These are my husband/family pleasin Chicken N Dumplins'. My family perfer the slick, thin and chewy dumplings which is what I make for them.

I do not have a heart shaped pan...it has a pour spouts on each side and someone thought it looked heart shaped...but its not. I cook from the heart...but not in a heart shaped pot. Sorry to disappoint yall.

Reminds me of my mother mother (my grandma) of course my mom, my sweet mother-in-law and now myself. I see many jugs, bowls, Tupperware etc that I now have in my kitchen. I just use Jiffy All Purpose Baking Mix. No need for anything but the broth and they turn out GREAT! I also cut in strips but cook longer and add the shredded chicken back in. Yuuum.

My Mammaw used to make homemade chicken and dumplings. I remember being a little girl and sneaking to the table to snatch a few of the dumplings before they were cooked. She passed last fall, and I never had the chance to learn from her once I was old enough, due to her illness leaving her unable to physically do much. I was nervous to watch this video because I figured it would bring up a lot of emotion, and I was right.. but it’s such a good feeling. You’ve brought back a little feeling of my Mammaw to me. I miss my mamaw so much.. she pretty much raised me and she passed away in 1999 when I was 21.. it rocked my world and I still have dreams about her.. im absolutely convinced that she visits me in my dreams. But, this lady makes them just like my mamaw used to make them and i'm happy that I found this video. My husband’s family is from DE and they do the same kind of “dumplins”. Like slick noodles as you mentioned. They don’t add eggs and many don’t use baking powder either. Loved watching you bang that all out f-a-s-t! Would love to be right in your kitchen to learn from you. Love that bowl!

This is how I make my chicken and dumplings, but like a couple of ya'll, I do not add eggs or the baking powder and I let my broth cool some before I roll them out. Can someone please tell me the purpose of adding the eggs and baking soda? I may have to try it! But you know when you've been cooking for 45+ yrs, it's hard to change- "If it ain't broke, you don't fix it!" I was raised on a farm and grew up on all homemade cooking and baking. I love this lady. My grammy Faye taught me how to make pies, bread, best cooks are the people back in the day. 😍 I love the old fashioned life style. Grew up packed water from spring house, for everything. Wow! There is so many different ways to make dumplings! Some are roundish and some are noodle type! My great Grandma made them with a lil lard ( depression days) flour,salt and water. So many different ways- made with love- and all delicious I bet!!

I make mine the same way, but I do roll my dough out in advance and allow to air dry before adding to my broth, and I use warm broth but I do add a large can of Cream of chicken once I have my both for the dumplings....makes it so creamy good. I roll mine really thin also. love yours also, with a thin broth. Thanks for sharing.

This is the best version of true "southern" dumplings I've ever made! One note, the first time I made it, I kneaded the dough too much and they were a little bit tough. Knead them exactly like Rita does in the video, no more. :)

I enjoyed watching! Reminds me of my mom and her people. Just ole country Cooks! We make dumplings the way you do... Use chicken broth instead of milk, but, I'd say we use a little more baking powder, and I sprinkle a lot of the extra flour on top of my dumplings, and I push the dumplings down instead of stir, and that broth thickens with that sprinkling of flour.

Makes me remember my grandmother. Her father's people were Pennsylvania Dutch and she cooked a lot in that style. The best thin cut noodles. Pastry! She made a potato salad with a cooked sweet and sour dressing. I make it, too. I'm making chicken and dumplings today, but cheating with Bisquick drop dumplings.

Rita, I love your style! You get the job done without a lot of fancy. The dumplings you make are what we call "slickers" back here in the mountains, and a lot of folks make them that way. I prefer my dumplings to be egg-sized and fluffy in the middle, but I've been known to enjoy a plate full of slickers every now and then. Thanks for making the video!

My grandma would make this without egg and baking soda..everything else the same. We grew up with this and called it poppy.. Everyone in my family still make it today. It's been pasted down now 4 generations. Mmm good. I smother mine with butter salt and pepper we eat it on its own in a big bowl.

I would love to have a video of my mamaw making dumplings (or anything else). This one is the next best thing. Been making dumplings myself for years for my hubby-he likes them very thin and not poofy so I don’t use eggs or powder but otherwise this video is exactly how my mamaw did it. Watching her confidence in the kitchen brought back memories of watching my mamaw. Thank you!
