I think this is actually a single version, cut down quite a bit from the original album track, so definitely go check out the full thing if you have the time! I will second someone else and recommend "Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus" next. Or, if you have some time to spare, "Cassandra Gemini" (32 minutes long!). I would highly recommend listening to the full version to get the full peyote effect, haha. Jon Frusciante guest stars to play a guitar solo on this song and Larry Harlow guest stars to play keyboard solo on this song.

One of my favorite drummers (Dave Elitch) was called to try out for this gig when he was 26, and he has a story about this song that I love. TMV is notorious for their wild intense drum parts, but Dave got the gig based on his playing in this song. Everybody who got called was able to shred and go nuts on the kit, but Dave locked in on the groove in this song better than anybody else, and that’s when the band knew he was the guy. It’s all about that undeniable feel, not flash and blazing speed. 3 weeks later he was playing in front of 20000 people in stadiums across the world. There is a drum cam video of him in Sydney playing with ‘em. He’s a beast.

This version you listened to does the song no justice. It was chopped in half. The album version is over 12 minutes long. In the future try to make sure you react to the album version of a Volta song.

Not the versions im finding in searches. Best I found is a different 12 min one which honestly... I regret even bothering to compare them, it was such a non-issue. And it wouldn't hurt to use "please" or "thank you" instead of just flatly demanding things. Just a suggestion.

@@Loctorak I don't think I was rude. I simply pointed out a fact. And I did say he should try to react to the album versions of songs. And if you think it's a non-issue then you should not be listening to music. He missed a lot from listening to the shorter version.

The Mars Volta is a huge inspiration and defined a lot in the scene. For me they're a huge carrier from At The Drive In, they defined so much in my area of music. I'm glad you enjoyed it because they're a band that did themselves early on and took from a originator while appreciating musicality. Than killed it. Love your work, look into At The Drive In.

Duuuude, you're so dang nice to listen too. I'm no one but I've watched about 45 videos and I want to say: don't stop, unless you want to. Keep prefacing yourself. After 45 videos it hasn't gotten old or stale to hear you present your video style, your motivation, your "spiel" is somehow fresh and new every time even though it's prefacing the same stuff. Most of all I haven't heard you negativity critique a single band, though I'm sure there has to be at least one out take of you shutting it down and I'd love to see that;) I'm amazed that such an seemingly formulaic format can be so refreshing in every video.

Hi Geebz! This is actually a radio edit of the song, the original is longer. Also I believe the solos were written and performed by John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers (he and TMV guitarists Omar Rodríguez-Lopez are close friends). Also, the influence of most likely Puerto Rican as Omar was born there.

Hey MAN! I have super appreciated all of your videos and your intuition in everything of yours that i've watched. Given that I'm a HUGE Tool and Mars Volta fan, I feel like you could appreciate a very little appreciated one of my favorite bands, The Melvins!!! If i had to pick a favorite, I would throw in the towel. I think a good example of why I love them so much could be displayed in " The Mechanical Bride" from a later album or something even sooner like, "Anaconda". They're considered Punk, but honestly they are a sound of their own. I'm hoping someone like you would appreciate what they do. I can't say enough this band and how much they have influenced my life as a music lover.

Saw TMV livea few times, but there was a particular show in NYC they played for about 4 hours, way longer than anyone expected maybe themselves included, and their energy did not flag over the course of the whole show. There may have been some ...ugh...external help with that during a short 10 min break in the middle. Such an amazing live show, progressive jazz psyche punk.

Hey Geebz, love the content! I suggest you check out the band Consider The Source. They are a three-piece instrumental prog rock band from New York, but with deeply eastern influences. They're a little under the radar, definitely not as popular as some of the acts you've been checking out, but no less worthwhile. Especially the songs Closer to Home, Enemies of Magick, or Moisturize the Situation. Production is a lot different from some of these high-tech groups. They do a lot of live pad work, pedals, etc. The guitarist uses a dual neck guitar where the top neck is a fretless midi controller, allowing for plenty of groovy sounds and semi-tonal work. The bassist is a masterful slap/tap artist. They're just so much fun. Hope you enjoy!
