"You! You are still dangerous. But you can be my wingman any time." "Bullshit! You can be mine." Fun Fact: The real Top Gun School imposes a $5 fine to any staff member that quotes the film. Let's Go Fact: Riding on the back of this film's success, the U.S. Navy set up recruiting booths in the major cinemas to try and catch some of the adrenaline charged guys leaving the screenings. They had the highest applications rate for years as a result. Real Viper Fact: Charlie's "older man" date at the officer's club is Rear Admiral Pete "Viper" Pettigrew. He is a retired Navy pilot and Top Gun instructor, and shot down a MIG during the Vietnam War. He served as the technical consultant on the film.

1. An old shipmate of mine was on the Enterprise when they filmed this. 2. Gooses death was not Maverick's fault. Iceman was bogarting his LOS approach and they got caught in the jet wash. 3. I spent 24 years in the US Navy. 6 on "bird farms" (Carriers). I have seen 1000+ launches and landings without a single crash. These men and the men working the flat tops are doing the most dangerous job in the world (for the good guys). Shout out😎 4. Kelly McGillis/Charlie was in a movie with Harrison Ford "Witness" that's seriously worth a first time/share HINT HINT 5. Tom Skerritt/Viper not only played Dallas in "Alien" he also played Strawberry in "Up in Smoke" with Cheech and Chong. 6. Val Kilmer/Iceman has a long list of movies including but not limited to: "Willow", "The Doors" and "Tombstone" 7. The officer(Goose) is the RIO (Radar Intercept Officer) radar, communications and navigation. 8. Onboard the ship the Squadron leader would not be smoking a cigar in that operation space. 9. Meg Ryan is my honey. A great overlooked movie with her is with Tom Hanks called "Joe vs the Volcano" She plays 3 parts. HINT HINT 10. Onboard the ship/aircraft all the perspiration is Hollywood(not the pilot). There is AC onboard. 11. The TOP GUN school is no longer located at Miramar near San Diego. It's now at NAS Fallon, NV. 12. In 1991 I was stationed on the USS INDEPENDENCE (CV-62) and they made a movie onboard called "Flight of the Intruder". It was seriously cool. Brad Johnson, Willem DeFoe and Danny Glover. I'm actually in it for a very brief period of time. HINT HINT. 13. Watching/sharing the new "Top Gun Maverick" is a must. The ariel work in that movie makes this one seems like they were practicing. Better yet, it has a plot/mission. (Besides Navy recruitment).

Re: do not fire until fired upon. This is a lot of posturing and intimidation. It still takes place to this day. If one of the pilots breaks discipline and actually fires a shot, it could start a war. The Navy would much rather the other guy shoot Cougar down than Cougar fire first. Note that even at the end of the movie, the order is "If you witness a hostile act, you will *return fire*."

You will enjoy Top Gun: Maverick. I was 14 years old when this movie was released. It's been a 36 year wait for the sequel but as you will soon see the wait was well worth it. Enjoy the new TG. 😁

Hope you enjoyed the movie, Ice man is my favourite character, He brings all of the coolness to the movie and you don't have to but I highly recommend the sequel.

This movie was my first Tom Cruise movie and I gotta say that I love it because Tom Cruise as Maverick is cool even though in the sequel Top Gun Maverick he will be having some sad moments, But still, Great reaction to this very classic 1980s action film Olavity.

Charlie was a civilian contractor. No issue with dating a pilot though it would be complicated. The final fight was simplified. They didn't get into a guns battle, which was an option.

Also, re: the accident, it was partially Iceman's fault, partially Maverick's fault, and partially Goose's. Mav tells Ice to come off "high right", Ice actually goes *left* as you can see in the next shot. Partially because of that, Mav passes behind him and is in the "jetwash" from Ice's engines. That disrupts the airflow into Mav's engines and they go out, one at a time. Because they go out one at a time, the asymmetrical force throws Mav's plane into a "flat spin" as they show, where the plane spins like a Frisbee and falls straight down. (Ignore what Iceman says about them heading out to sea, that was put in to justify the water rescue.) The planes flying as close as they are in the scene is unrealistic anyway, but was necessary for filming; if they filmed realistic dogfights, they wouldn't be able to fit two planes in frame at the same time and no one in the audience would know what was going on. As seen on screen, if Ice takes that shot in real combat, both he and Mav are going down due to fouling when the MiG blows up, assuming the missile has time to arm and track at that range. Flat spin recovery in a Tomcat, especially the first generation (which was at the time of filming the only generation) with the underpowered engines, was extremely difficult. In any plane, however, the pilot is being pushed forward by the centrifugal force at several Gs and it's pretty hard to fly the plane when you have six-and-a-half or so of yourself pinning you forward. So Ice is aggressive and stubborn, Mav is aggressive and stubborn and currently can't fly the airplane. You can even hear Tom Cruise deliver a line that he's pinned forward, calling for Goose to eject them.) . Cool. What did Goose do? Goose didn't remember his procedures. In a normal eject, when the airplane is generally going "forward" (even if "forward" relative to the plane happens to actually be "down"), the moving air catches the canopy and clears it away. In a flat spin, the canopy tends to hang in the air over the jet. To quote the NATOPs manual for the F-14, section on flat spins: If flat spin is verified by flat attitude, increasing yaw rate, increasing eyeball-out g, and lack of pitch and roll rates: *8. Canopy Jettison. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . *9. Eject (RIO command eject) Goose should have blown the canopy, waited for it to no longer be in the way, and THEN ejected both him and Maverick. Of course, they also should have not waited until 6000 ft or whatever it was. To my understanding, 10,000 feet is when to take the Martin-Baker rocket ride. Sadly, this series of events is not entirely made up. The Navy did lose an actual F-14 RIO to a canopy during an ejection from a flat spin.

Great reaction....the sequel Top Gun: Maverick is even better & definitely worth watching 😁 If you're also looking for a lighthearted silly comedy that pokes fun at/spoofing Top Gun, then check out 'Hot Shots!' (1991) with Charlie Sheen, Cary Elwes, Valeria Golino, Lloyd Bridges, Jon Cryer, Kevin Dunn, William O'Leary, Heidi Swedberg, Kristy Swanson, and Bill Irwin. You'll get a lot of the Top Gun references in it for sure. Jokes & silliness are aplenty (and watch until the very end of the credits because they even put silly jokes within the end credits too). You'll have a good laugh 😂

Hi Ola!🙂A "Call Sign" is a specialized form of a nickname. Names like "Maverick" are call signs. If Charlie was military and Maverick's superior then dating would be a problem, but since she is a civilian consultant, I believe it would be allowed. I hope you do react to the sequel as well, "Top Gun: Maverick" (2022). No spoilers, but it is an EXCELLENT film!🏆 This is my first viewing since you came back. Sorry, I never saw "Intouchables", so I had to skip that one. I hope things are going better for you.🙏🏽Take care!🙂
