Old ATVS Suck! New Ones Are Better? STM Clutch Tuning For Dummies Like Me

I want to agree but can't quite .. :). Just got back from Ride Royal Blue in Tennessee where my son-in-laws 18 year old Honda worked great while my 2022 Outlander 1000r XMR died in the middle of the trail system. No water in engine, no codes, plenty of fuel, plugs fine, no blown fuses, air box and filter dry and pretty, not overheated .... just stopped running. Would crank all day long but never fire. Had to tow it out (after there had be 5 days of rain in that area) over mountains, etc. Flipped it on top of me when the front tires got caught on a rock and steering locked hard right ..... what a day. Took over 6 hours to get back to the road. So ..... some aspects of new are better but .... my recent experience has me thinking.....

I have the mega mayhems on my old Renegade! They work great, but I don't ride in skeg that often. Great info on the STM clutching! I've been saving my money for another new toy so I can't spend the $ on clutches right now...

The thing with skeg is wheel speed is more important than tire lug size. But the Assassinators are the best for that terrain. A new toy? Nice!! We should chat about doing that video idea you mentioned a while back

Like all brands, they each have their things, Can-Am happens to be that rear diff seal leaking and water getting in there. It is what it is and something to live with on a Can-Am. I ride regularly with about 6 guys with Outlanders of various years, all but 1 have that issue.

The grit thats in the mud around here just eats seals for breakfast. I replaced a bunch on my Polaris.

Hey Don, what colour lock tight do you go with? Just the blue?

Yes blue, most of the time. But different colors are rated for different size fasteners.

Is it hard to replace the whole clutch like if I want to replace the primary is it pretty hard to do yourself

No its not a difficult job. Only tool needed is a clutch puller.
