Fun fact- The Grieving was actually IN a Gumball episode. It was part of a shorts compilation and the whole joke was that they showed the title of the episode, and then a narrator in the background listed off a bunch of content warnings for a really long time, then when the episode actually played they just trolled the audience with a dancing dog. A truly iconic moment I don't think is talked about enough.

Oh man, I remember that! I had never heard of the creepypasta at the time, so I had no clue what was going on. I was so freaked out by all the warnings, like "Those who have watched this episode were never. Seen. Again." I was terrified, but also curious. Then the dancing dog showed up and I was honestly kind of relieved.

As a legally ordained annoying internet Melvin, I am obligated to point out that Steamboat Willie was, in fact, NOT the first cartoon w/ synchronized sound. While it is the first to have an entirely post-produced soundtrack, Fleischer was making cartoons with primitive sound-sync as early as 1925.

Can't believe someone actually knew of Normal P for Normal People. It's not a Creepypasta you can casually recommend, but from what I remember it's the vagueness and how real it felt, especially for the time when the internet still felt a little bit like a jungle, and you could find weird sites with lots of links that lead who knows where.

I freely admit to always having had a guilty pleasure for old, cheesy creepypastas. I'm sure if I went back and read something like 1999 or NoEnd House, I would find they're nowhere near as good as I remember them being, but they remind me of a simpler time, when I would be on my phone in art class reading these stories instead of doing my projects. The fact that characters like Slender Man have been poisoned by the internet (and also by that one real-life attempted murder) pains me greatly because I still have a lot of unironic fondness for them. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug

Butcher's Block and The Dream Door were actaully also loosely inspired by Creepypastas, but they changed the names from the titles of the original stories, so, there's definitely less recognizability. Butcher's Block was loosely inspired by "Search and Rescue" (though pretty loosely inspired), and Dream Door was, I guess, inspired by a creepypasta called "The Hidden Door"

I hold that Jeff the Jeffer occupies such a large space in the pasta sphere because you can project whatever you want onto him. You want a slasher guy, boom. You want a hot animu guy, boom. You want a guy who murder bully for justice, boom. The backstory and aesthetic are the only thing you need to keep, everything else is just whatever you wanna throw in there. And ironically much like a creepypasta they pulled the scene from future airings so it's like seni lost media, I mean the clip isn't hard to find but nick probably won't ever release the original version officially

The thumbnail is probably meant to reference that,it looks more like the Easter Egg from the episode than the OG one.

I am so happy that they're coming back! All of these pastas are my favorites! Especially Happy Appy and Jeff! I plan on releasing and making my creepypastas too! My first couple of them are Cannibal Courtney and Xander the Slayer! The Decaying Frowner and The Pool Employee are a couple more of them!

It was most likely a coincidence though,I think someone found an even older creepy pasta involving a Sonic with black eyes but it was a SSB Brawl creepypasta rather than a Sonic creepypasta.

My favourite piece of creepypasta media is Scott the Woz's video about Polybius. I like the personification of this grand conspiracy as a living arcade cabinet in a video otherwise full of Scott's usual wit. I don't watch a tonne of creepypasta vids, can you tell? 😅

I have so much nostalgia for creepypastas. My early, and mid teens were full creepypasta content. I used to follow the 2 top narrators, used to watch all of Hoodohoodlum's lists, used to follow some of the serialized ones like the "Holder" series, ect. It was a good time. I'm glad that there is a bit of a resurgence in these classic spoopy stories. The one I've kinda been following recently is the search for the original versions of the JTK and Smile Dog pictures. Interesting stuff

There's this analog horror channel that I find interesting, it has a series called "Tele" which is a fictional cable provider that started in the 80's that has some AI that messes with the shows and commercials it airs (which sometimes even ties in to some creepypastas), this even later extends to games that are provided through some service that Tele provides (though the evil AI is represented by a spooky face, which can be a problem depending on who you are). The videos are honestly well-edited imo, with my favorite being one set in the 2000's where the AI shows viewers shows and channels from the future (at one point when it goes to CN showing Gumball, the UI has the logo from The Grieving which is a nice touch). Even the EAS community has crossed over with creepypastas with one doing an interesting take on Red Mist, told by made-up news broadcasts and EAS alarms, where the episode was made to warn people of an actual red mist that ravages a town in Florida and, like in the episode, makes people kill themselves when looking at it.

Fun fact, the “scary” red smile dog is actually the original one, made by the creator. The original red image looks so strange because in the actual story, Smile Dog doesn’t look like a dog. It’s just some sort of weird demon thing and the closest thing anyone can compare it to is saying that it looks vaguely like a husky. Midnight Krick actually interviewed the creator, who said he might release the assets at some point. Nobody has any idea who made or posted the grainy, more husky-looking one- an image I personally find deeply unsettling, lol. Nobody knowing where it comes from kinda adds to the creepiness but I do hope they eventually figure it out.

SUPER cool fun fact, the performer who played the life sized/adult sized versions of the skin taker in channel zero is performance artist olivier de sagazan, who is also known by the creepypasta fandom as the "test subject" in the gateway of the mind video!! his whole creative story is incredibly interesting and for all of channel zeros flaws there was a lot of love put into it with the nods to other online horror at the time :)

I came across this video as someone who's gone deep down the rap battle rabbit hole. And I think I could provide some perspective on it. Rap Battles and creepypasta may seem like a very odd mix but I think it actually makes some sense especially if you know how it got its start. They are both elements of early 2010s fandom and it would be inevitable for them to cross paths at some point. One of the first notable ERB inspired channels was Epic Rap Battle Parodies, which you show in your video. The channel itself used Slenderman and Jeff the Killer in it's first season, 2 creepypasta characters that are also well known enough to justify using them. At the end of ERBs second season they made Rasputin vs Stalin, which is the first rap battle we now call a "royale". A rap battle which features 5 or more rappers going after each other. With those 2 facts in mind, season 2 ERBP would create Slenderman vs Jeff the Killer, the first "creepypasta" royale. Featuring several other rappers. Very popular upload that would open the floodgates for other channels to follow suit. This is what created the aforementioned Squidwards Suicide vs Dead Bart. 2 weeks later, the same creator would go onto make Epic Rap Battles of Creepypasta and the rest is history. I think you hit the nail on the head for what makes these videos interesting. These classic ones are rough, but that's what makes them enjoyable to watch. Personally, I started watching these ironically but grew to appreciate them sincerely as time went on. I was far from the only one, too. They have quite the cult following for this reason. Something interesting I want to hone in on is that, these rap battles actually could imprint on the original stories and how people view them. "How could you represent Username 666 in a rap battle?" Is a question with a different answer depending on who'd you ask. There isn't any clear way to do it, which surprisingly makes it PERFECT for rap battles as it lets the creator use their own interpretation of the story in a creative way. The formula is the same as it ever was, yes, but requires originality in how they use said formula and the limit is ones own imagination. Squidwards Suicide is an example that comes to mind for me, as the character has essentially been warped by rap battles into this verison of Squidward that wields a shotgun and will fk you up at the slightest inconvenience. Some of these interpretations have garnered wider popularity and been the basis for fanart. Happy Appy, again, has been used a lot in rap battles and effectively carries the characters relevancy. Creepypasta is integral to the fanmade rap battle niche, as long as people make ERB inspired rap battles creepypastas will be used as well. It's just one of those things. The scrapped sequel to Squidward vs Bart has actually become a shared hyperfixation of my friend group and we began working on our own finished "edit" of it just for fun. Really there's something about the videos that for many inspires them to go and make something of their own which is why so many people did exactly that. It's effectively outlived cringe culture and I'm proud of it, it's bizarre and I love the bizarre

I feel the episode Jerry from F&C has some of that creepiness from those kinds of old creepypastas, the part that really got me was a split second frame, which was even explained at the end of the episode as why it was such a brief image, and also it has a very brutal death, even if there is no gore. I like that episode, it was creepy for me and I think that's very cool

I’ve been in the fandom since I was 11 years old and still it’s a thriving fandom with ever so occurring viral videos on TikTok. The KZbin fandom of Creepypasta has pretty much left but I’m happy to know at least TikTok still has a fanbase full of memes, cosplays, fanart and headcannons. I’m a proud member of the Creepypasta fandom and will always be ❤

My fave part about Red MIst aka Squidward's S's is that it was so influential and RAW nickelodeon animators made it an official universe in an episode of Sponge Bob where they were opening doors to alternate universes and realities, the episode is "Randomland" and they feature the infamous Squidwards with realistic tears.

If official companies allowed for Lost Episode adaptations to be made on Syfy. I'd love to see how Dead Bart would've panned out. (I'm honestly surprised that Treehouse of Horror hasn't parodied that story yet. It feels like the perfect place to include it)

granted i havent read it in a while but i remember candle cove as being a genuinely rly good bit of ARG-type of writing. it was written as a forum post asking if anyone remembered this and disputing their mom saying that they weren't ever actually watching anything but static as kind of not like written as The Big Twist, its just told as a fact of the story that the OP doesnt believe is true. also as a note the wind in the background of one of the songs towards the last half of the video kept psyching me out thinking there was actually wind whistling in my open window LOL
