“When the lives of 6 teachers and students were snuffed out in a couple minutes at Covenant School in Nashville, I knew I had to speak out, and so I sought every opportunity to do so. I wrote the song ‘Louder Than Guns’ and recorded it just a week after the funerals for the slain. Before we recorded the track, I carved their names in my fiddle - Hallie, Evelyn, William, the three 9-year-olds, and Mike, Cynthia, and Katherine, the three educators. I dedicate this song to them because I swore when the shooting came to Nashville I was going to work my hardest to make it the last stop on this runaway train of murders, gun violence, and terror. I stand up not knowing the answers as to how this will be done. I am a musician, not a politician. But I will use my voice from now on to demand the change our communities deserve; won’t you join us in Old Crow Medicine Show and take a stand in your community, too?”

I saw OCMS in Pilot Mt., NC last week. As much as I always enjoy their shows, THIS song stood out from all the rest, along with the spoken message that Ketch shared with the audience. Overall, this was probably a "pro-gun" crowd, but Ketch was not deterred from sharing what was on his mind and in his heart. I was proud of and touched by these lyrics. I hope this message will get through to those whose minds and hearts are more committed to their possession of assault weapons than to the welfare and safety of our children.

Unfortunately the politicians have made guns a divisive issue. I think Ketch like most (hopefully everyone) are blatantly tired of the unnecessary killing of school kids, often very young ones. It would be great if gun rights advocates came forward with solutions and compromises instead of just pointing to the 2nd amendment and resisting any changes to common sense gun laws. We dont blame the car when someone dies from a drunk driver. The tool used to kill is irrelevant. A hammer can be used to build a home, or kill someone, the hammer is not to blame. Murder is already illegal and has been for awhile. Lets start upholding the laws that are already in the books before we start adding more. @@andyyoung6246 this whole “blame the person not the tool” argument is antiquated and repeated like gospel. Luckily, the founders allowed things such as “amendments” to our constitution and had the foresight to include language like “well regulated” in the 2A so that our laws could evolve along with the times. No-one is complaining about the sale of muskets. Let’s just use a little common sense and work on some solutions.

It is the # of occurence 's we see today that's the issue . Guns will always kill people , but the mass shootings are unprecedented. Unless strict laws are presented we are at risk. . These AR 's are rididiculous. Many kids today , are not raised to respect their or others lives and aren't taught better better coping skills. They lash out without thought it seems, we see it in our adults and examples are passed on. .
