Either that or it's just YT-BS... when did this music play in the game? This is a promo theme... not a game song. If I'm wrong, please tell me when this is played in the game? This is very much a reveal piece - a PR piece - not a gamer piece. Just my opinion.

@@mht2315 Edit - I'm going to correct my comment and give the benefit of the doubt... As someone who HAS platinumed both games, I have to say this piece is a non-hitter for me. It doesn't even register as being significant. It may have been at the end of the game, but if so, that's noise for 95%+ (my estimate) of GoWR owners. I always watch the credits (in this case 2 of them) and it had zero impact on me (and I'm even assuming it was at the end of the game). Even listening to the piece now, I find it completely uninspiring....that's just my opinion, and everyone can have their own reaction to that. So I don't know if you were responding to me - or if you're being loose with your comments... but if you're saying I hadn't finished the game... my original comment stands... go away. If not, I'm happy to further discuss.

I love that the track playing over your assault on Asgard is not so much epic and bombastic, but almost like a sad and tragic eulogy, because it's not a heroic war, rather it conveys the feeling of "fuck how did it come to this, we didn't really want a war"

This game is the second game in the Norse Saga of God of War and the eighth game in the overall franchise. This track plays during the final battle sequence where all the characters gathered during the journey come together to fight the battle fated for centuries, but now it's up to them to either break fate or fullfil it. Composed by Bear McCreary who did a lot of other phenomenal stuff. I would love to see you react to some of the Greek Saga tracks of God of War, those have iconic choir sections and are really good to get your blood pumping.

Wow! You were absolutely right about the circumstances that music plays in! Arriving at the grand battle field. And it really is unsettling even without the music because the protagonists' plans kind of shattered as soon as they arrived. They were faced with something they didn't prepare for or haven't foreseen. Really awesome that you could tell that from the music alone. Just shows how superb Bear McCreary is. Beautiful and epic soundtrack, all of them! Would love to hear more of your insights for a different song of that album. "The All-Father" and "A Son's Path" are one of my favorites

You will notice it if you listen to any of the big songs from this or the previous game. So this piece was towards the culmination of the game. The main character, Kratos, was prophesized to die at the end of Ragnarok, and as the player, we had no idea how this game was gonna end. So if you listen to this knowing that it has even more power, because the tension it's creating was building our fears that he would die. Bear Mcreary is amazing. The first theme that comes in is also Kratos' theme throughout the two games.

I can almost guarantee other people will recommend Ludwig the Accursed/Holy Blade if they see you do a Bloodborne reaction, which is also a great track, but I feel these two would serve as a better introduction as the game has a drastically different tone to the OSTs you've covered so far.

Hi Geebz, I'm still here! ;) Loving this recent deep dive into game soundtracks, a topic near and dear to my heart. Haven't had the chance to listen the God Of War Ragnarök OST myself yet (still waiting to play the game myself), but if this track and the soundtrack from the previous game in the series are anything to go by I'm sure the entire thing is fantastic. Bear McCreary really did an outstanding job with it. I'm sure you are positively swamped with requests of tracks to listen to, but I'd still like to throw some suggestions in the mix: - The recent Final Fantasy VII Remake had a (Best Score winning) soundtrack with lots of amazing songs, I'm sure I've seen 'One Winged Angel Rebirth' suggested on this channel before which is certainly an epic orchestral track with lots of things to dissect, however since you're also a bit of a metalhead I think you'd get a particular kick out of the track 'The Airbuster' - in fact it would probably be just as good a fit for your main channel, if you ever need an organic opportunity to point people to this channel for more video game music reviews! :) - For some chicken skin inducing music, I'd also like to recommend the track 'Tsushima Suite V. Seiiki' from the game Ghost of Tsushima, it has a gorgeous atmosphere with some really evocative melodies and an absolutely wonderful finale. And since you asked, in Dutch we call 'chicken skin' 'kippen vel', which is a complete, 1 to 1 translation (chicken = kip / skin = vel).

Love the way you apply the emotion or try and imagine the context as it is an important part of the piece but not completely needed. However, whenever I show people a score from an OST sometimes it is upsetting to see their detachment and they are unable to take in the music for its purpose and it is really refreshing to see someone who is passionate and able to absorb the music and it’s intended purpose regardless of the setting and your guesses are always spot on too.

I love the power of music. Be it a game, a film, tv show or whatever product it's incomplete without the score. The emotional payoff is flat without the music. Not only that but music stands on its own without being paired to a show or game because the listener can create the images in their mind. The better the composition the more clear those images become.

If you react to anything else from God of War Ragnarok would love to see Raeb's Lament. It's a perfect score for a funeral at the end of the game. And also Bear McCreary plays the bard/tavern owner in the game named Raeb

You really should listen to the track called “Letting go”, is just the perfect combination of sadness and a truly epic end. It’s by far my favorite OST of GOW Ragnarok.

I alway pay close attention to music in videogames, movies, etc. I'm not a professional or anything, but the beautiful part of the soundtrack of any game, any series or any movie, is that it tells you a story. You can feel the emotion and you can imagine what's happening while the track is playing.

The first time this score plays is when Kratos ( The antagonist) seeks out a oracle type group from Norse Mythology called "The Norns". He seeks their knowledge on the location of his son but is given more information than he anticipated. He is told his son is in Asgard and a Norse God named Heimdall plans on killing him. They tell Kratos that after learning this information Kratos will then kill Heimdall to protect his son and then the "curtains fall" and the earth splits open has Ragnarok boils over to destroy the realms and then also leading to Kratos's death. It is a chilling moment in this game. As he walks away the orchestra grows stronger as they tell him "So sad. I enjoyed your story Kratos. Too bad it has to end so soon." Bear McCreary is amazing and the story telling is amazing as well.

I'd love to see Your analysis/reaction to "The city must survive" track from the game Frostpunk. Recently composers pick it up for the reaction and I can't get enough of it. Great video as always!
