I enjoy watching your videos. You are a perfectionist. A couple things on scraping, try to get your blueing thinner. You will get a better read on your high points without all the smearing. Also, you want individual scrapes for oil retention. The .0002” variations of the criss cross pattern with individual scrapes will provide bearing and oil pockets. Just my 2 cents. I have always heard these are excellent lathes. Seeing the breakdown proves it. Very high quality, labor intensive engineering and assembly fitting. IMHO sir.

I finished my Clausing Colchester 15”x 60” last year here in Chicago, USA. I’ve had several different brands and sizes. Colchester wins by a mile. Japanese machines are a close second.

@@bartharkemametalworks2299 I currently have a Colchester triumph 2000, and I pick up my Okuma LS next week. It will be interesting to compare them. I can already see that the Okuma is the superior lathe when it comes to precision/stiffness etc, but I feel like the Colchester is more user friendly of the two for basic jobbing work. It's going to be a fun project comparing them, I think my Okuma is in similar condition to yours when you picked it up, It will get similar treatment too.

That machine seems to have taken a serious beating along the way. But that didn’t seem apparent during the initial inspection. Maybe this should be the expected condition of such machines? Good thing it found the right home!
@bartharkemametalworks22994 жыл бұрын
Yes I think it was used a lot in production / job shop. Then this can be expected. But some people will take better care. I think to problem with the oil was never fixed and therefore it had some more wear. But still I think its a great machine and accurate enough for my work.

@bartharkemametalworks22994 жыл бұрын

@bartharkemametalworks22994 жыл бұрын
