The moment you said "switch over to 6505" I knew exactly what I am expecting to hear as I've been playing a lot of 6505 2x12 combo lately... I didn't disappoint and actually amazed to be honest. It has the familiar bass and the lower frequency crunch of 6505! It may not be the exact sound but I thought they did a pretty good job mimicing 6505 sounding.

The gain in this amp series is absolutely mindblowing considering the price. Better than a lot of more expensive SS amps. A cheap way to get that 'wall of distortion' sound that you see in live shows is to take this amp, another amp that has a different sounding distortion like a marshall SS amp and hook them both up to an EHX switchblade and use both A+B channels.

I am amazed to see a modern video on one of these! I bought a VIP 3 six years ago and it has served every need I had in guitar playing. I have never needed to get a new amp or very many pedals because this thing does SO MUCH. I can't believe how clear and present this thing sounds for a relatively cheap practice amp, I love this amp to death. Mine is beat to all hell, turning the knobs down actually makes them go UP for some reason, but using the software you can find online bypasses that issue pretty easily. I still use mine every day and only recently, after six years of using it, have I thought of selling it and using an amp sim on my computer. This thing still holds up against every other amp in its category and I wish more beginner guitarists would buy these instead of Line 6 amps. I can't say enough good things about the Vypyr.

I owned this amp for several years, and it's brutal amp for the price. I used it on hunderds of gigs and not just for metal. I played even blues, funk, pop and dnb with it. In my opinion, if you play smaller gigs, up to 700-800 people, it is better option than some head/cab options. But one thing that bothered me the most is not the character of the amp, it is the high end hiss that every amp model produced when you implement the gain. If they fixed this problem, this very amp would be the next bandit 112 in terms of the mass usage.

I got a tighter, punchier response with more growl, increased clarity, and it kept up with our drummer way easier and cut way better without having to sacrifice EQ. Well, from my own experience Peavey are super reliable amps. Been using this amps and some expensive ones for some decades, and I can tell that in reliability they beat everybody else. My last Peavey was a Valveking212 and had no complaints in a decade! Again, maybe not the best tone machine, but hell they are the most reliable. Tip* change the speakers, use an extension cab and run your favorite pedals/emulators/etc in the front and you're going to be surprised! Great video Ola

Thanks for the great review ... you probably like the amp so much because unlike the Boss and Line 6 the VYPYR uses analog distortion (TransTube). The Power Sponge is also part of it and actually patented - it simulates turning down the power section of a tube amp, and the SAG of a real tube amplifier. The gate on it is really not designed to be the type of gate you would find in a pedal....it's more to get rid of background noise and we realize it could be improved. The VYPYR Pro does have an adjustable gate. I hear you on the interface ...hard to control all that stuff from the front of an amp...most of the competitors you have to use outboard gear or USB to access features at least you can get to all features from the amp itself - Thanks again! -Fred

I've had a Vypyr 2 (40 Watt) since 2014. I was listening to a lot of The Haunted, Sabbath, Ghost, At the Gates, etc... Still do!!! Lol. I went into guitar center looking for an Orange. The salesman was like...."you'll get a lot more for you money with this Peavey." I went with his advice and I'm glad that I did. There is a vast array of built in tone/effects for the blue collar working man without loads of expendable funds. And it definitely sounds brutal! I put it on fuzz with the 6505 setting primarily and it is just wicked. THX OLA! 🤘🎸✌️🎸🤘

@@portuguesebeer5069 what he meant was that peavy vip 3 was the best for insanely good metal stuff ,, but he still likes katana but would probably need a overdrive or distortion pedal in front of the amp tho ,,,because katana probably doesn't do hard or heavy metal by itself without a pedal like the peavy viper 3 does ,,I had this same vip 3 and it does do heavy really good without any pedals ,,I can attest to that .

I ordered a VIP 2 the other day. Its not arrived yet, but it looks like a really good home practice amp. And dare I say the ones with the 12 inch speaker MIGHT be gig worthy. Though I've not used one yet, so I don't really know what it'd be like for gigging.

Nice review Ola. As the (former) owner of the VIP-1, I totally agree. Amp sounds great, although it's lacking noise gate settings. VIP-1 has 8" speaker which is OK for home use, but not enough for louder environment. My friend has a VIP-2 with 12" speaker, same as VIP-3, and that one is way better. I was considering replacing speaker, but I done some research and it seems that these Peavey speakers are tuned for use with this specific amp and it's amp models, so replacing it with something else (ie. Celestion) may not be worth it, as it may not necessarily give expected results. USB connection is useful for simple direct recording in DAW (amp becomes soundcard with all the benefits of built-in amp models and FX). (I put some samples on my YT "channel") USB also allows to edit presets and banks in the amp, with a simple yet outdated aplication. I didn't use it that much. When I started meeting a friend to play some music "live" again, it occured that my VIP-1 couldn't match his VIP-2 in "loudness war", so I (just recently) sold my Peavey VIP-1 and got myself something louder. :)

Im just going to be the guy that points out all this v30 stuff is getting old lol. This is a modelling amp, not a tube amp. Modelling amps generally need flat response speakers, the amp models are voiced for it. A v30 will sound different but not necessarily better, or how you imagine they sound with your favorite tube amp etc..
@bigchiefsmackaho387
@bigchiefsmackaho387 3 жыл бұрын
@@jrg770 you can certainly tell where the current fad is speaker wise lol. V30’s are great speakers, but they are not the be all end all of metal tone. I myself prefer Greenbacks over v30s. These vypyrs are just running what are essentially Blue Marvel speakers in the 12 inch models so a swap is well in order when you get one.

Peavey has been a great brand for decades, especially if you wanna do metal ! I loved the valveking, classic 30 (this one doesnt look like a metal amp, but it can do 80's heavy pretty well) and the Bandit 112 i had. I loved especially the Bandit for its warmth, sturdy construction and of course this grindin' distortion that became a classic. Apparently the Ultra is really good and of course the 5150/6505 is the way to go for metal, may it be oldschool or modern (also one of my favorites, never owned one, but always loved to play these). The Vypyr is no exception, but i'm not a fan of the digital processing thing goin'on inside, but that's more of a matter of taste from someone who owns amps twice his age ! So to sum it up, the vypyr is indeed good, and as long as it gets the job done, well, it's the right tool. Have a nice day everyone !
