One of my friends was a kid when MM was filming the rodeo scene in Phoenix for Bus Stop. At one place she was sitting on a bleacher and dropped her purse to the ground. My friend got under the seats and got her purse for her. She smiled, pulled out a dollar bill and autographed it for him. He still had it till his death in the 1990s. I assume someone in his family has that autographed dollar now.

Stories from people with nothing to gain giving an honest description of Marilyn, reveal a lovely young woman who had a few self-image concerns. Poignantly, none of them had a bad word to say about her, and felt protective towards her. A lot of people still do.

I love your comment bc it's very true and genuinely thought through. You said what u wanted to so nothing more to say. Except maybe.. We all love Marilyn and appreciate her for her truth and of course her work and achievements, fought hard for in a sometimes very cruel and cold life❤🌹❤🌹✨🕯🕯

@@Gigi1111Layna If I can add my 3 cents worth here. Although she was marketed, whether intentionally or not, as a sex symbol, there was nothing in her films that was too explicit; no bedroom scenes, no full nudity-unlike now. She retained a certain child like quality within her. That was changing towards the end. there was a certain mental instability there too and she became friendly with the wrong people. You can go in any corner of the world and her image is there. You cant say that of too many other actresses ...🌺

A friend from school picked me up one night to go out. When we got in the car, he turned on the radio and we heard Marilyn had died. We both sat stunned for about five minutes before we could speak. Tragic loss. Years later, I was walking fast into Maiden Lane in San Francisco and ran right into a man and we both nearly fell. He put his arms out to hold me from falling and when I looked up it was Joe DiMaggio. My first thought was Marilyn! Bless her heart. We all miss her.

@@theturtlearchives Marilyn and Joan met at a cocktail party in NYC in early 1962 when Marilyn was 35 and Joan was 28, tho in a book written about this encounter Joan claimed to be 17. I can't find the book right now or I'd pass along the authors name. The book is about Marilyn's association with many celebrities many would not associate with Marilyn. Of course NYC was Marilyn's home for 7 years, to her death. In the interview Joan describes the encounter with Marilyn and their conversation. She says Marilyn was very modern in her look, attire. She complained to Joan about men, and all they cared about were boobs. Arthur Miller happened to be at the same event. Joan was at the time appearing in some off Broadway show.

I later found that book, it's "I Met Marilyn by Neil Sean, published by CreateSpace. Joan said, 'What I remember most is how tiny she was - not the big buxom blonde we see in the media,’ said Rivers. ‘We talked about the New York theatre and I asked her advice about acting agents. She was really helpful. Then Marilyn suddenly turned to me and said: “Men, they’re all the same. They’re just stupid and they like big boobs. Like Debbie Reynolds, Rivers was convinced Marilyn was murdered. ‘Sure, she was a pill addict and had problems, but none of the story of her death stacks up. I blame the Kennedys: without a doubt, she got mixed up in some terrible trouble. ‘Given all she had going for her, why would she suddenly kill herself? She wasn’t the type to do it.’

It seems (per Doris) that MM suffered from extreme insecurity or imposter syndrome which made her self conscious. There are quite a few people like that. It isn’t as rare as people might think. Doris isn’t the first person to convey how MM gave off helpless vibes. You can see it in many pictures how sad her eyes were most of time. Any gala and show that was put on was where MM could soar because she knew no one would question her abilities when it came to that.

@Sophia W.: No, Marilyn didn't. She was always a lost soul. She had determination like no on else I have known or read about, but she had no "sense of herself". Had she had that, she never would have become a pill or alcohol addict. People who know themselves, do not become addicts. She tried, though. How she tried, and she is actually more lauded for that than for anything. Her fans, the world, people who worked with her, all saw the lost Marilyn, but wanted to see her WIN and be HAPPY. Sadly, that did not happen.

@@sophiaw.7356 I agree with you, based on everything I have read and seen concerning her, she was very aware of who she was, she was 2 people, the thing ( sort of speak) Marilyn Monroe, movie star, goddess, and Norma Jean, looking to be loved and give love . Too bad she couldn't merge them both, as the world only wanted to see Marilyn Monroe, and less Norma Jean. I have always thought she was captivating, I think had she found a real true love and had children, she possibly would have had a much longer life. I do remember a qoute she said about herself that I read in a book years ago, " Big tits, big ass, big deal". Lol, love her sense of humour, and if that quote doesn't let you know, HOW aware she was of herself, nothing does.

@@TIGGYY1 She certainly exactly knew how to play the role of famous sexy movie star:) Many times she exaggerated her role so obviously....as for example in the singing for " mister president". It was FAR too much...on purpose. The ridiculous puckering of her lips. She knew what she was doing. As if she thought: is this what you (males) want? You can get it. After all...she was not a blonde but a brunette. 😂 It is a paradox that a world famous sex symbol was not able to get children. Because in fact the biological purpose of sex is to make children. And you are right. She should have been a great mom. And should most certainly have been the most happy in that role. She was a very sweet person.
