The 1910 and 1920 are definitely the standouts of that series. I lean towards 1910 because it just tastes more well-rounded, but 1920 is perfect for most Bourbon drinkers in the States because people love the higher proofs. There's also a popular thing here where they mix the 1910 and 1920 together, call it a 1915. I've never done it but it's supposed to taste amazing. Cheers!

My palate has really been enjoying the Whiskey Row series lately. I have now had 1897, 1910, 1920 and quite recently got a store pick from Craft Cellars. Normally 1897 doesn't appeal to me but I'm really pleased with it. In a blind with Maker's Mark OF1910 wins all the way through.

@@WhiskyNeighbour I may have been ambiguous. I don’t know if the Store Pick is an 1897 base. I doubt it. I don’t actually know what the Store Pick is but it is really high ABV and I am excited to open it soon.

I also got the 3 pack for Christmas. I drank all of the 375 ml bottles and loved them. I ended up getting 750 ml bottles of 1910 and 1920. I liked the 1897, but not worth paying double for it compared to the OF 100. My favorite is the 1910, but keep hearing of people mixing the 1910 and 1920, calling the blend 1915.

Great review! I am hands-down, 100%, a hard-core fan of Old Forrester 1910. There are so many outstanding bourbons that are available in these times, but the Old Forrester 1910 (IMHO) is the cognac bourbons.

Great to see you reviewing these side by side! I have tended to lean 1910 in the past though more recently found it leans increasingly sweet as the bottle opens up, and I’ll be curious if you find the same. I do think 1910 offers a bit more complexity but they’re both greats bourbons and I think I reach more often for 1920 these days just given the desserty-ness of the 1910, which of course has its time and place. Agreed with the chocolate/espresso/leather notes on the ‘10! Cheers Jon, excellent review as always.

Hi Jon! Great video and great review! I alway enjoy the whiskey row series from Old Forester. I eventually want to do an experiment where I blend one bottle of 1920 with two bottles of 1910 to make a 100 proof bourbon we could call “1915.” I love both whiskeys and am curious if blending them would have a synergistic effect to make an even better whiskey or an antagonistic effect that could ruin the whole experience. Perhaps one day I will finally try this experiment:) Love your videos! All the best, Brian

Curious if you found any difference in the 1920 w/ the old bottles, v. the new one. Some reviews have insisted the new Whiskey Row expressions are significantly different than the older bottlings. For myself, I wish I could say I was smart enough to have held on to a bottle of the old stock, to do a side by side with. Also curious if you have tried the OF Single Barrel, Barrel Strength. Its roughly $30 more in my market, but I think well worth it, despite the minor profile shifts of a SB. Cheers.

I have the 1870, 1897, 1910 and 1920 (as well as Statesman and UK Bartenders' Single Barrel 001) and it is really difficult ranking them. I did note for the 1897 "Nicely medium; a solid OGD equivalent", so - even though it (or the 1920) would probably come last most days - I wouldn't say I'm sorry I bought any of them... I haven't managed to get the 100 proof over here yet and I can't remember what the 86 was like.

Interesting, Jon. I think I need to blind them too. I just find I don’t overly like double oaked/toasted. Woodford, Elijah Craig, or 1910 just haven’t been my jam. But the Michters toasted sour mash sure is. At the moment, I wouldn’t replace either the 1897 or 1910 once they’re gone.

Yes. I picked a bottle of 1910 up on whim when visiting Buffalo and brought it back to enjoy here in Ontario. I had heard good things about 1920 but nothing about 1910. Price drove the decision. The first few times drinking it I was underwhelmed and felt it reminded of a Canadian rye. About a quarter of the way through the bottle it came into its own and got better and better. It went from being “meh,” not really recommended to “great” highly recommended get one if you have the chance. Cheers.
