I always go back to an old band called Beyond Twilight. Their first album featured Jorn Lande on vocals (and it's incredible), and their last album was a single song in 48 parts or something (also incredible). That's just me though :)

Dimmu Borgir and more specifically their live show with the Norwegian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Check out Dimmu Borgir - Gateways live from Forces of the Northern Night. I love how the orchestral parts are written in it.

The guitarist Christos Antoniou does the orchestration according to the credits in the booklet of this Live album/Blu-ray/DVD and the booklet of the album this track is on. His website says that he studied composition at the London college of music, so he is a trained composer. A lot of their music is written with the orchestra in mind.

I've always been a fan of symphonies and metal. In recent years orchestras have been making some sort of collabs with metal bands, mixing with metalcore, death metal and it has been an honor to my ears. I'm really glad 2 great music styles get together and form such a pleasant experience to the human ear!

This is a good song but if you really want crazy orchestration you need to listen to Enemy of Truth from the same show.

I met Sotiris (the bold guy) in 1994 when they made their first masterpiece-Mystic places of dawn-.You should listen to it. I think their influence was Paradise Lost at the time of Gothic .

There are orchestral only versions of a lot of their music floating around - worth listening to as well. Plus the Intro is a major theme running through the new album.

Band-Maid just released a new song this morning (15th July) but it’s a limited release so it will be removed within a few weeks. It’s called ‘Sayonakidori’ which means ‘Nightingale’. Rather beautifully, it translates as: SA (small) YO (night) NAKI (singing) DORI (bird). kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXjdcoSfnMZ_Z5Y

@@DrumRollTonyReacts Drum, bass and acoustic guitar with vocals from Miku and also some from Akane! The bass was the only non-acoustic instrument in the whole gig, And Akane uses rods on the drums, not sticks. Interesting stuff.

Good open-minded reaction. [ all the orchestric arangements and writing are from the members of the band. The song you heard is almost the same as in the original album recording not an "orchestrical version" (except from the intro). Is part of their original sound and of their songs (not like in the live of Metallica for example) plus, not something that it is added after to the song (like in most cases - if not all - of other such bands. The songs of other symphonic heavy bands can stand without the orchestra - it's mostly like an "added atmosphere" even when only the orchestra plays without the guitars or plays another harmony - in these songs of Septic Flesh no. Even this is the case with the best one extreme symphonic metal bands like Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth, not with Septic Flesh. It is something different, the orchestra is not treated like an "atmosphere on the back" or even an "added harmony" (it's very organic part of the arrangement and final sound it self. One must hear very carefully their songs to understand better what i mean or it will be misunderstood, it is difficult to put it in words (or in few words). There is a subtle but very crucial difference that makes their sound unique from all other symphonic metal bands. It's not like heavy rock + classical music or metal music that wants to sound as classical music - like even the best ones of that kind as Therion. The songs can not stand by alone without the orchestra and vica versa. While in Cradle of Filth - for example - the orchestric parts can stand alone.. Septic Flesh sound it's something new... Of-caurse many that will try to copy them will come out and they already do this or they are very influenced / but most ppl don't know from where this exactly sound or elements originates and they think that these bands is something that play with some different approach or follow a "general stream", while they just (try to) copy Septic Flesh ) ].

I ignored this band for years based on their name, assumed they were another forgettable sludgy, generic death metal band, rotting christ is another example, poor name for what they sound like in my opinion, glad i eventually gave them a listen though

You are wrong.. these guys didnt go there and played together with an orchestra .. They always write all the orchestra parts and always record with full orchestras. This is not "metal" with an "orchestra" on top. Every instrument is very well placed.. that is why the guitars seem so simple.. because they usually are...

LOL ok. I literally read the video description as my source of information on my first time listening to them real time at the start of the video. I think I was pretty clear on my words about combining two different ensembles that normally don't play together and appreciating it when they do. Not sure what else to tell you.

There’s no need to be so aggressive though. Tony is someone that I imagine *does not* listen to symphonic death metal all that much. It’s a learning process especially with metal subgenres, so acting snobby about it really doesn’t help anyone.
