5 Years on Our Farm in Portugal: Facing Challenges and Cherishing Memories

Five years ago, we began a new chapter of our lives on this beautiful farm in central Portugal. In this Vlog, I share how things haven’t been quite working out this year. From broken-down tractors and machinery to drought-like conditions, it’s been a year filled with challenges. We also take a moment to reflect on the highs and lows of our journey -embracing the joys of rural living, remembering the animals and loved ones who have been part of our story, and sharing the valuable lessons we've learned along the way. Thanks Shane, the day after i filmed this quiet video was full of action... Joaquim was back with 2 different tractors and tonnes of sheep manure... im going to release that new video mid week so keep an eye out :)

Ken, I absolutely love the channel! Congratulations on 5 years to the both of you in Portugal 🙏 as a lifelong poultry enthusiast, I would really encourage you to look at the different chicken tractor plans that are available online. I'll try to find the one that we use and send it to you via email. It's going to be much easier to build than your chicken run, and I wager it will be less expensive as well. Hello Ken and Gina, nice video to catch up on the farm news , have missed your videos, you were one of the pioneers that I started watching, gosh, five years ago already... sad to hear about Nanook passing and how Boyjie has been missing him and Dog dog 😥 love their pic cuddling with Gina, gosh my cat Milly is about 14 years old she's gone deaf and also miaows very very loudly and soulfully sometimes, and I thought she was losing it a bit...oh dear so when you mentioned dementia it sort of made sense 😢 thought of you when I saw that the cheese from Soalheira was voted the best at world cheese awards, wow! Lovely retrospective Ken on your experience. Harvests sometimes have to carry you through for more than a year. Hopefully, the oliveiras will produce a bumper crop next time. At least you can diversify to keep you motivated to keep improving your farm. The influx into rural areas won’t be slowing down. Affordable housing and land, what’s not to love? Feliz Natal❤.

MY CAT is over 20 and has dementia and doesn’t know how to come back into the house. It is sad.

aaah im so sad to hear it... at least ours still knows how to come back in... its the fact that our dogs are so mean to him now that really upsets us... hopefully things will get better for him!

Oye los plumiferos se bañan!!! 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️, su tu no le construyes su baño seco... Ellos se la harán!!! 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️.... Le puede hacer tu: una parte de arena fina, otra de tierra, y tierra de diatomea... Tu acabas un rectángulo no ljy profundo.. Y pones esa mezcla... Tus plumiferos estarán saludable y felices.... Tu observa los pájaros sedan baños secos con tierras... Las gallinas igual... Bueno todo plumiferos lo hacen... Se deapiljan, se quitan parásitos de tierra.. En fin se dan una buena petroleada de tierra 😂😂😂. Saludo cordial.

If you watch the video again, you will hear him explaining they found a lovely new home for their geese.

We had to rehome them for the best outcome... the geese pair were starting fights with our livestock guardian dog... which was not going to end well at all for them. I do miss there silly goosie'ness and I really enjoyed their time at the farm, but they have gone to another awesome farm to live out their goosey lives... dog free :)
