I got my truck stuck in our field. We tried all kinds of stuff to get it out but only the 6x6 could get the job done. In hindsight, as soon as I got stuck I should have just left it alone until we got the 6x6 running.

6x6 trucks would always be best on something like this. I always thought it would be interesting to take a lot of these old military trucks and have a cylinder kit put on them so they can be turned into functional dump bed off-road trucks for hauling firewood or hay bales. You always see videos online of Russians driving these old military trucks to haul tree logs where there is no roads, and these things are basically indestructible off-road beasts.

GMC M135 or M211. They were the successor to the WW2 Duce and half. In-line 302 with a hydra-matic 3 speed automatic transmission which was the truck’s downfall and subsequently replaced with more reliable M35 series going back to a manual transmission. Was popular to replace the automatic with a manual from the earlier WW2 trucks. They also featured twin rear output driveshafts which was a maintenance issue as well. The top loader Rockwell axels were far superior in terms of reliability and simplicity.

@@John_Graff you really Need chains for that Ford tractor ! I have a 8n and a to-30 and in alot of cases they are useless without chains , my to-30 has had a set on since 1971 and I couldn't imagine taking them off except to replace them ! In a pinch regular chain can be wrapped around through the rims taking care to not damage the valve stem .

@@Bob-tn5xn probably would have helped if my brother worked the brakes better too. I have a massey 35 with a locking diff and that also is night and day difference. The ford we mostly only use for plowing, disking, and mowing so I don't want to put chains on it. I would like a set for my massey though.

Tune the 6/6 up and maybe it could do something!

It needed more than a tune, haha. Had a bent push rod. We pulled it out of the woods a couple years back and we only run it a couple days a year now. Some day when I have time, we'll go through it and get it running good and I'll post a video about it.

Not sure if "yank em rope" is the same as kinetic energy rope. The trick to using that type of rope is getting a strong running start. The tractor was not capable of doing that. The 6X6 military 10 ton truck tractor had a winch on the front bumper but it was removed.

We had plenty of 4x4 trucks there to tow with if we had a kinetic rope. And I'm sure the ford tractor would have worked fine with a kinetic rope too, it can move plenty fast. This 6x6 never had a front winch but that big thing on the back is an auxiliary engine and crane setup. This was never a troop carrier, it was a cab and chassis truck from the factory and was made into a crane truck. If the crane engine ran, that would have been plenty sufficient to pull my truck out, but it doesn't run. At least not yet. I do plan on getting it going for a future video.

Have you fixed the right outside rear dual that's flat yet? That place is nothing but a grease pit!

On the Ford? I put all new tires on it with actual tread so I don't get stuck again. Lol. So far it has worked.

I like to see people still using old equipment instead of just letting it sit and rot, my grandpa still regularly uses his dads 1953 ford 8n tractor. What year is that tractor and the 6x6?
@John_Graff
@John_Graff Жыл бұрын
Don't know the exact year on either. Tractor is a Ford jubilee 600 so it was built sometime between 1954 and 1957. My dad did a functional restoration on it about 10 or 15 years ago. The 6x6 is a GMC M135 and we believe it was also built in the mid-50's based on the story we were told. It was a cab and chassis truck that was sold as surplus and never used by the military. It was bought by a family friend in the 60's and they built a crane on the back to use for lifting boats in and out of the Erie canal. It got parked in the 90's and the boom was cut off. We pulled it out of the woods about 5 or 6 years ago and have been using it ever since whenever we need to get someone un-stuck. I wish I was making videos at the time. Getting that thing home was a wild adventure.
