I'm 43 and have been in the fandom since '96, and yeah. I also don't go to any cons and such, too many "youngins" (to use an old man term) look at you like the creepy old guy. So I just lurk and stick to the greymuzzle groups these days..

I agree with you! We shouldn't judge an old fur just by their age! They are our gray muzzles, and they made the fandom live before us. If they weren't there, there would be no furry fandom! And this is awful, because I wouldn't be as happy as today if the furry fandom didn't exist!

To my knowledge, the furry Fandom used to be a branch off of general nerd culture, I believe what we know as the furry Fandom became a thing around the late 80s/early 90s. For anyone who wants to know more I recommend checking out uncle kage's history of the Fandom.

I'm 36 and have been a furry since I was about 15 when I met a wolf and tiger. I love this fandom, but for an older fur it can get a little overwhelming with all of the new blood pumping into the fandom. I think it's great, and I love being able to have a bridge that connects young and old the way our fandom does. But you're right Pocari. Some older furs are intimidated by the younger ones and even looked down apon. We as a group need to band together, young and old, and help one another. Also, people have dressed as anthropomorphic animals since the late 1800s early 1900s, but it wasn't until the 1980s that the term "furry" came about and a fandom was born. Much love! (Also I'm constantly being confused for a horse, but I'm a Dragonfox!)

I know a really nice artist who goes by the handle Old Rabbit and he's in his 70's, nearing his 80's I believe, and he's really nice. Granted he's been outspoken about his dislike of the Trump administration since he took office but that's just him being a human being. He's nice, supportive and he's always been a good friend to me. I myself am a Furry and I'm 36. It feels awkward when trying to get into things and there's all these kids around but hey the youngfurs keep the fandom alive. +old lady voice+ Ah ya durn kids with your new youtube channels and your fancy fur qualities and following eyes.In my day fursuits weren't so tight and form fitting. They were baggy and the eyes only looked in one way.! Now beat it before I shake my cane at you. All kidding aside I think older furries should be welcomed as much as the pups. It's just that we have jobs and we work and I'm sure many have family duties and can't exactly take the whole fam out to a furmeet. Or maybe we Greymuzzles should just secure our own little section to toddle around in? Like a furry retirement home XD

I'm not Pocari, but I'll offer my advice anyway, in hope that its helpful too. While you are certainly quite tall for a child of your age, it might still not be 100% save that you avoid the risk of outgrowing your suit. If you are male (or have tall relatives) you might not have reached your final height, yet. And puberty is also likely to change your general shape, so you might stay the same height but the suit won't fit in other areas. Waiting a couple more years might also give you an opportunity to get a better suit, as you can save up more money.

I was about that height when I was your age, but I still grew to be six feet tall. I'd wait it out, there's a chance you're finished growing, but if you end up growing six inches you'll be out a few thousand on a suit you can't wear any more.

I may be late, but I know your struggle _eagh_ My girl (my icon) is still unnamed. My best advice is to come up with names and see what sticks. You could even come up with a single adjective and look it up in a bunch of different languages (actual Old English and Celtic is cool) to see if there's anything to inspire you. (For her its been "Mira" but I don't really like that name and I have no idea why that's the only one so far that feels right for her.)

I'd not Pocari but I'm answering anyways xD My boyfriend wears glasses and had to get contacts to fursuit in, however I do know that some makers are willing to work around glasses and make heads a bit bigger so you can still wear them. Might not be the safest thing for your glasses though ^^'

Heyo! I do mask making ( not exactly furry stuff but close) and I can say that as long as you talk to your maker about it it's no big deal to get a mask designed to accommodate glasses. I wear them myself and have several personal masks that I structured to fit with my glasses. I just ducttaped a set of cheap sunglasses on the Styrofoam head I was using as a base!

Some people sell version 1 of their suits after getting improved ones because they don't have a use for it anymore, or maybe it has lesser quality. So, they will change small design aspects on the suit and sell it as its own character. That way they can keep the art, original character, and not have a twin running around!

the 'wearing a fursuit to the colour run' thing reminded me of the time a few years ago that my dad asked me to make him a partial suit to wear to a mud marathon since we were all doing 'rockstar' dress up (he wanted to be 'steel panther') my mum and i whipped up this reasonably garbo black panther head, tail, and gloves for him to ruin running through the mud haha. so many wanted photos with him tho and it was good practice making the suit!

Aah! I'm so glad you like Maskimals too! I got mine recently from Wal-Mart and I named her Icee. I wear her with my long-sleeve plaid shirts, long blue jeans/khakis, boots, gloves (grey or black) and (also Wal-Mart) tail and cuffs. I have bought a few of the Maskimals. (A Black cougar, and Pug-like Dog versions) Ventilation wise it seems, comes only from the eyes which are quite large on most of the masks. Just breathing normally in it make it hot within minutes of putting it on. But when that happens it is easy to remove the head. I am actually using it as a way to slowly build of my tolerance for when i get my own fursuit head.^ - ^ And by putting a small bit of cloth on the eyes you can test out different vision levels if you want.

Awesome video and thank you, Pocari for addressing grey_muzzles in the fandom. Truthfully, I wish there were more of them in the fandom. I've been a furry for about 9 months, but at the age of 31, I kind of feel out-of-place. Thankfully, many furries at my local meet are in their mid-20's, but I kind of feel exasperated at all the ones I find online that are 10-18. Having younger furs is great, since they are the future of the fandom, but an older furry like me would feel more comfortable talking/hanging out with people around my age, or older.

I have a Maskimal, to be specific: a panther. I’ve had it for about a year now, and yes it is very plush inside. I haven’t worn it for long periods of time, but it does get quite warm quickly and depending on the eye shape, you may not be able to see much. (Although it may vary depending on how well you can see normally) But you can kinda do a few little tricks like spinning the head around while wearing it to make the illusion that your actual head is loose

I have two maskimals and they are really good. You don’t sweat and you can breath fine. Maybe it’s because I’m in Canada! But you should get one
