Feed all the wax to the bees by leaving the bucket of caps outside for the bees. They will clean the wax to be very dry. You can melt what is left to save if you want or just dump it wherever. Bugs and wild life will eat the wax. Cold water rise the bucket outside. Wax comes out better with cold water. Wipe dry with paper towel.

It’s just so satisfying seeing, and hearing, how your harvest the honey. The sound of scraping the honey off the capped frames was so evocative of years gone by. The finished product is such an amazing sight. I wonder if there is a fairly simple way to reuse the wax for candles?
@jonathanwallace67463 жыл бұрын
I think if you heat up the honey, the wax floats to the top, you can skim it off for candle use or making your own wax wraps to use instead of cling wrap!

I found my flimsy.plastic bench scraper was exactly the width of the frames. I lined my bucket with a paint strainer bag (2/$5 Lowe's), scraped each frame into the setup then wound the bag up and rested it in my mesh honey strainer and set the whole thing on a table in our warm garage to expedite. We got 3.5 gals to share w family and neighbors. We have an extractor we haven't bothered to use - I don't relish that cleanup and your method is so easy and efficient. And yummy, too!

To clean up wax n honey things try leaving those items for the bees to clean n recycle. A sunny day or 2 they may clean it off really well.
@leannekenyoung3 жыл бұрын
Yes! That’s what I don’t understand why people that are honey robbers don’t realize that if they put all their tools and containers that have honey and wax on them that the bees would clean them up in no time just put close to the hives and the bees need that to keep them warm over the winter. So I would think they would realize that their work of cleaning everything could be minimized in a few short days if left to the bees. 🥰🙏🏻🇨🇦
@1870s3 жыл бұрын
These are the supers, we did not take any honey from the bees brood boxes, all honey frames and buckets are placed outside for the bees to clean, but often times there is wax bits leftover. Our warning was for folks that might be unaware of the dangers or rinsing wax down their drains.
@79PoisonBreaker3 жыл бұрын
@@1870s yes drains n wax = bad idea lol. I had a thought since wax is much lighter than honey, would it be a idea to heat the sticky mess you scrapped to the wax melting point then cool it. Wax should float on top then and be easy to peel off n make candles 🕯that clean the air wile they burn. Great job u guys have lots of perfect honey, hope next year provides another great bounty👍🍻🇨🇦

If you shake those uncapped frames and nothing drips out like the consistency of water you can extract those frames. The water content is okay, they just capped it yet. Also we set our stuff outside by the beehives and let the bees clean them. They will take any leftover honey back to the hive.

Jeff Horchoff Bees on YT has some great videos. He renders and cleans the bees wax and then melts some in an old crock pot and uses a foam roller to build up the wax on the trays. He says this gives his bees a headstart on producing the honey and not having to rebuild the wax combs. :)

As someone who is ignorant (unschooled with limited knowledge) of beekeeping and honey harvesting, it seems that it would be easier to just heat the honey/wax mixture just enough to start melting/separating and then cool as you would when you separate fats from liquids. This seems like it would be less labor intensive and be both easier and cleaner. Or does the heating of the honey destroy some of the antibacterial or other beneficial properties?

@@1870s OH NO!!!! Lol!! I didn’t know that!! Ewwww! Guess we’d be surprised if we knew how many bugs we eat. Since it is a small amount and you’re not in a time crunch it would have been better to uncap and then let it drain out of the cells. Best of both worlds. You get the honey and the bees don’t have to start over from scratch to rebuild.
