There was a lot of “good” history though too (and I won’t even go into how fascinating the plantations were themselves-there’s a reason many states have bought these up to preserve their history). Though slavery has always been wrong, and all races have been enslaved and abused, it wasn’t considered wrong to many in this culture, but still, many slave owners had compassion for their slaves. After the Civil War, many slaves didn’t want to leave the plantations, and some of the plantation owners even _gave them land of their own_ so they and their families could stay if they wanted, and of course, they were paid wages. These Plantation owners could have hired new people, but they didn’t, and they gave their former slaves security with land ownership. Some slave owners also taught their slaves how to read and write even though the law forbade it. Many gave their slaves weekends off as well as two or so weeks a year. Again, though slavery is horrible, and none of these decent gestures make slavery okay, it’s heartwarming to know that genuine love also existed between slaves and their owners and that many slaves were treated with decency, care and respect. I hope this was the norm for all slaves in history. I do wonder what percentage of slaves (of all races) were treated with decency. I do think (and hope) that most people have good hearts-and many of those people in the south helped the anti-slavery efforts, helped slaves escape, help hide them, etc. In the end, we’re all just people, and we should have love and respect for everyone.

Such as guilty by association, this is the Greek Revival and italianate-style sometimes mixed with federal architecture. Just because some planters used it doesn't mean the architectural style itself is inherently or intrinsically bad or evil. Look, Hitler was an animal lover, do we hate animal lovers now? Me personally, I think you may be overreacting just a little bit. Even with the awful history that is associated with the Era this architectural design comes from, you can still appreciate and enjoy the style that these houses provide. I personally love this style house, but that does not mean I condone anything colonial Era history has shown.

I’m super impressed with it. I love the architecture style they incorporated and all the wood work and how they made it their own. It doesn’t need to be an exact replica. It is charming with lots of character-not at all like a boring, new house. They did a spectacular job.
