This amp rocks! I have been using it for almost a year now and it still amazes me. I have it hooked up with a Harley Benton 212 speaker cab with 2 x 12" Celestion V30, it sounds awesome, it's the ideal combination and it's really really affordable, a lot of bang for the buck. I have a bunch of different pedals in front of it and a handful through the FX loop. Most of the time I use 1 basic setting for the amp but I also like to play with settings, no matter what, this thing makes everything sound great, no kidding. Some people laugh when they first see me with a Gibson Flying V or Explorer and then find out what amp i am using, I think they are just snobs. F**k em and rock on!!

OK I own the Monoprice version of this amp and here are a few things i did to mine (to make it chug) Install shielding tape inside cab where amp chassis goes. $3 Replace reverb cables with shielded $3 Adjust the bias (test point 10.5v) stock its around 7.5v going by test point. $0 Replace reverb pan with 3 spring MOD pan $25 Installed 6p14p-ev power tubes ($40) 6n2p preamp tubes in V1 and V2 (using 6n2 to 12ax7 adaptor) $25 RCA 12at7 in V3 $15 Replace stock speaker with Electro Harmonix 12ts8 $35 After doing this ive found the amp to be quite nice. But stock the amp was a mixed bag. Theres def not much headroom on this amp, theres a way of changing whats going on with the input to get some more clean headroom. With a TS9 and my Les Paul i can nail some crazy nice leads. You can hear the JCM800. You have to remember this amp is based on a Laney Cub 12 and that amp is based on the Marshall 2203 or 04. This just uses EL84 output tubes. I would def recommend trying out both 6n2p preamp tubes and 6p14p power tubes. They put to shame the current production tubes and dont cost an arm and a leg. The reverb circuit is never gonna be amazing in this amp, but the MOD reverb tank def helped. Also the terrible rca wires for the reverb were very prone to picking up noises. Also if your amp seems noisy, there is a hum pot inside the amp that may need to be adjusted. The stock speaker is garbage (i dont care what name is on it). I replaced mine with a Electro Harmonix speaker built by Eminence. These are killer speakers for jack shit cost. There was a NIGHT and day difference with the 2 speakers. I allowed time for both speakers to wear in a bit. 20 hours is my usual before deciding which. The 70/80 does everything but nothing at the same time. For $35 shipped the EHX 12ts8 speaker made this amp sing. Make sure your amp is biases correctly. These come biased at 7.5v and this amp needs to be at more along the lines of 10.5v or so. If your expecting this amp to do Fender tones, not really gonna happen. Unless you get what a few people have gotten and I bought just for this amp. Joyo American pedal. Its like a blackface/tweed preamp in a pedal. This added that Fender tone i think a lot of people were missing. This pedal can be used in the fx loop or in front. But i just wanted to make sure i passed that on to folks as a cheap option to possibly get that tone you were not getting. There are better pedals that do this thing, but you can find one of these for $25 on a good day. Hope i could be helpful and thanks for the video :-)

Great sounding 15 watt amp!!! I’m DEFINITELY going to pick one up. I’ve listened to A LOT of smaller amps but, none have sounded as good as that Harley Benton, for me. Thanks for the review! For that dent that your chug box made in the guitar’s body…Take a damp washrag put it over the dent that’s in the wood and take a clothes iron on medium setting place it on the rag over the dent for 10-15 seconds it will swell in the dent. Nitrocellulose lacquer is breathable but be careful not to heat the finish up too much or you can pop it off. Positive Vibrations…

not really. you're at the mercy of the PA at the venue. Most people play tiny venues without that much PA equipment and if you show up with a tiny travel amp you're not going to be able to hear yourself over the drummer 1. 2 you're going to sound really really quiet which if you're playing metal, punk, any other extreme genre is really bad.

The pre amp is basically a JCM800 clone (the amp itself is a Laney Cub clone...er, actual Cub from same factory in different enclosure). Hence, an SD-1 into the front, with gain up on amp, is, well, the 80's style chug. I have the Monoprice version. It gets 90% of my practice minutes. (over a Mesa and JC SLO clone)

Thinking about getting the American version. You absolutely can gig live with it. If you need more volume, either hook it up to an extension cab or mic it, or both. For under 300 US I don't think there are better options. Yeah, some lunchbox heads may be better, but you'll also have the added expense of a cab. Just my 2 cents.

I ordered one of these a couple months ago, and for the money ($400 CAD shipped) this thing is an absolute monster. Even on 1W, bedroom volume cant even get to THREE without blowing the roommates out. i think you could definitely jam/ rehearse with drums on this thing easily. i used to play on a 110W behringer modeling amp, and the HB is 10x louder. All tube baby! not to mention, hooking it up to my peddle board takes it to a whole nutha level. the ONLY heavy caveat is you need to buy a voltage converter to operate it in north America (120V-240V) they're about $60
@louaguado995 Жыл бұрын
It's based on a Vox AC15, a Vox doesn't chug either 😏 I have one, it's good for recording, and I like that it has an extension cabinet output, although it mutes the internal speaker when you use it. Try it into a 212 or 412 cabinet for more bass response. Also, you never turned the master over 3. You need to get both the preamp and the power amp tubes cooking to get the speaker moving for some real "chug"

You never had the volume past 1/3. The reason it was not loud in the effects loop was because you at no point ever had the volume past 1/3 up. The preamp[gain] control is bypassed in the loop because it is designed mainly for time based effects. If you would have turned the volume up all the way, it would have worked better. You did not operate the amp properly. The 1st knob is gain[pre-amp]. The 2nd knob is volume[power-amp] You could have gotten a lot more chug out of that amp.

Idk about the amp being unable to handle a rehearsal or a live gig - I've tried it, and while we're mostly playing rock and not metal, it was loud as fuck, kept up with the drummer without any problems and the volume was set to maybe 70%. Doubly so if you'd plug it into a 4x12 which just happened to stand there, haha. Also, we played a wedding gig, I miked it to beef the sound up a bit, but loudness-wise it had plenty of power.

Sounds like it'll get there with a boost, whether it's a simple tubescreamer/SD-1 or something like a precision drive. Even more so if you're using active pickups or a really hot passive. Pretty neat little package.

That amp has been made by Monoprice and sold as a Stage Right amp for several years. I have one I have played rthe shit out of for thw past 2 yrs without a single problem. I get chug out of mine with 6 or 7 gain and 5 or 6 volume and everything else about noon. Seems like once the volume get to 5 or 6 it really awakens the beast in them. Mine was loaded with JJs and the 70/80 celestion and sounds really good and excepts pedals well. I have to travel 400 miles to work and its perfect for a in the middle of no-where and if it got stolen I would be out a lot of money. I really like the one I have. It is supposedly a Laney Cub board and electronics. I have a music room with several up to 75W amps but end up playing the Monoprice/bentley way more than the others. It has been very dependable and I crank it to metal and chug for hours at a time. Seems like any decent overdrive will get it chuggin and lower volume and gain settings. Anyways, thanks for the great review on the more affordable items. Sure makes me feel better on my purchase. Keep on Chuggin David

The EQ is the normal Marshall tone stack, and behaves exactly as one. The preamp overall is a normal JCM800 preamp. The schematics are available online. This is a JCM800 preamp into the 2 x el84 power amp, with an effects loop that works fine (for any pedals I use on it). And, personally, I like the cheapo Celestion speaker, and the real spring reverb. I think of this as a alternative to a DSL20 (as I use it), but better, mainly due to the real reverb. The DSL20 has more widgetry, but when I want to dial and dial stuff for the fun of it, I just goto my Mesa Mark. As a turnkey combo, less can be more.

I think this a Laney LC15/cub clone like the monoprice. The preamp side is the high gain side of a JCM800 but it's got much smaller power tubes and transformers. I'm using a cub head with a 1x12 or 2x12 and it's louder than any drummer. The tone operates across the output transformer on the cub, it's really useful if you use the amp as a pedal platform into the fx loop or use a loop switcher to go from preamp to external pedal in the fx loop for channel switching. I use it mostly as a fast dial for getting close to right when swapping between speaker cabs on on my cub head.

@@IridiumZero no. My take on it was he didn’t expect the amp to be as good of a pedal platform as it turned out to be. But to each their own

@Erik Rummel wow the pedal he's selling can make a cheap amp sound good just in time for Christmas, no way!

I've got an old 2x12 crate 120w solid state Amp. I'd love to but a chug pedal for it. The chug has the perfect distortion sound for me

That shit sounded pretty beautiful. I liked it before the Chug pedal. Thanks for what you do. Will be buying merch soon as well as a Solar V!

I use this amp clean gain at 4 and put the TC electronics fangs on the front. It is a surprise of an amp. People, chsnge the tubes on v1 and c2, those chinese tubes on it really are capacitance loud.

So, I'm sure it's been mentioned but I just want everyone to know that this amp is the same as the monoprice 15 watt

Love the pick spike maxed out the chug meter 🤣

I thought it was chugging with the gain maxed, nice thick tone too.

wow, sounds very GOOD for this size and price. I think it would chug if volume was at least on 50-70%.

It's "GHUGGIN"...It Sounds Great without the "Distortion Pedals".🤟🎸🤟

I ordered a marshall with two 70/80's for my EVH 50 watt and it sounded like shit. Too much high end so I said screw it and bought the matching EVH cab and it sounds killer! That little amp sounds pretty good for what it is. Harley Benton is what Glenn Fricker always promotes cause they are a good brand that's cheap but you get a lot of bang for you buck.

Thanks for the review, just wondering did you consider adjusting the tone controls. Seemed like you messed with the gain and volume but left the tone controls in one spot.

........ love this chug machine! .......There is a celestion 70 in there also. Probably would like this amplifier with a BGT white stripe. Then upgrade the power supply or amp with more tube wiring for more power and thicken up wires need thickening and etc. so i can play live with it and at practice with the same rig i practice and jam and write songs on. That is the way it works.

Try the pedal inside the eff loop, but going into amp input. It's a great way of shaping the tone before iz goes into the pedal. Sounds cool.
