Visual gag suggestion that seems up your alley: Camera shows you meticulously indicating something into a 4 jaw chuck. Zoom out and you see it's a pencil. You take a tapered cut to sharpen the pencil, then pull it out of the chuck to sketch out whatever you were actually going to show.
@mannys91304 жыл бұрын
I love it. AvE would definitely do this right after saying "What's the point of having the balls of a bull moose if you don't swing em around a bit?"
@lopezepol754 жыл бұрын
I have actually thought about starting an artisan pencil sharpening service. Pencils would be sharpened on a treadle operated stone for maximum hispterness. 25 buck for a resharpen and 50 for an initial grind. Give me a week or two of lead time and you will never have to mess around with one of those tedious electric sharpeners again.
@inscept84854 жыл бұрын
Why would you pull it out of the chuck and lose registration? Just unscrew the chuck, do your pencil work, and put it back in the next time you need to sharpen.

@atomicwinter313 жыл бұрын
I've only ever cut wood with a metal lathe, and lemme tell ya this. Use rounded hss cutters. I found that insert bits and other types always cut too harshly, and tend to split the wood or make it explode out the lathe. Ive almost died from that lol, too deep of cuts with a cutter, it launches out of the lathe and goes BANG

Tony, I needed a deburring tool, a lifetime and two countries ago, to take burrs off large copper coaxial transmission cables. Nothing like that was available and my pocket knife didn't hold a workable edge for long cutting copper. Long story short, I had a 10" triangular file in my tool box. Triangular because you can cut square, rectangular or triangular holes with one file. Round, not so much. Anyway an appointment with a smooth concrete step, some water and elbow grease and the last inch of the file also became a deburring tool. That was about sixty years ago. That tool has, if I remember correctly, never been resharpened and it's done thousands of coax cables, plumbing jobs, lathe work before I got a Noga type, and its now back in my carry tool box waiting to cut my way out of whatever mess I end up in next. Thanks for the video. Best wishes for the Christmas season to you and yours from Canada's banana belt.🤞🇨🇦🍌🥋🇺🇦🕊️🇺🇲💩☃️👍

@Hellsong894 жыл бұрын
Remember that it does not matter if your files are dull, you can still sharpen them with ease using for instance citric acid. I went trough all the old files in garage and it was done in two weeks with actual work time of maybe 30minutes over all for washing the removed metal off, drying them with paper or hitting them quickly with a torch and then oiling them. Only ones with serious damage like trying to file hardened stainless steel that rip the whole file surface out, or are covered in paint or such are lost cause. Long as there is still teeth around and you can clean them from crap so acid can do its job you are golden.

My triangular deburring scraper was salvaged from a file tang and a 3 1/2" section having 5/16 flats. I hollow ground the flats on a Gorton cutter grinder 6" wheel. Retaining the last 1 1/4" cross section I thinned the body using gentle arcs to a point. Aluminum was lathe formed to just cover the tang for a tapered handle, small at the front gentle arcing to end with a 9/32" radius fit my hand. Constructed in 1976, I still have it, retired don't have a Gorton to re-dress the hollow grind. Small work would use the front, larger work could be muscled with thicker cross sections.

Cool tool, super useful on a daily basis. I have one that i inherited from grandpa tool box. I am a carpenter, I keep that tool in my bags and use it every day. know one has ever claimed to see one before, I have always thought it was home made too. mine is smooth on all three sides and about half inch thick on all three sides and comes to the same point. as well as has the same handle but chrome collar. it is virtually indistructable, as i have used it to score tile and rock, debure all types of metals, chisel through all types of materials and be beaten on with a hammer thats hardened to at least rockwell 55C hardened. and it still holds its edge or will only need a few strokes of the hone stone and it is a sharp as knife again. its great to see its origins, it all makes sense now. grandpa was a machinist for McDonald Douglas Aircraft before i was born.
