I've listened to tool since 96 it's infiltration into every part of my life and I'm not ready for fear enoculum so yeah it's a personal journey it's not specific to whatever another person thinks or feels. I don't know when I'll be ready for that journey to begin I live mostly in opiate,undertow,ten thousand days era. It still so much to absorb it's still unbelievably powerful to me and I don't know of a better ideal for living. I cannot even understand what he's saying in the new songs. It's another thing entirely. Those of you who just jump into are wasting your time because you don't follow what's being said either it's miles ahead of what's being understood in the current time line. You can say whatever but really think about it.. the albums are a series of stories opiate is how man destroyed man with false dogma and rediculas ideals that never were the truth undertow is how man destroyed mankind thru trying to put the peices back together but still was wrong and kept destroying everything and then thousand days is mourning the loss of the spiritual and physical lives and what could have been if it was not all destroyed by snake oil sales men past that point it's a long way to go to figure out the message but it's very deep and complicated. The band is Tool meaning their message is a tool to understand and figure things out it's unreal to me the closeness of thoughts and moments Alligned with this incredible experience. If that makes sense to you pay attention things are still to be revealed.. yes his mother too but it's not only about that. It was more of a advanced tool to get deeper Into the sadness and compassion.

I think Danny is a hard hitter for sure. But he is so in control behind his kit. He plays with actual dynamics better than any drummer I've ever heard. He is a true master. A lot of time in heavy music it's just balls to the wall all the time on the drums. No dynamics at all. That is what sets Danny apart from other metal or prog metal drummers. He knows when to go balls out but he also knows when to keep things quieter and let the other instruments breath more. It gives the song more life to the listener.

I wonder why other vocalists don't do the same though - surely someone like Eddie Vedder would have constant bleed from Stone and Jeff and Mike into his mic? I've also heard that yeah, Maynard wants the focus to be on the music, not just him as the singer. ANDDDD... sorry, one more point... I also remember hearing many many years ago that Maynard has some trouble with flashing lights, so he moved to the back of the stage to avoid being temporarily blinded by the strobes and so on.

As a drummer, for me there are lots of delicious tidbits here, but I think my favourite is the fact that the volume of the crosstick in the beginning and end oscillates between pianissimo and forte! (To those who don’t know what that means, watch the crosstick (where the stick is flat on the snare and the notes are played on the rim of the drum… it goes from soft to loud and then fades away)… If you haven’t tried it, certainly do! It’s not as easy as it sounds if your independence is basic because the dynamics only oscillate on the left hand, but not the right. The right is always constant. Then, of course, is the middle instrumental section with the mind-blowing orchestration of what’s essentially Swiss triplets around the kit. Sounds wonderful. I have always maintained that the most satisfying drummers are ones who are able to make complex things sound easy. It’s fairly easy to make easy things sound complex - just throw in more notes and you’re all set. But to arrange your parts in such a way that everything sounds cohesive AND grooves while requiring you to EARN the ability to execute it? Well, that’s why some of these cats are masters. Another great example of that is Vinnie Colaiuta’s work on Sting’s Seven Days. Sounds simple to a non-musician. Try playing it the way he does. Best of luck. 😉

Hopefully when the world finishes melting, Tool will go back on tour and give you a chance to check them out live. I was lucky enough to see them a few times over the years and can vouch, that they're simply amazing on stage. Fun stuff so far (reaction wise) Keep it coming!

I finally saw them back in September last year. Was dreaming about seeing them for like 12 years, can’t believe it actually happened, and right before all this bullshit happened. One of the best nights and best concerts I’ve ever had 🥲

@yallik1544 жыл бұрын
There is no comparison. Tool took that song and completely owned it. In particular the instrumental section, which in Zep just feels kind of wayward. Tool honed it down and translated it into their own language: they *composed* it, where Zep was sorta freewheeling ...

I noticed while sitting in the left hand lane once that all the turning signals appeared to blink randomly, then slow, suddenly blink together and begin to separate. In the universe everything begins and ends with zero, yet the energy is infinite (0=2)... This band captures that.

I love the fact that you are one of very few reactors who caught his mistake towards the end of the song. Bravo sir!! Goes to show that even the best make mistakes. But it's really impressive that he was able to carry on and not lose focus or where he was at in the count.
@mattwilson82982 жыл бұрын
There was a mistake? I'm no drummer or musician so this is all like magick to me. (Well it is magick, but you know what I mean) I didn't even catch him catching the mistake! 🤣🤣🤣
@ambergarner84712 жыл бұрын
@@mattwilson8298 He does! Right about the 15 minute mark of Geebz' video. Geebz clearly catches the mistake because he reacts to it (non-verbally). It's easy to miss because Danny is able to just quickly carry on without missing a beat.
@coma137943 жыл бұрын
I mentioned on your Fear Innoculum reaction video, "bonus points for catching two unexpected outcomes" (at least in my mind). You got one at 15:01. I saw the eyebrow wiggle. I also noticed you didn't point it out, because you're all class ;) The other is a missed eigth note on the ride a little bit before that (I think you were talking at the time). I think he let himself get distracted just a tiny bit because they were all mentally high fiving how beautifully they came in on the transition (the part where he's smiling). He catches himself and moves on. The octopus was human...just for a SECOND. :)

And isn’t it just that which makes a live performance so interesting? I mean, I once saw during an international competition for career-starting classical musicians, which since its foundation is considered one of the most challenging and prestigious competitions for instrumentalists, Andrei Nicolsky play Rachmaninov third piano concerto. He won, although he definitely made mistakes. But the energy and emotional rollercoaster was so intense there was no doubt. If I had the choice between a perfectly played peace of music and a imperfect but emotional performance I would definitely choose the latter. By the way: Frank Zappa, also one of the greatest musicians/composers imo made mistakes during his solos.

Just wanted to say I love your takes. We're probably the same age. I've been a bass player ever since I snuck into my first Iron Maiden concert. Got a 3/4 sized bass the following year for my 13th birthday (that I still have). Grew up on classic rock, heavy metal, blue grass, and outlaw country. Father was a classically trained pianist and guitar player. I love all the new genres. Music breathes and grows and evolves. Thanks for being another gray haired warrior appreciating the "new" stuff. Been binging on your videos for the last couple of days Brother. Hooah (retired Army as well). Keep it up. You have a fan in Texas. Oh, and I had a chance to take in a Jinjer concert. She's amazing as well as the rest of the band. Music is Life.
