both pretty different and good at the same time. And here's a link to a the making of video. Fun stuff. kzbin.info/www/bejne/haLcfnd5nMuYobssi=lro5a-mlBtYo2WGh

The fan cams footage prior to this video has an introduction message about the last song. One message shown is “Wall of death”. Don’t react to this. Just enjoy it.

Thought I had a comment before. Someone said already they were bumped up to main stage. Yui's dress snagged on her wrist spike. And.. Mikio(RIP) has some great solos and individual vids. I like your energetic reviews. Keep it going, y'all. ✌️🎶
