We got along in the 70s, 80s and 90s because we did not have politicians telling us that we should not get along. Color that my opinion from a 56-year-old who has lived through it all.

I grew up in the 60s and 70s, too. There was definitely plenty of racism. We had politicians who were in the KKK. Remember the busing riots? I lived in a town of about 50K in Florida and my high school had to shut the lunchroom down for the entire decade of the 70s due to race riots. We ate in our rooms. I think the one thing that was different in those days was an expectation that things would always be better tomorrow. Now we see all that racism and hatred that was hidden coming out of the woodwork because we have had leaders making them feel less ashamed to show it. This time the bulk of the hatred is aimed at LGBTQ+ and liberals in general, along with non-white immigrants. Jews and blacks are still in the mix as well. I no longer feel tomorrow will be better and that scares and saddens me. The music from the 70s to the 90s was something special. I like most music but I really love the 80s. I started liking rap in high school with The Sugar Hill Gang and Rapper's Delight. We are so luck today to have streaming so anyone can listen to anything. Listen to some Jazz and Swing from the 30s and 40s, some of that will get your feet tapping for sure. Thanks for the reaction, great song, great era.

I grew up in the 70s in a poor, racially mixed neighborhood. That kid doesn't recognize the world we live in today. I'm hopeful that through the music of the past, we can reconnect and see it is the powerful and rich that stoke racial tensions so we ignore how they are ripping everyone off and enriching themselves in the process. Life was so much easier back then, but then again, I was a kid - what did I know.

You are so cute and funny dancing with the broom!! Yes, we ALL were cleaning and jamming on Saturday morning - getting ready for the party Saturday night!! This music is the soundtrack of my High School days and I'm still jamming to it at 63!! Yes, thank the Lord that I still can!! My cousin who was just born when this song came out (1975) has been touring with KC and the Sunshine Band for the past 10 years as a singer/dancer (they were just at the Fox in Atlanta)!! This music is funky and soulful for ALL generations and races!!

This is the most entertaining Reaction video on KZbin! 😂🤣 LOVED your reaction because you totally get it! Growing up hearing this in the background of your life at some point just leaves that deep impression and then the vocals, music, horns, drums, it just has this sound that lifts your soul! No one really gets it better than the impression made when you’re a child though those who know great music can feel it. So love this video!! “Where the feel good, good tunes at?” “They don’t make music like this no mo!” I get it! 😂

Bad ass group! I’m a Rock fan, so I didn’t link with Disco music that much when it first came out but, when I was old enough to go to Clubs and Bars (around 1980), that’s when I understood the genre better. I got into dancing (I’m a drummer, so that tracks, plus the babes!) and Disco/dancing music was a vibe I tapped into. That said, I was still a big Rock fan, I look at KC&TSB as an “Arena Disco” band! That means their music was so big-sounding and popular that it should be on an Arena tour, back in the day! I think they were playing the big venues like The Capital Center (D.C.), The Spectrum (Philly) and MSG in NY. Awesome!

Hey, Sceez - I'm old, so back in the day, the HS dance team I was on had a routine to "Get Down tonight" - and somehow it became an "issue" - so we were told a week before performing that we couldn't do it.. it was "suggestive" -- so us kids were a bit panicked, but our coaches said "don't worry" - so we did our routine to THIS song.. same rhythm - and nobody had time to object - the funny thing to me was this song seems much more "suggestive" - lol...

I like your comments about not realizing he was a white dude but loving the diversity of the band and comparing it to modern day but it made me think of Elvis Presley man I think you could almost argue that he set the pattern for that. At least for somebody that was really well known at a time when a lot of people hated him for it and he just went ahead and did it anyway. Again I've only been around for a couple days so I can't remember if you ever acted in any Elvis yet. But anyway man this is a total jam, love your energy, but I'll tell you what man one of my favorites ever was I'm your Boogie man. And that one also has kind of a live video just like this. And it's worth watching that version they're packed onto a much smaller stage but they're still rocking out including all the horn players and everything. It's just beautiful.
