Mike Gundy always seems to say the wrong thing. He needs a handler to help him to keep his big mouth shut. Early us the season he talked about his RB and DUI. Later in the season, he trashed OSU fans. Indiana put up with Bobby Knight for so many years because he won B1G basketball titles. But once his teams quit winning, all of a sudden his action forced Indiana to say so long.

The ironic thing about Mike Gundy is that his genius has always been scouting and development. There are few coaches who have been better than Gundy at finding and developing under recruited players and turning them into solid Big 12 players, NFL players and in some cases All Americans. Given his ability to scout and judge talent, you would think Gundy would thrive in the era of the transfer portal. Gundy should be out finding guys languishing on the bench or being under developed and under utilized by higher profile programs and bringing them to Stillwater and making them stars. For some reason, however, Gundy has refused to embrace the transfer portal and the realities of post NIL/COVID college football. If Gundy is willing to accept reality and apply his formidable coaching and talent evaluation skills to the transfer portal, I think Gundy could be even more successful than he has been. I am not sure if he will do that. He has been a head coach for 20 years and just seems set in his ways. If he doesn't change and embrace the transfer portal, next year will be a sad and unfitting end to an otherwise great career at OSU.

Surely you aren’t recommending OSU tamper with players, that’s unethical. Mike can’t see players until they enter the portal and then has maybe 15 days to make a decision. High school recruiting is a much different animal. Nick Saban didn’t want to coach in the “play for pay” era and I doubt Mike does either. I think he’s probably waiting for the court decision on revenue sharing or he would already be gone. NIL will be the death knell of college football as we know it.

@@johnkluge3421 So what? That is ALL history. Eight 10-plus seasons and how many national titles? How many Big 12 titles? Does anyone really care about those bowl wins? Oklahoma State was forecast to challenge for the Big 12 title, but they hit rock bottom. Please explain.

One of the most frustrating things about okst. When you have a great coordinator loke jim knowls you let him walk to another program for a slight pay bump. Asu offense coordinator was at OKst at one point. I watched 4yrs pf dunn and thought what dirt did he have on gundy because his offense was horrible. Gundy has been complacent because of his contact. He needs a handler and a fire light under him. For his pay he should be coaching in big12 title games and playoff births.

Damn Kurtz. He has a 54% winning record at OSU. What legacy are you talking about? In 20 years he has one conference title (2011), The 2025 recruiting class for Oklahoma State football is considered to be one of his best ever: #29. (247) sports. But I guess you are right. It seems like a good fit. The administration is to lazy to find a coach, and Gundy is to lazy to look for another job. Perfect.
@reverend_wintondupree24 күн бұрын
Gundy's winning percentage at OSU is 67.8% as a HC. He's had 8 10+ win seasons, which OSU previously hacnt had a 10 game (or multiple10+) winning seasons since the Pat Jones era in 1988. Les Miles nor Jimmie Johnson could win 10 games at Stillwater. Maybe it is time OSU moved on, and its likely next year would be the last year, barring a Conference Championship run. But Gundy desreves the credit for what he has been able to accomplish at OSU given the program's history and how difficult it has been to win consistently there in the modern era.
@mikehappy262024 күн бұрын
@@reverend_wintondupree So tell me. Why is it as "difficult as it has been to win consistently there in the modern era." Could it be coaching? If you are satisfied being the perineal Big 12 runner up, you have a lot to cheer. Well not this year.

@@mikehappy2620come on, you are showing you have no perspective. OSU got good coaches but lost them when they started to show promise - like Less Miles and Jimmy Johnson. The facilities were crap. My high school stadium was better than Lewis Field when I got there. Gundy has taken OSU to heights we’ve never seen. Things could be better at times, but given our resources, history, and potential Gundy has been great for OSU. He’s probably peaked - I don’t see him winning a national championship - but before him we were struggling to get to a bowl game.

Okie Lite needs to look at Nebraska when the fired Solich for going 9-3 bc he lost to UT, KSU, and Mizzou (I believe those were the teams) and they’ve never recovered from that. Solich didn’t do much after he left Nubb, but nonetheless, the huskers haven’t sniffed anything close to the success they had in the Osborne era.
