OLD GUY SHOWS HOW TO INSTALL DRAIN PLUGS!
Us old guys know how to install drain plugs in your Twin Troller X10. Even though I do not have water trapped in the hull of my boat I will install drain plugs to show how it is done. Newer Twin Troller boats come with drain plugs already installed but older boats like mine did not. Owners that want to retrofit their boat to get trapped water out of the hull can easily do that with the aid of this video. The drain plugs are inexpensive and very available. Come watch and learn so you can do this to your boat also.

Another great video Gerry! I also sealed around my motor plates but when trouble shooting my hull water penetration I noticed one of the motor grate holes penetrated the hull so I also sealed the grate fastener holes with sealant when I replaced the grates. I was also the guy that added the same kayak style drain plugs below the water line in the back of each hull pontoon. I regret that decision now as I noticed they actually leaked a bit. I solved that issue by adding a hose washer to the removable part of the plug. All good now!

Bob, I could not remember who installed the plugs in the back. Thanks for responding and giving us feedback on doing that. I also sealed the grass screw holes, just in case. Gerry

Thanks Gerry...Your suggestion worked perfect. I used a 7/8 hole saw and dremeled to to a snug fit & piled on the Marine sealant....Worked great, even though i had some high anxiety drilling those holes. Thanks again.

Another great video as usual Gerry. My boat came with drain plugs 2 years ago but liked how you caulked all around the motor plates and will pick up a tube of the 4200 at one of our local Marinas. I would not like water inside my boat but guess getting it out wouldn't be impossible and knowing how to search for the leak would be easier thanks to your video. Steve

Steve, you have one of those new fancy TT's with the new fangled drain plugs already installed! I wanted to be cool like you so I added the drain plugs myself. 🤣 In my opinion there is no other way for water to get into the hull after doing the sealing that I did in the video. I do not have water in my hull but I was always wondering if I did or could get some in the future. Gerry

Gerry, your videos are always helpful and great instructional tools. I don't believe I have any water in my hull, but I will probably install the plugs just in case I ever have a leak. One question. I've seen another owner's video that shows he installed similar plugs, but put them at the very back (stern) of each pontoon. You mentioned that you spoke with Frank about the plugs before installing them, did he say why the location you used is preferable? I believe this is also the spot where the plugs are installed on the new boats by the factory. As always, thanks for the great "how to" video and tight lines from North Carolina.
@LunkerFishing
@LunkerFishing 4 жыл бұрын
James, Frank did not mention why they install the plugs where they do however I would have to imagine it would do a better job draining the hull if you tip it on its side and the plug is located in the center like they have it located. If I remember the one that is installed on the back of the pontoon was below the waterline and could be a source of water intrusion all by itself so I think FREEDOM ELECTRIC MARINE would have put lots of thought into where the best location to install the plugs is so I am staying with their judgment. Gerry

Gerry could this be installed below the waterline? Big boats have them below as well. water pressure shouldn’t be extreme due to light weight of the TT
@LunkerFishing
@LunkerFishing 2 жыл бұрын
Russell, big boats have a thick transom to mount things like that. Once you perceive the skin of the TT you find it is hollow inside and not as thick as other boats so the drain plug would have little to make contact with. Gerry

Gerry, thanks for all your vids, very informative. Question, have you made a video showing how you get your boat, on your trailer, as you did in this video. My boat is coming, and I will be putting it on the trailer myself.......thanks again .
@LunkerFishing
@LunkerFishing 4 жыл бұрын
I believed I show that but cannot remember what video it is in. Connect your trailer to your vehicle and crank it up as if it was in the water at a boat launch. You may need to get the TT higher up in the front so it can slide on the trailer. I did not show it in this video but I got it on the trailer myself another way. With the TT on its side I put the trailer right along the back side of the TT. I lifted the nose then rolled the boat onto the trailer then carefully lifted and slid the rear sideways onto the trailer. Not the easiest way to do that. Gerry

Jerry thank you again for a great video. My TT doesn't have any drain plugs. I do like the location that you used to install them. I was wondering if the new TT's have plugs, where are they located at??
@LunkerFishing

Rich, I placed the drain plugs there because that is exactly where they are on new Twin Trollers. Yes, all new TT's have drain plugs already installed. Gerry

Another knowledgeable video thank you and I would like to ask you do you prefer the new prop over the skeg I was wondering if change it over thank you for the reply
@LunkerFishing
@LunkerFishing 4 жыл бұрын
Scarecrow, I prefer the left hand pitch prop over the original prop and the metal keel. At first I did not see much of a difference but after the first few times using it I started to realize there was a difference and I liked that difference. The old metal skeg used to hang up on things like twigs and weeds and until it was gone I did not notice how much things were hung up on it and the skeg did little unless the boat was moving at speed. To answer your question, I would install the left hand pitch tomorrow if I had to do it all again. Gerry

What size hole did you drill for the drain plug opening?
@LunkerFishing
@LunkerFishing 3 жыл бұрын
Kerry, The bit does not say on it so I measured it to be 13/16". You can also drill smaller and file the edge until it is large enough to insert the drain. Your gasket will seal any minor imperfections. I hope that helps! Gerry
