Hi Paul, I've seen the video you referred to in Mark's channel. For anyone who wants to know the whole story your advice is spot on. With regards to your house build I am going to suggest something that perhaps you thought about. Greg, the gentleman in Mark's video with Jen has built a lovely house, I think he even made a KZbin channel about it, also Mike's Philippine Retirement just recently interviewed another expat who finished building a very large house I think somewhere in Dumaguette. My point is these two expats have gone through the whole rigmarole of building in the Philippines from buying the land to the finished house, If I was you I'd get in touch with at least one of them and offering some compensation for their time kind of employ them as a sort of building/construction manager. Given that your build is smaller than what they built they should be able to manage this in their sleep saving you from the inevitable pitfalls of building in the Philippines. Just a thought. I remember Mark saying that he didn't care what happenmed to his body after death and that they should "throw it in the trash". He was a wise man, and was trying to think about his remaining life, not about his death. He encouraged his viewers not to worry about what happens to us after death, logically it's irrelevant. That's not the same as not worrying about the loved ones we leave behind. I expect Jen will want to spend a fortune on Mark's funeral and grave.

@BrettPower I'm just going by all the horror stories I've heard on KZbin and a few expats I know personally. I get the reason they do it, it's almost instinctual to want to own a place but man the hassle. I'd probably just buy my gf a condo in a well established block with a good history of sales and maintenance, sure it's not a house and land package but a lot less headaches.

Paul, based on your comments about Mark having everything taken care of with Social Security, I assume that Rogan has his CRBA and Rogan's Social Security benefits are "in process" with Jen as the payee nominee. That process can take a very long time. We are still waiting for the process to be completed for my third child who is 19 months old. We started the process even before he was born 😊😊

I was watching Marks channel and it is sad about his passing away. I gather that he wanted to live the rest of his days in asia. My best for his wife Jen and their son. I hope Mark had arranged for his financial arrangement to be set. My condolences for sure.

A guy can build a very nice small concrete block house for under $20k us dollar with local workers. It is important to watch them everyday, otherwise plans go wrong, or they can get lazy.

Paul, Thank you for your grownup comments about Mark. You, Mark, and Sweet Pea have been the ones most helpful in getting me to the Philippines six months ago and I appreciate you all. Mark first asked me to do an interview three years ago and thankfully we got it done six or eight weeks ago, soon after I arrived in Dumaguete. Mark was always straightforward and helpful to me and I feel the loss of a friend. A year ago, I was going through your journey of cataract surgery and healing. Mark was like most of us- positives and negatives: great interviewer, seemed to genuinely care about Jen and on the other hand someone who has reinforced Dumaguete being referred to now to as Dramaguete.
