Old hand drill Zbrojovka - Restoration

A drill : is a machine tool designed to drill holes using drills.
Drills and reamers are used to obtain holes of more precise dimensions. Countersinks, etc. are used for countersinking.
Most often, tools are clamped into the drill using chucks of various types and sizes, the most common is a gear chuck up to a diameter of 13 mm. Larger diameter drills are clamped directly into the drill spindle using a Morse taper. Originally, the drills were powered by hand, they were hand tools. Today's drills are usually driven by electric motors. To obtain different speeds, the drills are equipped with gearboxes and electronic speed preselection.
The simplest tools for manual drilling of holes are classic heaters. Other tools for drilling holes are also spinning wheels. There are also hand drills equipped with a drill thread, as well as mechanical hand drills driven by a crank by means of a gear transmission.
Hand-held portable electric drills powered by a single-phase electric motor are often equipped with a "hammer", which is a vibrating mechanism that facilitates the destruction of masonry when drilling into concrete and other building materials. (Source wikipedia)

For those who don’t know. Filing both directions is actually the best way to file and does not cause premature wear to the file! Jason from fireball tools on KZbin made a video that has pretty solid controls to test if it was better to file only forward only backward or both directions. Great video for anybody who’s interested!

Perfect restoration! That drill will work the next 70 years at least. I have a similar hand drill made in USSR about 50 years ago. Sometimes I use it where electricity not available.

Loved that Zbrojovka Brno hand drill. My grandpa had one in his estate for working when far from electric outlets and it ran very smoothly. Minimal maintenance and excellent materials. That's a lovely restoration. Cheers.

I knew I recognized the logo on that brass medallion! It is the current logo of Zbrojovka Brno Rifles which is owned now by Česká zbrojovka a.s. Uherský Brod makers of some of the finest firearms in the world. From the Zbrojovka Brno history page: "Also the civil production was expanded, including cars, bicycles, industrial scales, slicing machines, aircraft engines, machine tools, and special tools. Zbrojovka Brno became a model for perfectly organised companies with a modern and precise serial production; the company introduced its own original tolerance system for own production and the use of measuring instruments, due to which it became one of the pioneers of the standardisation in Czechoslovakia." Very interesting item and a fine restoration.

Great done. And the color of the rings on the handles echoes the color of the plate. Super! I can not find a reason for nit-picking. Found! I am sure that a wooden handle should rotate freely on its axis with a rotating lever. Otherwise, it is inconvenient to twist the arm. About half a century ago, I worked a lot with a similar drill. This is my nitpicking. But I admire the work and the result.
