This is probably what growing old feels like. Your generation, the people that you grew up with, all passing away, and you're one of the last ones left. I find this to be very depressing. I think that this is how my grandmother felt before her passing. Although she never showed it, I could sense it. I'm only 43 years old, and I'm already feeling the world is passing me by. I feel like our current world is not the same world that we grew up in, and it isn't. It is kind of depressing, at least for me it is. I've already lost a few cousins, gone too soon. But life and the world around us continue. It just goes on without ever a flinch... and we are left to mourne until our very own passing.

Wish Floki had his own series. It truly upsets me how underrated many of the actors on this show are, this show's seriously given me so much perspective. Even watching this now, Floki's words drive a dagger into my heart. I can feel everything being described, it's truly opened my mind to the beauty of this culture. Makes me almost wish I could've lived during a time of such faith, we may "live" better then most of these people had, but imagine how much more meaning comes with a life like this. The absence of knowing anything, a world where everyone believes in God or Gods, in the world we're in now. It's almost like all the magics gone away, and we're left with beautiful projects like this. Left with a yearning for more, for something else.

I hated him for ages after Aethelstan as well, but once he was tortured in that cave and lost his child, he definitely re-evaluated his perspectives on life, I started loving him after that. I easily forgive people even for really effed up mistakes. But only when they acknowledge they effed up and change for the better, then I met the past stay in the past. Because when people don’t reflect and change, the past usually cannot be left in the past, because they keep repeating or justifying doing stupid or disgusting behaviours. Floki became a very loveable wise old man in the end.

That's how it feels to get old. I never understood older people when they said "This isn't the world I grew up in anymore" I always wondered why they didn't just keep adapting. It's because eventually as you keep changing you realise you've left everything that matters to you behind in those changes, piece by piece, until there's nothing left of you. You won't understand this until you're old and give yourself time to reflect but when you do the whole "changing with the times" bullshit comes crashing down. I love Floki's character because he's simultaneously as batshit crazy as it's possible to get but also deeply embedded in the purity of his culture. Amazingly well written character.

Such a hard hitting scene, for me it’s almost like when Ragnar was killed ( for Floki it would’ve been Ragnar telling him “I love you” before he left on his final venture to England) that’s when Floki’s world started to crumble. Such a shame to see one of the greatest characters describe such pain
