man that first year we had a bunch of players transfer out and the talent we had on the roster for 2022 was just not great, it didn't help that Dillon Gabriel very much underperformed that year as compared to his next 2. This year the OC we had was god awful and idk what he was doing calling plays the fact he was fired like 6 or 7 games into the season this year says a lot. We were also riddled with injuries; burkes, farooq, anderson, even sawchuck missed some time this season so we just didn't have the talent necessary to go along with the very mediocre qb play we had this year. a talent filled BV defense that understands his scheme is very much as advertised and was really fun to watch this year. the players seem to be passionate to play for him which I never remembered seeing under Lincoln Riley. I think if given a healthy roster with a competent play caller (like we had in Jeff Lebby) there's no part of me that can say BV can't take Oklahoma on a playoff run. I could very much be delusional but the 2 losing seasons we had are not solely BV's fault, this isn't a Jimbo Fisher situation by any means.

I agree with these thoughts but am afraid that unless the offensive line and the receivers improve it will be another long season in 2025. The receivers should be slightly better, but unless some of the younger linemen break out, we won't be better.

Brent Venables inherited a rebuild. It was Lincoln who got handed everything with winning seasons. Don't pretend he did anything good but have great offenses. He left in the dark. He gutted the team leaving the OU program to scramble for a new head coach and trying to retain players. A lot of them left. If Brent Venables doesn't win 8-9 wins then he needs to go.
