Its simple, Arbuckle will either save Venables job next year or he won't

This was a great breakdown without all of the fanatic crying. Hawkins is 18 years old! 18. If he's performing like this as a True Freshman. Oklahoma needs to invest in the young man!

You sure are right about the worst group of recievers I’ve ever seen. These dudes had all year to step up and make something happen and none of them did. Maybe Jacob Jordan (a couple good games)…but honestly they had a golden opportunity and they got pushed around like little kids playing a grown man’s sport. Sometimes people get hurt and like they say, next man up. But no one ever stepped up this year. I get it the play calling and offensive design was horrendous and the QB play was unforgivable, but nobody on the outside got good at winning their individual matchups.

Nobody knows why X Rob didn’t start this game. Murray’s RB rotation hasn’t made sense all year.

I was hopeful we could win this game to end this season, but sadly this season has been a wash since the Texas game. With that being said I'm very excited about Mateer and Arbuckle. I would personally enjoy you breaking down his scheme and concepts we should expect to see next season. Because if this hire is a miss BV will be gone.
@jimmycutter430722 сағат бұрын
Excellent analysis. Thanks. It'll be different with Arbuckle play calling and Mateer play making and better oline and wrs
@ovaltinejenkins74286 сағат бұрын
I hope Hawkins comes back because he may get actual development under an actual OC and QB coach, but if he ever sees the field at OU, it'll probably be under a new regime. If Arbuckle was the hire last off-season, he may have been able to salvage something, but the hole is probably too deep and OU is just raiding the FCS again for portal additions outside of QB1. The Litrell hire literally set the program back a couple of years and Venables doesn't have a couple of years left.

Well, Navy is an OK but they are not the same team as it was in the mid-60s with Staubach. Watching the game, it was like watching high school size players (Navy) against college 3-5 Stars. If Navy had a QB who could actually pass, it would have been worse. OU has always been known for their OL, but 20 points?

I appreciate you Tracy! How do you feel about them next year?
@tracyfriend345420 сағат бұрын
@@powerhoursec I'm not very optimistic. I pick us to just have 6- 7 wins this year, so I was not someone who drank the kool-aid and thought we would get 8-10 wins. I will be surprised if BV makes it through next year. I don't see how we can turn it around and become competitive from now until kick off next season. The QB form WasU is a nice pick up, but he's going to need talent around him to be successful. And we don't have it. Maybe we can find some football players. We were way more talented than Navy, but we were out coached and out played by a football team with football players on it today. Hat's off to Navy for doing what they needed to do to win.

For that 2-pt conversion why do you call a straight dropback with a true freshman who has great wheels?
@Soonerdpb7136 сағат бұрын
Better offensive leadership and proven veteran receivers will balance this team out and yield more wins. The bad oc hire, wr injuries with this sec schedule were the perfect storm. Hopefully the defense will be able to play with a wider margin of error next year with an even tougher schedule.

26 players to the portal, no wr1s, we ran three side /screen pass plays, and draw plays directly to the pile + QB scramble/runs. Did we really expect a win? No. We had J Finley in the booth and our scout team on the field for offense. Field an L get an L. Tears aren't going to bring wins. We will see what happens next year. 🎉BOOMER!

The blocking scheme on that 4th down slow developing play to RB was ridiculous. You have a Tackle lined up at TE and numbers at Point of Attack, at worst even up, on the right side and he blocks down, double teaming the man over the tackle? REALLY? Leaves the backer with a free run and the OU back is on that side. Well done OU. 🤣 If he turns that guy out, there is a huge crease for the RB to get the first right in front of him. JJF and the line making a mess. Same as the stupidity of sliding protection on the 2 point play left with 2 freebies on the outside right and one guy left to protect. SMH I think Hawkins even called it out. Maybe they are so bad they need to have a 5 on 4 or 5 on 3 to block the Navy line. The D line guy left unaccounted, best pass rusher on the Navy team. Nice recognition by the O line. Sheesh

Mateer would of cut this navy defense up but just like you said the receivers are putrid. Which is not all their faults. Its development. As a receiver you always run to open spaces. Not into the defense. And the same for Hawkins not all his fault. It's coaching and development

I think under the circumstances - 7 top w.r.'s gone/hurt- dropped passes-o-line needs to improve -better Q.B. play - o line improves and wideouts stay healthy next year we have an excellent shot for 20 wins at best!! P.S. start the ROBINSON kid at R.B.- he's hands down best rb!!
@chadrobinson31638 сағат бұрын
That 95 yard run was very much Kanak’s fault. He overplayed the rb handoff so far that the pulling guard was surprised to find that he had run himself completely out of the play. We had OLB/for the play side pitch, the D-end ready to play the handoff, and Kanak should’ve been there to take on the pulling guard and play the QB keep. He wasn’t even in the picture by the time Horvath pulled it. BV said as much in the post game presser. Combine that with the free safety getting lost and Jaden Jackson (DT) getting pushed around like a ragdoll, then our speedy DBs getting outrun by lead-foot, and it’s a 95 yard embarrassment of a td.

Where is all our so called big wide receivers? Didn’t I hear where Burks was staying or something like that. Where is he at all the time. It seems like they stayed hurt all season long. Or at least that’s the way I saw it. Or at least I didn’t see them in the lineup much. Well to me if that’s the case it tells me they’re injury prone and no use to us if you can’t count on them to playing. So send them down the road. Let someone else worry about them.
