Old Forester 1910 vs. Woodford Reserve double oak

When I started about 8 months ago I really like the 1910 over the WRDO but after getting used to the proof I really enjoy a the 1920 so much more! Cheers

I haven't tracked down a bottle of the 1910, in my area in NJ. I enjoyed the Woodford DO, the tobacco and leather notes were delicious. Cheers!

Catching up on older episodes that I missed. I like both of these but love OF 1910 a little better. I had Peerless Double Oak a few weeks ago that I enjoyed, but it is more expensive than the OF 1910 and Woodford Double Oak. Would like to pick up a bottle of the 13th Colony Double Oak when it is released in the Fall. 🥃

I dont care to drink bourbon neat, I could pour 2oz. of Widow Jane The Vaults 14 Year Old Straight Bourbon Whiskey @ $259.99 a bottle into a glencairn and it wouldn't change my mind at all, I dont think It ever will so most video reviews dont pertain to how I drink my bourbon, but I do like some occasionally over a 2" ice cube that I let sit for a bit first but almost always in an old fashioned. The nose on both are the same to me (bad sinuses almost always) except for the slight ethanol I get on the 1910 that I didn't get on the WRDO, and it caried over to the palate on the finish with the 1910 also. I do prefer the WRDO and its about $8 cheaper. 🥃Cheers!

OF10 dissappointed me in my first tasting and simultaneous comparison to WRDO. Will be going back to compare again to see if OF10 can redeem itself. WRDO is excellent and the only thing going against it is the lower proof and superb availibility which i love as is, but OF10 seems to have much more hype just being much harder to find. If I had to pick only 5 bottles to live with, WRDO would be in there with the OF20. Not the OF10.

I've heard the 1910 can be tough to find in some markets. In MN it's available everywhere. Totally agree on the 1920, one of the best bourbons on the shelf!

@@TheBourbonNote I'm also really impressed by the SagamoreDO Rye. In our parts both the OF10 and OF20 show up about once a year on shelves and disappear within a week or two and usually that's it for the year. State owned Liquor distribution has its' pros and cons. Not super imaginative selection year round and premium pricing though not to secondary levels by any means.. usually the good ones cost about $15 more than MSRP South of the 41st.

You guys should have done your homework. The 1910 is not double oaked per say. 1910 is based on the original mash bill that was used in the 1900's. Part of Old Forester burnded down in a fire in 1910 and as a result they could not bottle bourbon that was ready so they stored that bourbon in the very chared barrels that remained after the fire. Today Old Forester makes that 1910 and then finishes it in Alligator chared barrels to represent the bourbon of 1910. The 1920 is suppose to represent the Prohibition period. Old Forester was one of the only distilleries to remain open durring that time. The bourbon was used for medicinal purposes and it had to be 115 proof.

We put the 1910 in a "double oak" category with Woodford double oaked because they are both aged and then transferred to a second barrel for additional aging. Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching!

1910 is absolutely double oaked. Nothing they said was inaccurate.
