Bjorn wanted to build a guitar for less than $1000 so that young people could buy it for Christmas by working hard during the year. Really, it's the first time I've seen an artist think about that. And it's really to his credit. Real good values.

I got meet in flames at a festival in 2016 very randomly. I was buying vinyl in a merch tent and their tour manager came in and saw me buying a Clayman vinyl. Next thing I know he’s taking me backstage to a tent and there’s all the guys just standing around! The manager asks if they mine meeting one more fan for the time. They welcomed me with open arms took pictures, chatted and signed my vinyl. I spent a good hour listening to stories about the tour their experience on the festival so far. The last thing we did was have a drink! Honestly the nicest and most humble group of dudes I’ll probably ever meet. I’ve always been a fan but they won me over forever after that!

One of my favorite all time Thanksgiving memories was having Thanksgiving dinner with the In Flames boys at Dimes house in 2008 with Rita and the family. I remember it was the In Flames first time to ever eat a thanksgiving meal (because they were usually in Sweden at that time of year) and I remember myself trying to explain what "stuffing" was to Peter Iwers. Stuffing doesn't sound very appetizing when you explain what it is but man he loved it lol. Great guys they thanked Rita and all of us for the meal the next night on stage at the gig in Dallas. In Flames played with Type o Negative the night after Thanksgiving that year. They invited all of us to Sweden to eat a meal at their home. Love the content!!!

Back in 97 I was a massive power metal nerd, I was one of those who thought nothing could top it as far as melody and musicality goes. Until a friend came to a new year's eve party and told me "just play this". "This" was Whoracle and it completely blew me away and changed my whole perspective of metal. When I was young I wanted my band to have the heavy riffs of Pantera and the melody of Iron Maiden, that mixture was my goal as to how my metal band would sound like, then I come across In Flames and they executed that sound. And I've been a life long fan, plus, they also have that RadioHead album :)

It’s funny I listened to that album every day as a 16 year old. Worshipped that sound and certainly over did it. I prefer the newer material, it’s more focused on songs and melodies, more concise and accessible. As a 34 year old man now, I’ve grown and evolved with this band and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Foregone is going to be a masterpiece and the only way In Flames reaches this point, is through going through different musical experiments and expressions. Their journey has been amazing to witness and be a part of. Forever my favorite band. 🤘🔥🔥💚🤘

It’s also my favorite album apart from Whoracle. I could already see the change to a more commercial direction with Clayman and I don’t blame them. If you want to make a living only from music, you have to try reach as wide an audience as possible and the pure melodeath sound of the 90s just isn’t accessible enough for mainstream success.

Bjorn seems like a great guy. I met Anders in Edinburgh this past year, my friend was out on tour with In Flames and we met up for a drink after the show. We sat for a few minutes, and then Anders walked into the bar. He said hello to everyone at our table (because we were with my friend Ulf who was on tour with them), and the first thing he did was offer to buy a round of drinks. We spent an hour or so just talking away, and he treated us all like we were all old friends. He was a super down to earth guy, and watching this, Bjorn seems exactly the same! The new stuff sounds absolutely KILLER and they're on fire live these days too. Can't wait for the album.

I remember asking for this interview in the comments a long time ago, when you were just starting out this series and I wasn't sure you had the pull to make it happen then, but I'm glad you do now. Bjorn is one of my guitar heroes. A lot of guitarists think of guys like Steve Vai, Petrucci, Satriani, etc....I think of Bjorn, his melodic and rhythm work. Such a down to earth dude and a gamer to boot, and responsible for some of the most amazing melodic death metal songs to ever grace our ears. What a legend.

Bjorn doesn't get enough credit imo. Sure, Jesper was the main guy and wrote a lot of their songs but Bjorn also did a lot of songwriting and after Jesper left, Bjorn knew how to keep In Flames going. Sounds of a Playground Fading especially proves that In Flames is fine without Jesper. I'm sure Foregone will also prove that, as did much of I, the Mask and a few songs from Battles.

Don't worry about it getting nerdy in the beginning Man, I think a lot of us musicians are game players ourselves. They are an outlet, it's like you are playing a piece of art, so I was actually giddy to hear he's a big fan of my lot of my favorites as well. Back in the early 2000's, Bjorn really pushed me to become a better all around guitarist with inserting awesome melodies in my songs. That dude writes some of the most back chilling riffs. I also started out mainly as a drummer and then gravitated towards guitar because the band I was in needed one. I do not know notes, I don't know the names of scales, I just know where the sounds are if that makes sense. So it's cool We have that in common.

With streaming services and no need to buy LP's or CD's anymore, touring and playing live is the only real way to make money as a musician anymore. I didn't even think about how the pandemic totally ruined that whole industry. Even now that things are (mostly) back to normal as Bjorn said, a lot of that normal infrastructure has changed/disappeared. World-class bands that have toured the world multiple times are having to scrounge to set up shows the same way our tiny local bands do. What a time we live in.
