Thank you so much for this video! Watched it five days ago and bought a 6505+ 112 two days later for 380 Euros. Then, I ordered a V30 (8 Ohm) at Thomann, and guess what: it was 2022 model! The sound is incredible and so much better than before. And for those who wanna know: I also got the 16 Ohm version and tested it. Not as good as the 8 Ohm. A bit harsher, a bit more top end. However, it also had a transparent dust cap. Not as transparent as the 2022 model though. I'm keeping the 8 Ohm now. Amazing sound. Now I'm waiting for my overdrive to arrive. I opted for the Randall Facepunch. Can't wait to listen how that sounds. Right now, I don't need any overdrive for a Drop D tuning (Seymour Duncan Black Winter). Drop C however is getting a little loose on the low end although I got a nasty sounding Bareknuckle Nailbomb in it. Sevenstring sounds great as well (especially for Drop G) but still: overdrive is needed.

The 112+ combo in this video is a great amp, but it is not the same as the 212 combo or 5150ii circuit

My understanding is that tubes can be fragile and if you drop your amp, or put your amp behind the rear axel of your trailer where it vibrates and bounces the most, you can damage the tubes in your amp, thus satisfying the OP's statement about "breaking tubes". ..

It's a 50watt all tube combo with 6l6 power tubes and 12ax7 pre-amp tubes. The speaker is a "proprietary" 12inch Valve King. I don't know how many watts it is, but it's 16ohm and gets the job done. To me, it sounds somewhere between a Green Back and a Vintage 30. This amp also has a "blend" knob on the back for going from class A to class A/B, or anything in between. Also the Valve King ll ( same as Valve King, but with a couple added features) and if you like a Plexi type amp/sound, the Peavey Windsor are also good and inexpensive. A friend of mine had a Windsor and it was amazing. Keep up the great work Glen. You're killin' it man.

You didn’t mention the spring reverb! I have an always on Boss RV-6 that I use just for spring. I can toss that now, along with the fancy new Soldano SLO pedal I just bought. Those pedals are simply redundant with this amp. Waiting for a new V30 to arrive and then this thing will be killer. I’ll be running it into a Torpedo Captor for recording too in situations when I can’t mic it up. This is pretty much perfect for me. Appreciate the hot tip!

6505+112 was my first real amp and I still have it today. I made it into a head and ran it through a used 1960A 4x12 and it slayed! Super loud, great high gain tone, and a fraction of the price of "the real deal". One of the best deals on the market for great tone IMO. Cost me a total of $900 at the time.

Just checked, a used EVH 5150 head version costs 700 bucks locally, so still kind of affordable. I got my Laney AOR head for around 300 bucks a few years ago and it ended up on 4 of my bands releases. Super awesome amp if you are into Doom/Stoner/Sludge and handles most other genres great as well. They unfortunatly got pretty expensive in the last few years. Now you have to shell out aroung 1K.

I own a 6505+ 112 for 8 years now, I've changed Tubes and some electronic parts. It cost me 300€ on second hand at the time. The best way to use my money. It's a great amp, I did many gig with it etc and used it with 2X12 or 4X12 = MONSTER. I've play on Fireball and EVH 5150 III, the 6505+ 112 has nothing to be ashamed in comparison. The Sheffield isn't awesome but does the job for the price. GO FOR IT !!

Glad you included a direct example! I'm over the whole massive speaker/volume experience. Planning to move later this year and getting rid of bulky speakers/amps will be part of that process. I've got a keyboard amp I can barely lift myself that I have not even turned on in years...

The 5150 vs 6505 shootouts on KZbin speak for themselves. Picked up a 6506 MH head last week for £300. It is incredible with the York mesa 4x12 IRS. Great recommendation Glenn!

I recently got the 6505+ combo and Harley Benton v30 212 because of this video and I couldn’t be happier. I actually found one at guitar center for only $499 and it’s in excellent condition. You should check their online stock because they are selling them for a wide price range. You can find old crappy beat up ones for $700 and you can find ones like mine that doesn’t have a scratch on it for less. Best gear purchase I’ve ever made.i also was given an MXR 10 band EQ with the silent night mod that I put in the loop and it’s made a gigantic difference. It makes this amp absolutely sing. I thought it sounded good and then I put that EQ in the loop and it’s like they were made for each other. If you don’t have one in the loop you need to get one. You’ll be shocked by what you hear. Trust me on that.

Love my 6505+ went to a music store looking for an amp, saw this one and tried it. I instantly fell in love. Of course the speaker it comes with isn't the best but it gets the job done.

Did I spot a Peavey Windsor there? It was my first "real" tube amp back in the day. I gigged it a lot bypassing the preamp completely as I hooked some overdrive pedals and an EQ right into the return jack. It was amazing for it's price as a pure power amp. The plastic case and preamp though... Regards, Etna.

I bought a 6505+ 1x12 combo a few years ago for $250 from GuitarCenter. It intermittently didn't work, which is why it was so cheap. I bought it thinking I could fix it. Turned out the wire to the speaker was going bad. This amp/combo is amazing. It's not much for clean tones but for classic rock to melt your face metal, it's incredible. No pedals needed, just plug in, crank it up, and play. It can actually be dialed in to have too much gain. I never thought I'd say that about any amp.

I had one of these 6505+ combo is. I felt it had no guts. I've also had pretty much every peavey version of 5150. The 2x12s IMO were the best. No boost needed. Best green channel. That James Brown quote is about the 2x12,not that sad 112

6505 has more mid presence on the lower end than the SLO. Not a bad thing. The 5150 was originally modelled after the SLO, if my memory serves correct. I always thought the 5150 was an improvement, to be honest. High gain precursor would be considered the Peavey Ultra - a real high gain beast worth a look, Glenn. I've seen the Ultra for cheaper than the 5150 and even the 6505.

Another thing people don’t realize about this amp is it’s super easy to modify. I added so many mods like making the clean sound more glassy, or making the green channel way more British sounding. Very fun amp. And I bet you can find one cheaper than that on Facebook market place. I’ve never paid over $200 for one. I even bought one for $60 before
@johnnypepperonii Жыл бұрын
I have to agree with Glenn, the 6506+ is a budget beast. Bandmate from an old band had one, he build a new case with wood and someone wrapped it in red/black tolex. He said the head modification was easy and he had a beast of a tube amp for 300 bucks running through an ENGL cab. The other guitarist ran a Blackstar H100 Stage i think? and it almost cost triple the price and it stood no chance, even with the same cab. Rich drive sound with a heavy bottom end, really liked that amp :)

Wow! Great sound. If I had known this months ago, I would have looked for this amp. I bought a Blackstar HT Club 40 and I'm happy with it. I did get it for a decent price due to my hometown music shop closing. Thank you for keep on looking out for great deals and prices for us players! And also your playing keep getting better! \m/

I was fortunate enough to take a chance on this used modded Soldano brand amp i saw in a Guitar Center for $800 back in 2000, to be more specific a Soldano Hotrod 50+ with a Bruce Egnater dual channel switch mod plus a few other tone tweaks (he is local to me and used to do amp repair/mods out of a local guitar shop), and also came with the matching Soldano 2x12 cab loaded with V30 speakers...still can't believe i got this amp/cab for that price...I've read the Soldano HR50/SLO100 inspired the 5150 design. The SLO has more of that distinct high mid presence grind that just cuts through a full mix like a knife without much effort...even better is that these SLO's have a tube preamp direct out which you can pipe into an interface and use IRs along with your mic'd signal. This amp sat in Guitar Center for a while because people had no idea of the name/history at the time and just thought it was a cheap Marshall or Mesa clone. Ultimate score, as those heads alone these days sell for $2,500 easily. I thought about selling it many times, but in the end realized i am owning a piece of important guitar amp history, that needs no other pedals to make it sound good. James Brown is a wizard as well, anyone interested in pedals needs to try some of his older Amptweaker pedal line if you can find them still...I have the Amptweaker Tight fuzz which can get all matter of any fuzz face/tonebender/muff tones as well as germanium/silicon boosts and act as a sort of treble booster/Rangemaster when you turn the fuzz knob to 0 and turn the Tight control knob way up.

Nothing like old Peavey gear. I paid $100 for a Mark III Centurion - the Faith No More bass amp - and it keeps up with my whole band and gives me the tone I’ve been chasing since I started playing.

I have a 6505+ combo can confirm its awesome. I swapped out the speaker with a celestion v30. it makes a huge difference. i have the two notes torpedo captor as well, it works ok with it. if you do have the torpedo captor i recommend using the attenuator on it as that combo is really loud. its too loud for a bedroom just past 1 on the amp. I mean you could get yourself a 1x12 evh combo for well over a grand or get a 6505+ combo for buttons. They are only about £600ish from new so still not bad for a new full valve beast.

I agree! I got mine from Italy for 300 EUR (300 USD) and replaced the speaker with the made in China V30, it is amazing, the only con is the clean channel, but there are mods online which i will do soon.

Nice. I just sold one of those, should have waited until after this video haha! It got me through many studio sessions over the years. Scooped it at a pawn shop years ago and to my ear it was almost as good as the big one. Just a word of warning for people buying them, they have been known to have noise issues in the 2nd gain channel. I had to have it completely overhauled a couple times because there were some issues that were Apperently well known on forums. Also I found it hard to get the low end right when running it in 8ohm, as the output amp is really happy running at 16 ohm. But once I got a torpedo it was pretty killer for studio tones. I traded it for a usa sig 6505+ from the same pawn shop. The low end is definitely there with the 100w but it’s not that much different to be honest.

For those of use Transistor heads out there the Fender Stage 112SE has external cabinet jacks and puts 80 Watts out that hole. (90 watts when using internal Eminence Legend, 160 watts when using BOTH). Peels the paint off the walls at about 3.5.

Well Glenn, I'm testing your hypothesis. I play a gig in Vegas where the casino gives us a backline. I fly in with my pedalboard and a guitar. They have a couple of amps backstage to choose from. The first time we played there, last year, I chose the fender deluxe reverb and the sound was ok, not great. They sound guy had to make some tweaks to it and asked me to leave my BD-2 on. Not ideal. Last month we played again and I picked the fender hot rod deluxe. WOW, amazing amp. the whole band commented on the tone, the sound guy too. My drummer said you need to buy one of those. I looked it up, it's over $1,000. Then I remembered your videos about speakers. The speaker in that amp is a celestion A-type. $120 online. It will be here next week and I'll swap out my V30 in my harley benton 112 cabinet i use for this band. I have a peavey classic 20 mini head i use for this band. I'll let you know how it goes.

Saw this video was looking for a small cab for practice saw this video so it thought to get one and got it for dirt cheap, detached the head and built the enclosure for the head now I got a new free head plus a small 1x12 to practice on without busting the bank account, great deal! Thanks Glenn for the heads up! The amp is a kickass one and a great deal!

I always had cheap digital amps. My best digital amp was my Fender Champion 50XL. My first tube amp is my Peavey 6505+ combo. After I told my local music store what I play and what I'm really looking for he mentioned the 6505+ and even told me it's a rebranded 5150. Love this amp and a Celestion V30 is what I plan on replacing the Sheffield with. Paid $800 brand new. I would have bought used but I wanted the warranty.
@kieronmckay4276 Жыл бұрын
I can't speak for the combo amps, but the 5150 Iconic head is pretty solid paired with any 212 or 412 you like. Little more expensive but not bank breaking, used fairly cheap. Little fuzzy in the highs, but alot of effects you put through the effect sends like an eq or preamp will remove all the fizzy fuz in the top and sounds super metal.

Glenn - I took your advice and picked one up for $400 off Reverb! They replaced the speaker with an Eminence Governor and removed a capacitor on the lead channel to beef it up a bit. Looking forward to cranking it up!

Nice vid Glenn but did you know this? These combo have a factory issue that can be easily "fixed": if you plug anything in the fx loop (even just a cable from the send input to the return input ) you"ll get more gain more presence and then it will sound as the old 2x12 combos...It is called the "fxloop trick"... I used to have one and now I share this fix to everybody...

When PRS & Doug Sewell started building amps together back in 2009, I bought one of the first sets of a 'tuxedo' Plexi head & 2x12 cab. That oversized 2x12 cabinet is, hands down, my favorite sounding cab that I own. I use it for nearly everything. If you can find one used, but one!

As a bass player, my first amp was a Sunn Alpha115. When I became a "pro", I got a GK400RB and toured the US, Canada and Europe with that thing. Hell, on big stages you're hearing yourself thru the monitors anyway.
