Interesting finish on that one Yves! Did you put a clear coat on it or anything?

Nope, nada. Initially the client wanted to paint it. Now they want to keep it as is. They will add some wood putty in some cracks and then it stays as is. A clear coat is a good idea though.

If only all paint could be removed as easily as that. But then again, then all paint would be chipping like crazy... 😅

True. It was an inferno of various layers. Up until that gray layer which stayed on for now. Everything that is still on is perfectly paintable-over (is that a word?) So if they ever want to paint the door, its simply a matter of slapping some paint on it.

@@ProjectsandThings Definitely a word! 😁 Things that old are just layer cakes of paint - to get it to completely bare wood you'd have to plane away half a centimetre with all the bumps and scratches that are filled with generations of paint....

@@CrudeButEfficient yes, and I tried/failed and then stopped doing that :)

@@ProjectsandThings That sounds like the try/fail cycle of a sane person... 😁

there are some products to put on painted wood so the paint can just be scraped off instead. the small remaining paint can be easily sanded off afterwards. ("afbijtmiddel" dus ;) )

Thanks man, I’ll look into that because this door kicked my butt. Next time-> chemicals or off to the sandblaster
