Brilliant. I have been on it many, many times. Used to go from Widnes to Runcorn every week with the school. We used to go swimming in Runcorn swimming baths when the Widnes baths (actually the ICI baths) closed and before the baths opened.

ICI baths? Not sure what they put in that water. Takes the skin off you.

Part of an old poem by Marriott Edgar about the Runcorn bridge ; In days afore Transporter Bridge were put up, A ferry boat lay in the slip, And old Ted the boatman would row boats across, At per tuppence per person per trip. Now, Runcorn lay over one side of stream, And Widnes on t'other side stood, And, as nobody wanted to go to either place, Well, the trade wasn't any too good.

I travelled on the transporter many many times with my dad on motorbike with sidecar with mum me and brother and sister we used to love it That was in the mid 50s onwards, going to visit family in Barnton Northwich
