The orchestrator is the lead guitarist Christos Antoniou. "Christos studied composition at the London College of Music under the guidance of Martin Ellerby, Head of Composition department. So happy you enjoyed this performance from Greek Symphonic gods! The main composer is Chris the guitarist, he wrote all songs and orchestral parts as he has a shit tons of musical degrees , check on their KZbin channel, there's plenty of short vids where they show all different parts of writing, recording and mixing the last album, also the recording sessions with chores and orchestra.... Chicken skin guaranteed 🤣 many thanks for your dedication, passion, analysis and facial expressions ( a guy should start a channel analyzing reactors faces while listening to new bands 😍). I'd definitely recommend you check out some of their other tunes! This is almost a "Radio Hit" for them in comparison to the rest of their discography. Songs like "The Vampire From Nazareth" and "A Great Mass of Death" both feature great use of the orchestra and feature some sections that are just downright unsettling. Regardless it's still a really cool surprise to see you checking them out!

The orchestra is really on board with the band, I watched this whole DVD and there were a lot of times when the orchestra musicians grooved, headbanged and even threw the "horns"! As to suggestions, if you want to explore more of Septicflesh, I cannot recommend their 2008 album Communion enough, it was recorded with an orchestra, so the mix is even more tight and epic.

This is my favorite reaction of yours so far! This live version is almost note for note from the studio version. Though they don't typically tour with the orchestra, this is the original version of the composition. Many good tracks from them, though you'll find this big symphonic sound more prevalent in their more recent music. Other bands to check out along these lines are Rotting Christ and Dimmu Borgir.

Absolutely love this band, saw them live 3 times, just awesome. That being said, Spiros, the lead singer is an awesome guy he does all the artwork for the band as well as designed the band's logo. The Guitarist, Christos, is Spiros's younger brother and composes all the orchestration for the band. Also fun fact, this band was started as a performance art piece but took on a life of its own and here we are. Also SepticFlesh are considered a "Symphonic Death Metal" band though sometimes labelled as a "Atmospheric Death Metal" band. Most of their later work contains heavy use of orchestrations and other symphonic elements.

This is very good representation of what septic flesh have been doing on record for the last few albums (they do usually play with a backing track rather than live orchestra ) but have recorded all orchestral parts on at least the last three albums with Prague symphony orchestra ( no keyboard recreation like some bands ) so this show is a great live representation of there musics :-)

I've seen Septicflesh live, albeit w/o the orchestra. So good! I just want to plug Epica again. They have two live albums where they feature a large orchestra and choir. The first disk of their album Classical Conspiracy is made up of orchestral classics and movie theme music. Their album Retrospect is their 3 hour 10th anniversary show. It's hard to know where to start, but the closer, Consign to Oblivion, is still, to this day, the song that best captures the 'essence' of the band. Thanks for continuing to share your excitement and expertise with us!

I'm so glad you did a video on SepticFlesh. I was actually at this live recorded show in Mexico City (you can see me in this one actually -_-), and it was SO AMAZING live. You're right, it was taken from the DVD, the singer was actually pretty unhappy about his monitor and they way they had things hooked up for recording and complained he was missing the audience aspect for himself as a performer during the show, but the return on the recording quality was very worth it imo. What you don't see in this video is there was also a choir. SF pretty much always has an orchestral element in their music (I genre them as symphonic death metal). As everyone else already kind of said, one of the band members is actually a composer. They generally record in studio with orchestras/choirs, but this was their first show with those elements live. I love how you pointed out the orchestra members who were rocking out, I actually was watching this one violinist and another choir chick super into it. I think I was more impressed by them than the band when I was there not gonna lie Z(I have seen SF live a few times, but never like that time in Mexico City for this). Was really cool to see/hear you break it down, I like listening, but I don't know much about music in regard to theory etc. I enjoyed getting the opinion of someone knowledgeable. I hope you got to check out some of their other songs. They have so many good ones. I recommend another from this live show where you can also be awed by the choir ;)

Super glad you checked out Septicflesh! I can second most of the recommendations for more songs of theirs in these comments, but something I _haven't_ seen that I would recommend from them is to check out one of their non-metal tracks. They have a few that skip the guitars/drum kit/vocals/electric bass and they're quite good. In the event you don't think they'd be good for a video, they're still worth checking out, so maybe as a casual listen: "Mythos", "Martyr of Truth", and "Dark Testament" are the main ones I would recommend. If you were to only listen to one of those three, I'd suggest "Dark Testament", as "Martyr of Truth" is quite long at 11:37 and "Mythos" is much older, having come out all the way back in 1994, thus not being as representative of their modern work. If I could recommend a different band, one of my long-time favorites is Sylosis, a thrash/death metal band from Reading, England. They do excellent work, and in particular are notable for the incredible riff writing of Josh Middleton, who does the vocals and co-lead guitar, as well as the fact that, until their latest album, all their songs used guitars tuned to E Standard, which is highly unusual in modern metal. I struggle to recommend just a single song from them, so instead, I'll give you a song from each album and you can pick the one you think is the most interesting :) Album - Song - Year - Notes, if any - link Cycle of Suffering - I Sever - 2020 - Only song I've listed tuned to D Standard instead of E, includes my favorite vocal performance in this list - kzbin.info/www/bejne/mounlWCDrNqpma8 Dormant Heart - Servitude - 2015 - Manages to get some interesting perception of speed despite its tempo - the part of the song that feels slowest is at quarter=128 and the rest is at quarter=126 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5C1hWN9adyKgck Monolith - A Dying Vine - 2012 - Probably the song I've listened to the most times on this list, main riff is blazing fast and the vocals that accompany it are very quick as well, which is all the more impressive when considering that they're done by the same person at the same time. Changes significantly over its duration, particularly in emotion. - kzbin.info/www/bejne/aobSnWCsj7N0qpY Edge of the Earth - Procession - 2011 - Strongest "groove" out of this list, and has my favorite intro and main riff in the list as well - kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6uZqZ-ogbCXaq8 Conclusion of an Age - Last Remaining Light - 2008 - From before Josh took over the vocal role; in my opinion the old vocalist wasn't as good as him, so I don't listen to this album much, but the solos in this song are amazing and I still find it a joy to listen to. - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nn6kg6RnrpWDrLs Oh, and for some pronunciation help, the band name is like "sigh low sis" :)

I'm telling you right now. They have way more interesting pieces. Enemy of truth (lyric video, absolutely beautiful outro with choir and guitar) or vampire of Nazareth (live)

Septicflesh! So epic. Another track of theirs I would recommend is "Enemy of Truth." Also, another group I would HIGHLY recommend is Fleshgod Apocalypse. Italian group, composes a great balance of technical death metal and classical music.

I'd love to see him react to one of their songs off of either King or Valeno (Say, Sugar) and then immediately listen to the orchestral version of that song!

So cool you did this Geebz, and I think you figured what is all about SEPTIC FLESH pretty well out. This band in his recent time is all about a truly Symphonic approach of Death Metal (still keeping some Gothic elements though & close to some Black Metal ones as well). It is a indeed a show with an orchestra, but they do use an orchestra for their albums too & you have to check a studio song which will indeed confirm your guess about it. I suggest songs like "Lovecraft's Death", "Communion", "Persepolis", "Dante"s Inferno", "The Vampire from Nazareth", "Oceans of Grey", "Our Church, below the Sea" but also these (with a different approach, less orchestral) a bit older albums : "Virtues of the Beast", "The Ophidian Wheel", "Phallic Litanies", "Shamanic Rite" (mixing Gothic Metal with Dead Can Dance in a way).

I highly recommend 'Prototype' from the same live set. It has big brass rips and they also bring out a child choir too. It is very cool. Well worth a watch.

I am really pleased to see you genuinely enjoying and being impressed by some extreme metal. I am not a Septic Flesh fan, but damn this band is talented and crafts awesome compositions. You should definitely check more extreme metal, some bands despite their violence, compose beautiful pieces of music. Otherwise when you have time check: Dir En Grey - Vinushka it would be awesome!

I agree completely, Pyramid God is popular and really good but is hardly their best or complex orchestra inclusion. Vampire from Nazareth has way more variation, Prometheus way more power to the orchestra instruments and Prototype has basically everything.

@@TheAnimaAnimal exactly all Septciflesh songs are amazing, but this one it's a little far to represent all the power they can show
