What's better than one AT Restorations video? Two or more AT Restorations videos. Beautiful result and as always, your color matching is perfect.
How in the world did you match the original stain so perfectly? You're a magician as well as an expert craftsman! ❤

Videos like this take me back to my youth. Not fixing chairs and such, but the chairs and furniture at my grand parents and great grand parents' homes. All of it was well worn but sturdy. Sadly, I do not know what happened to all of their old furniture as the decades passed by and we all grew up and had our own children and grand children.

What a treat having two videos in one day. You, as always, did an excellent job repairing this chair. It looks great.
I've saved a few old oak chairs in Athens myself over the last few years, applying your excellent methods (hand tools only, in my basement). The Four-legged Ones salute you!

simple and beautiful. I really appreciate that u did not replace the leather inserts it really helps the chair keep its original feel. So many people sacrifice what makes furniture charming and it come out looking plasticky and cheap.

Is shellac the same as varnish? Another beautiful piece, and I'm glad you kept the original leather! 💙
@melefth2 жыл бұрын
No, it's a natural product. It forms a film on top of the wood, but isn't waterproof like varnish. You dilute it with alcohol. It was the finish of choice in the 18th and 19th centuries, through until the 60s, so the best option for restorations. Most of the wood primers today are just heavily diluted shellac.

When using a square-drill attachment, you must try to initially drill complete holes and not overlap the earlier hole. Remove the “dams “ the last. This will reduce the heating of the drill and prolong the lifetime of it.
