I'm otherkin and the definition of it is actually an identification as an animal, spiritually or psychologically! It is not in any way physical and we don't think we are physically animals haha. We know we are 100% physically human. A lot of people think otherkin means "thinking you are animal" but really it is just a spiritual or psychological identity! ^^

Some identify as their otherkin type because its their past life yes, but others might identify as such because of physiological factors and simply being this animal internally, what is called a physiological otherkin.

People love to give otherkin flack for being different or trying to be "special" but its all a matter of perspective, the belief in spirituality, and understanding your identity. So in this sense, I kind of understand their belief. I, myself, have struggled with my identity but having found otherhearted (which isn't otherkin but has similarities to it), I feel more at ease with myselt. For a while, I was content on just being a furry. But then later on, my affinity for anthros grew into becoming an extension of who I am. Hence why I identify with characters, creatures, and animals. However, in my case, having PTSD from an abusive household, I use these things to cope with the daily frustrating emotional roller coaster I am trapped on. It's given me clarity into loving myself more and rejecting the mindset that I'm worthless, the mindset my stepwitch drummed into me. Having creative freedom in the furry fandom has opened a lot of doors for me and having the freedom to be myself once I know myself is awesome, too.

On the otherkin thing. It either spiritual, mental, or phsycological the majority are spiritual. And we don't identify as human spiritually but physically we do. Also it's not a thing for furries it's it's own thing, though someone who's a furry CAN be a therian (and vice versa) not all therians or otherkin are furries.

The spiritual part is wrong. Otherkin is the belief of reincarnation. If you believe you are a non-human creature in a human body, that has a different name. I can't recall it right now, though.

#QNA Every time I pull on my fursuit head my balaclava pulls down over my eyes and makes it really tricky to see. And even if I pull it back up it migrates right back down as I'm suiting. Any advice for this? Thanks! And as a follow up question since my suit head is lined how necessary are balaclavas?

Safety pins~ I usually have my Balaclava safety pinned to my under armor so there's no way it can go in front of my eyes. And pinned some of the back of the balaclava together so it's a bit tighter on me

I have been a part of the therian community for roughly four years now, and while I must admit that some of us (especially the youth) can sometimes take things too far, many of us are just regular people. We understand and accept that we are human! That's what I did, my mom wasn't as against it, but she still thought that all furries were old creepy men. Which I tried to explain to her was not true. She didn't so much as 'ban' furries from the house but she made me feel uncomfortable every time I mentioned them because she would look at me like I was weird. So I stayed in the fandom, but kinda low-key. Now I'm 20, out of the house completely and have made 1 head and already starting up on the next one! (Which I've already told my mom about) Hope this helps!

Hi! I know I'm not Pocari, but I'll answer this for you. On most fursuits, your middle and pointer finger are sharing the same paw-finger. Basically you have the pinky, index, and thumb in their own separate parts, then your middle and pointer finger sharing the fourth paw-finger.

As a Therian (a subgroup of otherkin) I almost had a heart attack when I heard that. Bring a Therian/ otherkin is an identity, just like how LGBT is. We aren’t overly obsessed furries, (although some are in the comunity). We identify as the animal from birth (either spiritually (as I do) or physiologically) it’s not a fetish or kink, we know we are human, it’s just that a part of us is another animal

I have recently finished my very first partial fursuit, and long before it was finished I was planning on wearing it to an annual “trunk or treat” my neighborhood holds every year before Halloween. im a otherkin, well actualy theriun, u see when i see any thing that dangles i swat it as if i was a cat especialy if it makes noice. the thing is my mind is of as i do it im not thinking i cant pay atention to others or atleast as well and i only stop if someone comes up to me or something else distracts me oh yeah and did i memyion i cant help it

interesting story about long tails, when I went to my first con, I had my kangaroo partial (Idris) so of course I had a big floor draggy tail. I heard someone call me so I turned around quickly and my tail knocked over a few folding chairs while getting caught on one of them. I turned around to fix it and I knocked over a few more chairs. I pulled the chair off managing to knock over afew more chairs. I then sat there awkwardly surrounded by a bunch of sideways and knocked over chairs... you can only try for so long so I gave up and left. I probably looked so ridiculous running around in circles after a chair stuck on my tail. the lesson, always watch out for chairs... they are out to get your tail...

Apparently people can't get the definition of otherkin and therian right. A Therian is someone who identifies as a non human earthen animal either spiritually or psychologically but not physically. Otherkin is someone who identifies as non human. Otherkin is an umbrella term that includes therians, plantkin, mythkin, fictionkin, etc. Otherkin are not just mythical animals!!! Not all therians and otherkin believe in souls or reincarnation so if you think therians are "someone who has an animal soul" then you are wrong!! Furries and therians/otherkin are not the same thing but you can be both. We know we are human and most of us would not act like an animal in public. Last bit of info, not all of us are wolves, I've seen deer, rabbit, rat, cockroach, etc therians so no we are not all wolves. I've been awakened for over two years and I'm a respectable community member so trust me on my knowledge.

otherkin don't believe they are literally physically an animal. otherkin is a spiritual belief. otherkin are people who believe they have a non-human soul and/or lived a non-human past life. not all otherkin have animal kin types. there's also divine kin types, mythical kin types, fiction kin types, alien kin types etc. though generally only otherkin with an animal kin type will use the "therian" term. otherkin is not an offshoot of the furry fandom and otherkin isn't a part of the furry fandom. it really has nothing to do with furry. of course there are furries who are also otherkin but those things don't go hand in hand and aren't really realted. there's also copinglink or copingkin and otherhearted which are different things.

Being a furry at a non-furry con - creates fear for many, but seems more with the young furs. I find that a lot of people that go to anime cons love seeing furries. I work for a con in Michigan and as a furry I try to be a solid advocate/role model as a furry to show others we want "you" here
