Old Guns, Helmets and Accents

Brought to you by Jake Wardle at www.jakewardle.com. At a shooting range in the mountains of Italy; I had the opportunity to combine my talent for accents with my passion for history. Whilst shouting my usual nonsense in different accents (with some added historical firearm facts this time), I shoot a load of old weapons. Some of these guns are older than both myself and my grandparents combined. I also got to wear some antique helmets and hats to further help me to get into character. (As some of you may know, I already own the Soviet hat).

The American accent was just right on with how a typical soldier would sound-kind of laid back and small town-it made me happy for some reason; well, it makes me laugh out loud and of course it's because we love our soldiers :)

I winced every time you shot. A rifle needs to be firmly handled, especially pushed in your shoulder/upper pectoral muscle in order to absorb the recoil with a bigger part of your body, and not just get violently slapped by the stock.

The Italians called the Carcano "the humane weapon" because of its lack of accuracy. When I was a cadet I fired the SLR (which is a variant of the Belgian FN) and I was the only member of my cadet corps to hit the target that day in a falling plate contest- we were hammered by a rival team. The sergeant called it a "desperation shot" whereas I like to think it was aptitude.

All that is missing is a Japanese part and a French part. A Type 99 rifle with a Japanese helmet. And the French MAS36 rifle with a French helmet. Hopefully you can recreate this again with the Japanese and French rifles. But overall good video.

The FN FAL was known as the right arm of the free world. The Royal Small Arms factory taken the disign and changed it. Magazine, catch and cuts is different, the sights are different height to each other, pistol grips are different, the FN FAL was select fire and the L1A1 was semi auto only and the L1A1 is measured in inches while the FN FAL is in metric. They may look the same but in character there is actually quite big changes

I used a Zoom H4N for the sound. Great piece of kit! It can be mounted on top of a DSLR camera. You have to sync up the sound during editing though but it’s easy to do.

Very entertaining video, since it’s nearly 5-years-old, not sure if you know by now, but you definitely got to lean more forward when you shoot because you are leaning back which is causing the recoil to push you backwards. You’d fall straight on your ass if you were shooting a full auto shooting like that lol.
