I remember my mom making this about 70 yrs ago. She would grind the ham & onion up in one of those clamp-on metal grinders back in the day :-)

There was a small meat market in our town who took the ends of Bologna, ham, salami Etc and ground them up with pickle, onion and mayonnaise. Made the most delicious spread.

I used to eat this at my grandmothers house in the summer for a cold sandwich. She was pleased, as a kid, I liked it. She also made me a butter and onion sandwich. You'd take a bun and put read butter on it. You take a vidalia onion and slice it up and let it get cold. Then you put a cold slice of onion on that buttery bun (or bread) and have a buttered onion sandwich. I'd say 52 yrs later, I am still eating them!

I do it with hot dogs too. Cheaper than ring bologna and they go on sale frequently in the summer. I stick up on the cheap ones to make sandwich spread year round.

My grandfather used to make this on Saturday and we would have it on toast on Sunday evening. He would put the meat through the grinder, follow it with onions, boiled eggs, and a few sweet pickles. Mix it all together, add mayo, and viola!

Looks good 👍 We're getting ready to make some ham salad in our Hamilton Beach Stack and Snap food processor which we've had for a few years and haven't used yet because we moved and it's been in a box in the garage since 😏. We're making about 4 lbs of it for a Christmas get together tomorrow at my mother's. We're going to use half Kentucky hickory smoked ham and half baloney. We're experimenting...

During Pheasant Season at my dad's Uncles, 100s of people would show up my Aunt must have made 1000's of pounds of this stuff to feed all the hunters at lunch that opening weekend. Also as a Kid in the 80's and a teenager in the 90's you could find this at the local gas stations, now days all I see is tuna or chicken salad sandwiches. It is odd because this is FAR better than both.

Might want to rinse the ham off first, i ruined MANY salads because ham was TOO salty, Learned my lesson after few tries, DONT salt until everything is done, chances are you wont HAVE to use any salt.
