Deftones does have a keyboard/turntable with Frank Delgado. He's a huge force behind their ethereal sound yet his contributions can be very subtle in most songs. He adds a lot to the band in most songs (except some older ones).

Agreed about it being their best album, though in my case it was the album that got me into the band when they released it, so I have some nostalgia and special memories I associate with it and therefore I have a bit of a bias in favor of it. But it really is one of their better works, that I think most would agree on.
@ignorethefashion82
@ignorethefashion82 3 жыл бұрын
Their peak was ATF, WP, and S/T imo. But Diamond Eyes is the best of their modern output for sure. You chose what I consider to be the two weakest tracks on Diamond Eyes though lol. Deftones deep cuts > Deftones singles, generally. Sometimes their b-sides are better than the album cuts too.
@scosstard3542
@scosstard3542 3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree! I think it is their best album as a whole, all tracks are at least solid at best masterpieces. I still put White Pony, objectively, as their best album, because of its influence and the amazing tracks on this album are above all what they have done, but it has also uninspired tracks. Diamond Eyes is definitely Deftones' most solid album, imo

MORE Deftones indeed!! In terms of alternative rock/metal.....I've always considered Tool and Deftones to be THE pinnacle. Tool is the more cerebral spiritual side. Deftones is the sensual right-brained carnal side. And they have a _gorgeous_ propensity to incorporate shoegaze, dream pop, and new wave elements into their sound. It's a rabbit hole every bit as deep and satisfying as Tool. I could list a bunch of songs you should check out, like others are doing. But then I'd just end up listing their entire discography. I'll just suggest.....start with anything off Saturday Night Wrist, Diamond Eyes, or Koi No Yokan. My personal 3 favorites. I first got into them in the late 90s....and LOVED White Pony. But somehow....those 3 albums genuinely topped White Pony, at least in my opinion. That's how good this band is. I think their best albums are their 5th, 6th, and 7th. How many bands can you say THAT about?

Yay! I got notification you posted and I saw it was deftones and was here like a flash, but KZbin said it was blocked in my country for copyright reasons, glad I tried again because here I am enjoying your video. Love this song so much. I think you'd enjoy 'knife party' if you do another deftones song

I'm curious of what your view on Deftones song, Hexagram, would be. It is nothing like Sextape at all but it is simply one of the best tracks. Do Hexagram!!!!

This! Please do Hexagram! Not only is it a frekkin killer track, but it will give you a great grasp on the range of this truly epic band! The artistry! The riffs! The emotion! Do Hexagram!

I don't really think you could go wrong with Deftones. Easily one of my favorites! May I recommend Digital Bath, RX Queen, Mascara, Be Quiet and Drive, Cherry Waves, Kimdracula, Doomed User, Rocket Skates, CMND/CTRL. If you're going new album, I'd throw in Pompeji, Error, Headless & Radiant City.

You might as well explore Deftones as much as Tool. Their songs are all really different and beautiful in their own way.

Great video as always man Few suggestions Deftones -romantic dreams. One of my favorite songs from the band that isn't mentioned often enough Tool-prison sex. Bit of a heads up on the themes here, they're dark. I won't spoil it but thought it warranted a mention. It also is another song from their early catalog you have barely touched Nine Inch Nails-piggy or the wretched. The former features a great and very unique drum solo and the latter combines industrial music and piano and pulls it off perfectly Failure-smoking umbrellas. Failure is what you would get if grunge were inspired more by prog than punk. Also the lead singer has a way with words that paints a beautiful picture. Rishloo. I'm not super familiar with this band but given your taste for prog they're worth a look I could go on longer but I'm afraid I'm already rambling

Maybe check out Around the Fur by Deftones. The song, I mean. It’s a heavier piece of music from them, so you can get the full Deftones experience. One of the greatest opening drum beats in all of music.

Nice one mate. Ethereal for sure, floaty. Chino has some serious swagger, especially on stage. Such a back catalogue of great songs. Check out Lamb Of God's song 'Embers' featuring Chino on vocals.

This song is definitely a serious contender for the most beautiful song on an 8 string. Runner up might be an AAL or Haken song or something, but something about this song, man.

Chino's got a bunch of side projects too. I highly recommend checking out "Palms". Palms is Chino + members from the band ISIS (they were a band before ISIS was a terrorist organization). The same guys from ISIS/Palms have their own instrumental-only side project called Red Sparowes which is insanely awesome as well. It's crazy how much talent is out there and how they inter-mix and collide on different projects.

"Shoegaze" I believe is the genre name of the ethereal type stuff.

Deftones get lumped into shoegaze and in some ways I can see it but only certain tracks and overall, not really.

@@drumorrison7625 Well, a band doesn't have to be locked into one genre man. Pretty sure nobody considers Deftones exclusive to that genre, bc they aren't. But some of their music does fall into shoegaze, as you said. But they're a very eclectic band that touches a lot of genres, and they do it all well. One of my all time favs and always will be.

@@drumorrison7625 chino’s favorite album of all time is My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless record which is basically the album that created the shoegaze genre itself, so the influence and sound is definitely there, but yeah overall I wouldn’t call deftones shoegaze, especially considering their very nu-metal sounding beginnings with Adrenaline that they’ve carried with them and slowly infused their other influences like shoegaze until you can barely hear the nu-metal any more (a good thing imo - it had its time and place but I much prefer the more expansive and atmospheric sound they started to bring after the first couple of albums)
