I cleaned out the old piece of crap boiler and flue pipe at an old house I rented before I bought my house. Used a shop vac and a screwdriver and I dropped a burlap bag of bricks up and down the chimney a few times. I am NOT and hvac tech but it kept it going. I did have a guy who is an hvac tech come and set the draft and replace the nozzle and all. So glad to have gas heat now

if the boiler is sooted you must take it apart and clean it good ..then start over a boiler has to breath to run properly .. new nozzle lean out the flame . with a good oil flow and spark. set up properly with a clean boiler is the key..
@invujerry3 жыл бұрын
@@stevenlavimoniere that’s what I ended up doing. Cleaned it good a second time, new nozzle, checked and cleaned the igniters, double checked the flow, and then leaned it out pretty good. Only had one small hiccup where there was a little water and sludge in the tank. I watched that video where you went to the low temp call house and showed me what I needed to get done. Thanks again for the videos, it’s a lot of help for a broke guy like me.

Back in the 70's and 80's my dad's house had a oil burner and we needed to clean and vac every year. Come to find out the oil delivery guys, who incidentally also serviced the boiler were installing huge nozzles and setting it to run rich so they could charge to vac and clean every year. When my mom went to work for a plumbing and heating company as a office clerk I started hanging out with the service guys and found out about this scam. They want to sell more oil and get the service $. The plumbing/heating company setup the thing right and I think my dad went 5 years without a brush and vac and then switched to natural gas boiler.

what causes them to soot up like that, just the air gap area clogged up?
@bnasty2673 жыл бұрын
Yeah, too little air, mostly. Can also be a bad nozzle. A well-tuned air/fuel mixture and a good nozzle usually doesn't make much soot. A smoke test (or better, a combustion analysis) is the minimum to make sure the burn isn't too rich and sooty. I always aim for leaner rather than richer. Yeah, you lose a bit of efficiency with a leaner burn, but you lose efficiency with a richer burn when it gets all sooted up.
