You might be able to do this in single player too. Send your conversationalist, probably Tav or Durge, up to talk and click over to someone else before the convo triggers, then sneak around with someone and grab the barrel before switching back and finishing the convo

He’s useful too. I haven’t gotten this far into the game yet, but Im not far in my couch co-op run. So I know he can occasionally bring you shit like a potion or food item back to the camp! Super cute cutscene. I think the trigger is to frequently pet him or pet him certain amount of times

There exist a barbarian build solely dedicated to throwing weapons : search for thowmancer Karlach. to make it even more busted, I believe there is a Pyke early in the game tailored for this ( it has a Homing Weapon, so it comes back to the character after thrown )
