We knew the undercarriage was good and we paid less than it costs for just an undercarriage so it's not really a big deal. More work than we really wanted though. Lol

Guys you really need a cutting torch and a little welder... I worked on equipment most of my life... I'm 61 years old... You just got to have heat to break them old big bolts a loose.... But y'all are doing a good job... It's going to be a good series!!!

Thanks, we do have a torch and it was used for the stubborn bolts and nuts. I just didn't catch it on camera. I was using propane in this video to try and keep it warm because our oxygen tank ran out.

Yeah the old iron can be a pain but, as long as you can get the parts and can do the work yourself, it will probably be worth it. I have an AC HD6G. I've used it for 35 years. It and I are retired so, it doesn't get used much. To rent a similar machine for a day will cost more than replacing the batteries and servicing it. So, I keep it. Your track pads look very good. I hope that means that the rest of the undercarriage was replaced at the same time. I have the same OTC spanner. It was $175 new in 1990 but I found one at a flea market for $25 with both jaws. When you are done compare how much you have into it verses what a good used one would cost. Or for a laugh what a new one would cost(that you can't work on yourself). Good Luck, Rick

Yeah, I'll do a cost comparison at the end. Honestly almost all of our costs will be in tool purchases I think. But it won't be the last time we use them so that's more of an investment I think. Haha

The threads everywhere are almost gone. We're gonna either buy a whole new spring bolt assembly or just make a bolt on the lathe. Depends what they sell for. This is a low budget operation. Haha

you probably dont know that cat remodled the bull gear and pinion on the cat D,4D four times because of the trouble you have with yours they were not very strong in that erea. at all

I have heard that. The new dozer has the later design so hopefully it will hold up for us.
