My personal opinion, you want hollow tines for your aeriator. In the home lawn you want to open up the profile and remove material before top dressing with more desirable materials. In the golf course world when we build a 20 to 24 inch dee profile of prescription materials we determine what is in that profile. At home you take what was there to begin with. Obviously you have servicios and top dressed several times so you have improved it. But in the home setting you are only compacting the undesired materials. In a golf course you can do that with small solid times to increase air flow. But at home you want to remove with larger holes and replace the material. I would suggest airefying in multiple directions or a different direction each time.

Saw a quick video this morning of an aerator that looked similar to yours. They were aerating a putting green but it had a box type of device that collected the plugs as it went. Just kinda dragged them along not really picking them up but looked like it would help with cleanup.

The tine holder blocks have 9/16" holes yet the bolts or studs are just 1/2", maybe that's why the defectors get cracked if they are able to shift? It might be plausible to press in 1/32" wall cylindrical bushing sleeves in the blocks' holes to make them a close fit over the bolts (or studs) so then it's more solid. 2 bolt (or stud) holes on mine were damaged where helicoils were used, (I didn't notice when I bought it) which is fine but those threads are only 1/2" deep or so not 1" like there is depth for originally. If I remove the helicoils and follow that now larger threaded hole slightly modifying the thread with an M14 x 2.0 pitch metric tap, I can use 14mm studs or bolts which is almost 9/16" and the blocks would fit nicer onto them. The two damaged threaded holes had bolts, whereas the rest are studs. The Toro parts diagram shows studs, lock washers, and hex nuts. I could just replace the bolts with studs in the helicoiled holes, at least the studs won't need to come out if I want to remove the blocks at all. When I removed the bolts they were hard to turn out and scored, I don't like the helicoils but somebody I guess overtightened the original threads them at some point that's why they are there. They didn't bother to put studs back in after the coil repair. Mine came with odd split tines that are like a hollow tine but with a divider so it splits the core in half, they seem affective only on certain conditions they seem like they get clogged up easily, so I ordered some large alloy 'spoon' side eject tines with a relief slit they were also also called fairway tines there was only shown one kind and diameter for fairway, I just rotary mow high enough to let them lay and they are recommended in regular soil.

I’ve got the same unit only it’s about 8 to 10 years older than the one that you have, are use it on Bermuda grass in Florida, I just recently had to replace the main drive belt. It was kind of a pain in the ass as the whole mechanism needs to be timed. I should’ve probably recorded a video on it but I didn’t. I found your channel when I was looking at your sidewinder mower as I’m looking for some larger property and will be needing a larger mower. I found a used one in the Fort Myers area with 70% real life left on it for $1600 but it needs a lot a lot of work. Have a good fourth just subscribed to your channel

if you can guarantee no boulders at places then get the ninja tines, if not the solids are fine, not the best, but fine and will be more durable to boulder striking. other wise hollow core tines will drastically bend or bust off from my experience with my 36" ryan golf course aerator hollow cores don't hold up against hardwood tree roots, bend or get dulled flat fast on softwood tree roots. solid tines just get dulled a bit.

Hey Connor. Great videos. My brother and I have been following you and picked up a used Greens Aerator and brought it back to life. Great machine. Have you downloaded the Operators Manual and Parts Guide yet? They are super easy to find and get for free. The Operators manual is a great help with getting to know how to operate the machine. Helped us out big time. I'm now in the process of trying to download the Service Manual for it. I've found it on a couple of site, just haven't found a downloadable version yet. That said, I was wondering if yours came with the frame/height gauge or if you've found one yet or maybe the dimensions. Our Toro Dealer that is allowed to work on these told us they are no longer available and to make our own off of the dimensions. I've been trying to find the dimensions but haven't come across them yet and was hoping maybe you had and could share.... Thanks...Brian

Have you ever thought about taking something like those spikes for the aerator to a machine shop telling them what it's for and getting some made usually would be a better quality steel and I have found sometimes it's not that much more then the ones you would just buy or maybe even the same price or cheaper

If you don't mind saying, what did you pay for the machine? I have a putting green that I've been coring manually the past 3 years but it's painful twice a year. I also needle tine it which these machines can do as well. I splurged on a topdressed instead of an aerator as I use it more often but an aerator is next.

@@lawnrebel darn, you got a heck of a deal then if it works without you putting another thousand or two into it. They're tough to find operational for under $2500 where I am at least. I had one in the fall that I demoed and it did an amazing job. I've got connections in the superintendent world here so I'm hoping a country club ends up buying new equipment for this season and I can get a good deal.
