About the growling, it is a spin off to what is known as belting in opera. So they are actually singing, thats how they manage to avoid damaging their vocal cords. But it requires a lot of control because you can damage your cords if you mess up. The fact these guys can tour for months and play full sets without a damaged voice is testament to their singing ability.

I'm late to the party, but on that note about washing the guitars out with reverb: Gojira actually used to stack a ridiculous amount of guitar tracks on their records. Aww hell yeah, another one of my fave bands! Everyone is excited for the new album dropping at the end of this month. Amazonia is a new single off of it, and everyone's reactions are getting blocked. My guess is because proceeds from the song go to a thoughtfully-researched charity working to preserve the Amazon forest's nature and indigenous people. So they are trying to funnel all views to their channel for that. Could also be because, as you said, the project hasn't been released yet. There's more info about their charity thing in the official vid as well as a separate vid just about the effort and on their site. Great tune.
