So much going on rhythmically, musically and just down right overall expressionally from what they can produce in one song. IMO this was their Swansong.... pushing the envelope, futuristic track that can never be repeated again (A bit like Rosetta Stoned - Tool....for its time). Nothing has ever been repeated or touched on any later recordings (for both tracks)....but thankfully we have the privilege to be able to go back and just study, listen and damn right admire what was written musically and lyrically to these absolute fucking masterpieces which were written in that time and period!! Its a good time to be alive with all this music from these great musicians....which are still alive and kicking....and we still get the chance to see these bands live!! Because believe you me in 20-30 years time people will be looking at out generation in envy because they were to young or not born to actually witness these extraordinary bands in the flesh. He's engaging his vocal chords too much and if he kept up this style he'd have blown out his voice like Matt Heafy did a decade ago. That's why he's been doing so much more clean singing on the last two albums and why the vocals aren't as loud on Fortitude. Although there's a silver lining in that after recovering Matt's vocals are better on In the Court of the Dragon than they were on Shogun, so maybe the same will be true for Joe?
@98jerda2 жыл бұрын
@@unoriginal_name7091 yeah his type of vocals are kinda exhausting, and for those who started some years ago it was really hard to find a good teacher and/or scientific research on harsh vocals. Even now it's not easy to separate what's reliable and not. I really hope he's finding a good balance for his technique bc they are definitely one of my favourite bands 🖤

Such a good track, and loved your reaction to the breakdown near the end, head-bobbing and stank-face the whole time! And yes he is growling melodically! One of the craziest things I’ve seen live, I don’t know how he does it.

I’ve been on a 2 month long (and counting) Gojira awakening, realizing they are without a doubt one of the greatest metal bands to ever walk this earth, so it’s awesome to see musical experts like Geebz breaking it all down and helping you understand more about the music you know and love ❤️

There was a point where they were all I listened to. Not sure if it was 6 months or longer because time is an illusion when Gojira's on.

For me, it was when I seen The Link (Alive) show. I was like: damn they sound so tight. Later I found out they had a reputation for just sounding really good live. Got to see them live twice, before they toured with Metallica. Which was a big milestone for them of course. 1st in an amphitheater. 2nd at a lounge. The rumors were true.

You make a lot of very apt observations about music. A lot of the ideas that you share make me realize very interesting and profound things about the music I love that I never really realized before. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much for reacting to this song !! :) You might like to work on some old Gojira stuff like Clone, or the "encore" song of Gojira concerts : The Gift of Guilt :) I'm patiently waiting for a The Gathering - Travel decomposition :)

The vocals actually aren’t layered. He is able to do a very tough technique in which he utilizes both sets of vocal chords. It is one of the things that sets him apart from other vocalists. He does it live to which makes it even more insane. Some other good examples is the gift of guilt and born in winter.

Oh wow. I heard of wind instrumentalists singing while playing to create different sounds. But singers singing while.... singing? Wtf
@SniperPrecision Жыл бұрын
He sounds EXACTLY the same live. It's haunting
@NeekoGood8 ай бұрын
Joe has a melodic growl, but saying that they don't do layering in the studio is just false.
@camerongearhart81567 ай бұрын
@@NeekoGood my apologies if what I said was worded poorly. What I meant was that his harsh vocals are not layered with clean vocals under to make them sound melodic. I am aware that there is likely some layering, whether it be double tracking or other mixing techniques, although from what I can tell it is used pretty sparingly.

Lyrics ---> Breathing slowly, mechanical heartbeat Losing contact with the living Almighty TV plugged, hybrid empty brain Don't see anything real in the game The tension is building constantly No reason just a reflex I have, driven by clockwork I try to keep an eye open And I realize I haven't closed my eyes in a long time Neglected emotions leading to catastrophic voyage on the other side I have been given so much stress and lack of confidence I've been given the gift of so small hope deep inside I haven't close my eyes in a long time, I am trying I cannot stomach these forms and colors anymore But I'm here to continue, after all I have been through I try to keep my eyes open, I am realizing This life and death more precious than anything I won't bring no material in the after life Take no possessions, I would rather travel light I'm of this kind that kills all day But I don't know yet how to die Art of dying is the way to let all go Within I practice, in the secret of my soul My shape in the reflector has Now for ever, a life on it's own
