@Dirty.Hookers Жыл бұрын
Okuma unfortunately discount this rod, and the PCH rod is actually what replaced this model rod. If you’re gonna have the chance at bigger yellowtail and roosters, as in above 20 lbs, I’d get a heavier model than the 15-40lb. Are you within Southern California?

@Dirty.Hookers Жыл бұрын
Those are both my 2 favorite braids. Daiwa J braid has a more smooth, softer, flexible feel to it. But these last couple years I’ve been switching to power pro maxcuatro just because it’s so much thinner and gives that much more line capacity. Most tackle shops will have both when you get your reel spooled up, so you can ask to feel and see the braid in your fingers before making the final decision

Joaquin Rosales the reel I got about 3 years ago at Fred hall for $270 and the rod was $170 online My favorite surface irons are Tady 45’s if you can find a good swimmer. Besides that, Salas 7x jr’s are really good, and the new machine made irons by some of these new companies are all ready to swim irons! Last season I had really good luck on the Steel Baits irons. The One Cool Tuna jigs work really well. I haven’t seen the action in the Snap Down Swimbait jigs yet but they should be pretty affective

I just picked up this rod, its Fn incredible. You should do a part 2 showing just how soft the tip is, yet will still throw a 5oz swimbait. Also I was testing out its lifting power last night I tied on some weight lifting plates just to get a feel and I was blown away when I got 20lbs off the floor at 90°. I'm normally only use spinners but for 400 bucks I couldn't pass the combo up with komodo 463 on it and 300yd of 40lb hollow core braid (torotamer think?) @Dirty.Hookers5 жыл бұрын
Tone Brooks this will be fine for White Sea bass. They don’t fight super hard and they’ve been eating 2 oz tubes and swimbaits so a 300 or 400 bait caster is pretty ideal for sea bass. Live bait, conventional reels work well. I prefer lever drag reels because lever drag free spools really nicely. And at least 60-70 yards of a mono top shot because mono falls off the reel better then braid so it helps the bait swim more freely. I like the Okuma Metaloid 5ii for fly lining bait. It’s not super expensive for a 2 speed and is super durable

I actually prefer casting this over conventional for livebait because I’m able to cast a sardine a bit further then with conventional

Jack Huntington I don’t know much about stripers or blues. But from all the videos I’ve seen, the heavy should be perfect fine. The 15+ lb blues is where you might want to think about the XH. @Dirty.Hookers4 жыл бұрын
William L. I’ve been fishing the komodo over my lexa for about the past year. Same for line capacity but the Komodo definitely gives off more power! So what I learned about musky rods is they are basically the equivalent to a broom stick. Super stiff and because of it, the rod doesn’t load up as well when casting. Even though the musky rods seem like similar specs as inshore rods, they’re just way too stiff. Those musky rods are designed to not give the fish any leverage.

I have the same reel, want to get that same rod you have. the question I have is why you put 50 yards of mono on for top shot? Doesnt it ever get stuck when it hits the braid? Do you tie your own top shot on, and if so, what knot do you use so it doesnt get hung up on the guides? I already lost one lure by have a top shot of mono that was about 50 yards, and when I bombed it out for a cast, it got caught up on the knot, and there went 17 bucks down the drain. Kinda new to this, so any info would be greatly appreciated. tight lines, bro!@
@Dirty.Hookers6 жыл бұрын
jay bates in my opinion it all depends on the connection knot. The smallest/thinnest knot you can tie is what you wanna go with. I can’t remember the name of the one I was taught but it’s a pretty thin knot. Haven’t had any problems with it. And I don’t cast much further then 50 yards. With the lexas I try to get between 50-60 yards of mono and that’s usually find for me. The other thing you can do is go full braid for more line on the reel since it’s not too big of a spool, and do like a 3-6 ft leader. That works too
@jaybates65936 жыл бұрын

I match the same reel and rod with 80 lbs powerpro maxcuatro to the test vs 50-60 range blue and yellowfin tuna, and it's a blast!! it will take some time to bring the fish to the boat, but it's fun.
@Dirty.Hookers7 жыл бұрын
eduardo martinez that’s awesome man! The more videos I have up involving lexas, the more crazy stories I hear! One viewer said he landed a 112 lb bluefin on the lexa 400. Haha I’ve been scared about getting spooled on a 25 pound yellow!
@eduardomartinez-bk2wx7 жыл бұрын
I seen friends catching 200 pounders with the old lexa 400. 70 pounders easy just by using a different rod. no doubt the rod is great, but the reel is amazing.
@Dirty.Hookers6 жыл бұрын
eduardo martinez yeah true. If I was targeting something big I’d definitely use a heavier shorter rod. Haha but I don’t think I could trust myself against a 50+ pounder on the lexa and not be scared
@eduardomartinez-bk2wx6 жыл бұрын
Yeah.. I know that it's sketchy to push these new lightweight setups against those strong fish, But if you never try you'll never know. I pair the old 400hs with many rods, but my favorite one is the 13 fishing omen black 8.7'' fast action 40-80lbs line rating. My favorite tuna killer.
@Dirty.Hookers6 жыл бұрын
eduardo martinez nice! I’m definitely going to look at that. I didn’t know 13 fishing made anything outside of bass fishing

Why 8'6 and not 8'?
@Dirty.Hookers4 жыл бұрын
johnnymohani when it comes to casting surface irons, longer is more ideal. Most “jig sticks” are in the 9ft to 10ft range. I had never casted a surface iron before at the time, so I got this set up an 8’6” because casting a 9-10ft rod is a totally different style that I wasn’t ready for.

Fishman Dad I don’t know a hole lot about striper fishing because I’ve only ever caught 1, but I think the Heavy model should be perfectly fine for stripers. I don’t think you would need the XH unless all the striper you’re targeting are 15+

Hi why not try a shamano tranx 400 reel with that rod it's a way better reel
@Dirty.Hookers5 жыл бұрын
Robert Robertson I personally don’t feel the need for a tranx 400. It doesn’t give off the same amount of drag pressure as the lexa or Komodo 400. It’s still an amazing reel and is super rad how small and compact they were able to get it! I have the tranx 500 and the 200 and I love both of them but I personally would prefer the lexa or Komodo for a 400 size reel
