I've got a number of these planes that I haven't gotten around to sorting out yet. Yours is one of the best restorations of a wooden plane I've seen in a while. Simple, easy techniques with an excellent end result. I agree with your ideal of a sympathetic job, after all the tool IS over a 100 years old and should look so.

Many thanks! There's not a lot to these old planes and no need to complicate things. That said, I'd love to upgrade my sharpening system - that's a lot of work with these old thick irons! 😄

Thanks! It's a delicate balance between what to restore and what to leave, but I enjoy the end result. And this plane is surprisingly good to use!

I think the main reason why people like these planes so much ie the way they cut is due to the thickness of their blades, in the old days things were made to a standard not a price!
